Honestly, if you're searching "What is the best os for hacking" learn a programming language before you worry about hacking.
I'll pick one for you, JavaScript. Learn JS, then worry about Hacking. Actually, learn JavaScript, then learn ReactJS. Give yourself 6 months to really learn and solidify your knowledge, then spend a couple weeks on HTML and CSS to acclimate to front-end programming. Now you're not only employable, but you're mind is trained how to think like a computer. Until then, you're just having fun running outdated scripts.

The beginner should master operating system first, then learn a programming language. If u don't know ur system then it's not possible to attack and secure other os succesfully. Sorry for bad English.

@@akira8701 Yes. every modern language is Turing Complete, meaning they can all handle any computation from the real world. So they essentially all do the same thing, but certain languages are used for different purposes for different reasons. The trick is just to pick one, learn it and learn it well. You're training your brain to think like a computer.

I still use KALI, I get what people say about it being loaded with too many tools but when I am in the field and don't have easy access to the internet it helps to already have everything I'd need instead of trying to grab them via data connection. At home though I just use lightweight Linux builds and spin them up as VMs.

I think the idea on "how to hack" is very very important. Whenever I get stuck with some practice VM and do google search how others have come up to crack the same box, I get astonished with their ideas.
But having said that, I can also feel that whichever OS gives you more and reliable options to get access to those tool that will enable you to perform penetration testing, is to be preferred more.
But as you said, the base line OS does not matter unless, you need a very specific tool that is developed into a very specific OS.
What I generally do is to "weaponize" the OS to make it access and use those tools that I would be needing; and I think you should make at least 3 part video on how to "weaponize" different mainstream OSs.
Other than that, keep up the good work.

Im moving to arch now that I know there is such a thing as black arch. Parrot is good but not a fan of the default mate desktop, the caja file browser is the buggiest thing i have used in years, I counted opening a folder on a nvme ssd sometimes will take up 10 seconds. and no not remote directories I can drop a deuce and take a shower by the time that opens up.

ParrotOS as like Kali-Linux, both of them have a Debian substructure. I think it counts down on your personal preference cosmetic "GUI" style of the OS. For the full potential of Linux only the command line counts anyway AND the command-line looks and feel on both system the same way ;)

The desktop environment is bloaty slow and unresponsive, simple things like copying files over in the gui take forever, Not the file transfers themselves but how long it takes to open a directory and list the files. Other than that every second reboot im greeted with a could not connect to host service bus black screen.

You don't need to virtualise anything from linux on the Mac. You can compile all linux apps, directly for the Mac because they are Unix/Linux based. Especially for rainbow tables and brute-force cracking it works way faster if you compile the apps directly for the Mac with Home-brew or MacPorts. It even beats bare metal Kali or Parrot

Kali is old and not hardware friendly, but for beginners I can recommend installing parrot os and starting with preinstalled tools like airgeddon, metasploit, aircrack, nmap, etc. Even if most of the tools are not going to be used, partotsec os is for everyone and every good ethical hacker should master almost all of the tools installed on it.

    Originally: Kali Linux.
But since Windows supports WSL kali, it may be ok.
Parrot or Alpine: Not bad though, it is not popular than kali.

I’m using xubuntu for my penetrating lab. I don’t like virtualization. I have xubuntu on hardware and only use my xubuntu laptop for pen testing. Just my preference I tried Kali and parrot but I don’t like gnome or kde. Blackarch was sweet! But I can’t seem to get that to download on a vm this why I don’t like virtualization. I can get it on hardware but virtual box doesn’t like blackarch on my laptop haha

ok so you just called the most bloated os of all time lightweight? Maybe fast if you have a high end gaming pc, but objectively, try to run it on my potato laptop. Exactly, you can't. But linux works fine and smooth. I'm not saying it's not a good choice, I'm just saying it's very far from what you described.

I use Manjaro with the blackarch shell script that let's me install the packages I need but not all of them. Because the reason that it doesn't matter which OS I use if it works and it works. Sure I use Parrot OS when I'm lazy to go through the boring process but it was worth the time if the Pentesting Distros got backdoored by any chance so I went with it because I can do it and I did.
