@@karlbobthepirate5704 It was really only the deporting of crims that were born in NZ but lived their whole lives in Aus that we had an issue with, it kind of felt like you were exporting your problems to us and now we have major problems with Australian gangs in NZ, however now you have a new government maybe they will re think that policy, other than that I don't think their are any issues apart from friendly sporting rivalry.

Our immigration laws are such that if you are not a citizen and you commit certain crimes, the immigration department has the law and right to deport you.
And that's as it should be, and is, in many countries.
If you want to be a criminal in Australia, become a citizen and our prisons will welcome you with open arms and small cells.
I went New Zealand just before Covid lock down. Living in NZ is like living in a post card, it is like someone paints you a new picture perfect post card every day and you get to live in it. Hills, rolling clouds, green, clean, crystal clear blue rivers and beaches...just unbelievable. Everyone relaxed and smiling. Love it. Will go back 100%.

I moved from New Zealand to Norway about 20 years ago. I can't explain how badly I miss New Zealand.
NZ has its issues and I moan all the time about it. Inflation, fuel cost, housing and politics. But this is a good reminder of how lucky we are to live here.
Inflation and fuel costs are an international concern . The housing shortage was a deliberate ploy by the few to ramp up prices and Kiwis returning home post pandemic has seen the already artificially high prices pushed into the stratosphere ... I lived OS for thirty years and just love being back .
All of those are problems but also gangs and stuff

those issues about fuel cost, inflation, and housing are all concerns for MANY other places and politics is very subjective. I think the government, although not perfect, is a whole lot better than somewhere like the US who has someone who is nearly 80 leading the worlds largest economy. I think New Zealand, because of its lack of population and small size along with the lack of corruption makes nz a lot better than you think. (sorry for the rant)
It was a holiday to New Zealand as a teenager where I discovered my love for mountains and now I love to climb and hike on mountains wherever I go. I also lived in New Zealand in my 20s for 2 years in a few different places, Ashburton, New Brighton Christchurch, Upper Hutt, Paraparaumu and Hawera. Everywhere is so beautiful and I had a great time living there meeting many wonderful people. Ive gone back on multiple holidays and ill definitely be taking my kids there when they are a bit older. As an Aussie I am glad we have a great neighbour to visit.

Having moved from the UK to NZ 12 years ago I have my own perspective.
The environment is spectacular and so diverse, the country is setting its standards high in trying to keep out new pests, control and reduce the existing pests and retain the remaining native wildlife. NZ also ranks high amongst countries for use of renewable sources of electricity production, over 80%.
The weather is generally better than the UK but NZ has been experiencing significant flood events in recent years, also the effects of a cyclone tend to reach most years. But where in the world is not experiencing more extreme weather events?
While the population is relatively small it is growing at over 2% per year, and infrastructure is struggling to keep up with this level of growth.
Food prices may seem quite high, but I have priced checked a few thing again the UK, beef is about the same, lamb is more expensive, fish is definitely cheaper in NZ. Fruit and vegetables definitely need to be eaten when in season, they can get expensive if they are imported. Dairy is probably too expensive considering how much is produced, but this is the problem with producing to sell overseas. Also I suspect that the subsidies for producers in UK and Europe are significantly higher.
NZ may be isolated but Australia and the Pacific Islands make great holiday destinations, with under normal conditions, plenty of flights.
I would disagree with one of the previous comments, NZ been ranked 2nd behind Denmark by Nationsonline.org for corruption perception and 3rd for least corrupt country by Tradingecinomics.com again behind Denmark and Finland.
NZ has lots of activities that are free and places where parking is free (outside of city centres), but sometimes what is available locally can be limited and you find you need to travel further to get new experiences, if you do need to stay overnight accommodation can be expensive and often the quality of accommodation is questionable.
I love that term Social Purpose, covering so many areas, NZ has not always been so inclusive but is making strides to make ammends for its historic failures. Some people don't like that historic wrongs are being corrected and don't see the need for a level playing field.
A recent photo competition ranked photos of the Milky Way, three images were taken by Kiwis in NZ.
While housing can be quite expensive in the main centres, the minimum wage is high compared to other countries, wages are pretty good and job security is significantly better than the last 10 years I experienced in the UK.
I do feel lucky to be living here, and I would suggest to anyone who doesn't like NZ to try living elsewhere and then tell me its not a great country.

