You're welcome! I appreciate that different platforms will house different generations, but I try to include as much as I can 😆 And thank you! It absolutely rips for sure 🔥🔥🔥
My dad hitting his card on the screen for his RX8, I'm piffing money at my screen for my RX8. You're revolutionising the market for these cars that need some serious love and so does your channel!
Just stumbled across channel - finally some new content on RX 8'S - yes interested to see how this goes and how the rest of the engine responds to it....
I've been doing as many supporting mods to my RX8 in hopes of turboing it one day (studs, RX7 seals, bigger fuel pump, some temp management, ignition upgrade, etc.). Josh, if all goes well, you are a hero that we Renesis owners don't deserve! I'm actually curious why the ceramic coating didn't last, maybe because it's so low and it got exposed to a lot of the elements? Cheers from the USA, looking forward to more developments, as I too would prefer to keep the stock ECU over getting a Haltech.
gad dayum. mans doing bits. Wish i had the income to own a rotary, but at least there's a channel i can watch for it. Keep it up and strength to you, you absolute mad lad♥
This is the wholesome content we like to see! 🫶🏽🖤 And we're a little ways off with the kit at the moment, there's gonna be a bit more development over the winter and hopefully final testing in the Spring!
looks and sounds so good. That is the best looking turbo install on an RX8 I have ever seen. Like you said you can't even tell it has a turbo. One question- How will this kit work with stock apex seals?
As we all know the renesis motors aren't very reliable, is adding boost going to make it need rebuilds more often? Is it possible to upgrade the internals like you would when forging say a 2jz?
good to see you back and well, where are you going for the dyno, i could benefit from my fd being on it, literally no idea what it does/history of the engine etc.
Motorsport And Performance in Batley (Formerly Rotary Revs) is where I would go for the dyno. Otherwise, Advocult Motorsport also gets stellar feedback from UK FD guys 🫶🏽
I found out the honey comb air straightener does not work as good as a screen straightener. I use both and made it run very smooth. Also can you support versatuner? Thanks
The honeycomb has been fine for me. The important part is making sure that you have at least 30cm of straight airflow before the MAF so that the readings aren't obscured. I have never used Versatuner but I will take a look into it. 👌🏽
Amazing! Will there be an option to bring you the car, do a rebuild and fit the turbo in the same go? How do you price the rebuilds, I know it depends on a lot of factors, but let's say I don't need new housings
Good to see you again! Hope you're recovering well. RX8 is gaining much positive recognition recent years. I love the sound of your 8. Is it still on stock ECU? I'm planning on boosting my S1 next year and I'm glad you're preparing some kits for that, but then I wanted to do it myself it as much as I could apart from sending my engine for studding and cutting rotors for REW apex seals, I feel they are must have for reliable build, I wanna get ~300HP then ~350HP, for me it't perfect power that RX8 should have out of factory. I already have street port, 53mm radiator and modded ECU for better cooling etc. But just in case - will you send kits to EU? Also you mentioned to use both 9 spark plugs for lead and trail. So it's only about having 4 trailing ones and put trailing one also in place of leading? Cause they are different length and I'm wondering.
Thank you! Recovery has been going very well 🙏🏽 I am still on the stock ECU. Kits can and will be sent to the EU as of when they're in production 👌🏽 And for the most part, everything you just mentioned will definitely support 350hp. Keep ontop of the cooling and it should be fairly reliable 💫 Spark Plugs, I would get some NGK race plugs R7420-9L or R7420-10L for the leading. You want the length of the plug to be the full length, and the L plug is longer on the Renesis as you know.
@@BlackstarMotorsport Good to hear! Thanks for help! I'm waiting when my 8 will get back from body and paint job and I have there waiting 53mm koyorad radiator as previous owner installed some crappy chineese one so I had to be careful on temps in hotter days. People were telling me that 300hp is max for stock ecu, and I didn't want to change it so I was like ok 300hp first then ECU swap and 350hp, so I'm glad to hear that I don't need to swap it! Also what's your current rev limiter? I've seen after turbo'ing some of them were like to 8k some full range. Again thanks and I can't wait to see Cygnus dyno numbers
Yeah bro, REW is expensive but it pays itself off not having to do continuous rebuilds. It sucks Mazda basically doubled the price. Pretty much ruined a lot of enthusiasm. Thanks for sharing Josh
Indeed, there was a point in time where REWs were cheap enough to justify the swap. Not anymore now, which is why I'm determined to bring boost into the RX-8 platform at an affordable level. Selfishly, I want the RX-8 to be recognised as a capable car, as good as the RX-7 FD3S. Give it time though, it won't be long 🏃🏾♂️🔥
Couple things and keep in mind I only have been through half the video so far. Have you run aftermarket oil cooler thermostats, I switched to the hks ones they open up at roughly 165f my engine runs cool now and brings the water temps down, cruising at 185 in heat. You should try versatune flash software get the full version unlimited flashes and customization for tunes. This would be the most user friendly device and you don’t need anything other then a laptop and obd2 adapter to flash.
I have RX-7 thermostats currently as they do open up slightly earlier than RX-8 ones. I have not tried Versatuner but it does get some good feedback from many owners. I have the pro version of MazdaEdit which does offer unlimited flashes, etc.
Man that rx looks sexy . Do you know any rx8 breakers I would like that front end too awesome seeing the kit come to life my rx is not there yet. But definitely want a kit
Any idea on cost of an R3 front-end conversion? I've been toying with the idea of an RX-8 for about a year now and the thing that ended up putting me off was the insane tax you pay on an R3 (I far and away prefer the looks of a face-lifted car, not to mention those lovely Recaro seats...)
@@BlackstarMotorsport I've done more research into this now and I think it's actually more cost effective to just go for an R3... I'll feel like the government is stealing from me every year but it will be a second car and will only be on the road for 6 months of the year anyway. I suppose I should be thankful that fire breathing rotary cars haven't been banned entirely! If you know anyone looking to move on a clean R3 either with or without a functioning engine let me know! 😂
Genuinely curious, what do people like about the R3 front? To me its the same "corporate face" that every other Mazda had slapped on, and wasn't designed for the original car. I know it's all subjective but I'm always interested when someone likes the newer one!
Question, would your kit require that you need the FD apex seals, and if so would your proposed price include fitting them? Looking good there after blowing yourself up. Last makesure you checkout RAD potential since he's doing the rotory gods work just like you.
Up to a certain point, maybe 300-320hp, the stock apex seals would be fine. The drive-in, drive-out service is purely for fitting the kit and loading on a base tune to be able to use the car safely on a 5 or 7psi wastegate spring. Any more than that, and you would definitely need some fuelling upgrades, amongst other things 💸
