Auckland had 3 months of rain within a couple of hours.
When it comes to disasters us kiwis are really chilled about it.

But only a month later New Zealand was hit by a cyclone which destroyed the east coast of hawks bay , gisbourne area . And parts of Auckland
And don't forget, we don't do things by halves. When we have a "Disaster" we don't fuck around.
Yep we got hit in the east coast we got flooded even the house was leaking water from the roof 😂. And I was bottle digging in the rain and full tide😅😂
It's not remotely normal, but Kiwis seem to have a pretty good handle on "if you can either laugh or cry, have a giggle at it."
This flooding happened so fast that people got caught totally unprepared, like the bus on a normal journey. This is not normal, just our laid back attitude. Later, as the news showed the full extent of what had occurred, reaction set in.

It ain't normal at all but new zealanders are notorious for adapting to mostly all situations, i mean heck mostly the entirety of christchurch was destroyed by multiple giant earthquakes but each time they rebuilt & refused to give up a little bit of rain isn't anything to a New zealander or an Australian.
There's been more and more bad weather events. But kiwis are just pretty pragmatic and laid back.

I'm a kiwi who lives in Aussie and yeah it's kinda normal there for extreme weather sometimes, can have fires and floods in the country at the same time. We just had two big floods In Aussie and then it hit NZ also. Use to live in Auckland for ten years and it does rain a lot but never seen that Bad before!!!! Aussies and Kiwis are just like oh well get on with it!!!
If you have to walk on the road during a flood, stick to the middle as there's no manholes in the middle of a road. Their lids get lifted of during flooding leaving a death trap

Flooding isnt that normal for Auckland, but in some areas like Northland they have a cyclone every decade or so... so we are used to seeing it on the tv for a certain area of the country. but even if the most cray cray thing happened, like aliens landing, New Zealanders would be pretty chill. They dont like to make a fuss and generally react with humour to lighten the mood when shit goes down

We rarely have floods like this. But like when we had the earthquakes here in Christchurch we all travel to help each other out and donate what we can. And it could always be worse.

West Auckland got hit HARD bro! We had a flow blockage and had 9ft of water! Scary
That was summer not winter and January & February are the hottest times of the year when we get little rain. This year we got three months worth of rain in less than a DAY! It's actually the worst summer in NZ history. I usually try to get to the beach every high tide, last summer I hit the beach ONCE!

It was the deadliest floods to happen in Auckland modern history! 5 people killed, $2 billion dollars in damage, 30 out of 300 suburbs we're severely impacted, thousands of animals washed away with houses!! It definitely was a scary week for the people of Auckland & not even a week later Cyclone Gabrielle decided to come through & decimate the East Coast of the North Island 🥺🤦🏾♀️
New zealanders move at a different pace. Nothing can be done so may aswell do what you can with the situation

U Americans seem to be a little dramatic even when u live in hurricane alley ect, u got to expect it. We here in Nz prepare for earthquakes and tsunamis so this was totally unexpected. Interesting times we living in.❤

Not normal and people didn’t choose to shop or take a bus or drive their cars in the floods. It was a heavy downpour, things got blocked and it happens whilst people were shopping in the dry etc.