@@jefforymitchell5697 I don't spend a lot of time in Auckland, but while there is more crime in our largest city than elsewhere, overall the levels of crime are low compared to other countries, and certainly here in Christchurch it seems pretty safe, obviously there are some areas I would take care in, but nowhere I wouldn't walk down the street. I'm not sure I could say the same for cities in the UK, and in the US I've driven through neighbourhoods where I've locked the doors and hoped the lights don't go red.
Lived in Auckland for 13 years, loved it but came back to Australia for family.
I’m Australian and know many New Zealander. Absolutely beautiful people. Quiet polite and absolutely the best people in the world. I was lucky enough to go and do 2 weeks in an RV around the South Island. New Zealanders and Australians always have a healthy snipe about each other. My experience there was absolutely beautiful. The people always had a healthy funny dig at us as Australians. The scenery as quoted by my Hungarian mate who visited there ( shits on any of Europe). Thoroughly recommend it to everyone.
Well yeah, we gotta take the piss out of anyone from the West Island. We'll share a beer while we do, though.

Yes for a good part we are nice but like anywhere it aint perfect, south islanders are nice for sure, but if your white... for example if your not, they are very cut off and from my experince think you will steal if your maori 😂 dont go north too much either tho, the general population of gangs and general assholes are up north, central amd coastal 😂 all urban north island is questionable, it can get suuuper rough really quick from one street being fine to entering a shit hole thats been trashed and has gang pad after gang pad, stolen cars stripped on the street, its not the perfect happy place people make it out to be it has alot of issues, especially in terms of how expensive it is to live here, rent is suuuper high, food is expensive, gas is ridiculous, theres no good laws allowing proper defense of yourself or family and home, theres a huge suicide problem one of the highest rates in the world especially for children and young men, domestic violence is super high too, ots really sad, alot pf people here live in a victim lifestyle and live off of government support bemefets etc and it means alot of work spaces struggle to get hard working kiwis in to work, so many kiwis are lazy and ungrateful and again love in a fanyasy world of them being a victim evsn tho they live in one of the in reality the best countries in the world, its a pretty safe place to be, it also has some of the most beautiful things in the world especially the maori sites and land and heritage its what makes this country awesome not just the land its the fact we have maori heritage, no where else in the world has that, even tho alot of maori people are right cunts even to each other 😂, so much of it is the coolest shit on earth, highly recommend it despite itd many many flaws its still great 🔥

As an Australian who has travelled extensively and seen a lot of the world, I can confirm that the South Island of New Zealand is the absolute best place I've ever been to. We try and visit every year so I have been there many, many times and I never get tired of the place. It is fabulous in every way.

I think you need to get out in Australia more then, Australia has some pretty stunning scenery as well, New Zealand has spectacular scenery but Australia gigantic with some if the most unique landscapes on earth, ringing from tropical paradises, deserts rain forests, their own unique Alps and Tasmania....etc
There is countless places that look like NZ, you can't say that about alot Australia.
Maybe go and see the Kimberky and Pilbara, the Daintree meeting the reef and follow the coast to the TOrres Strait for starters.
My wife and I visited the south island in 2003. Hired a Mini Cooper S and drove all around in 19 days. Bloody Marvellous - every minute of it. Scenery, food, wines, roads and safety. All good!
I am a Kiwi and have lived and travelled overseas for many years and the video and your reaction are on point. Road Trips are the way to see NZ as it is the people that make it great. Kiwis love and need to travel to appreciate why NZ is so good. The people that say it is all bad simply haven't lived in other societies, & cultures to understand what is good and appreciate it.
We all have much to improve and by knowing what is good and what needs improving we can achieve that. That is why NZ is a progressive country.
If I had to leave Australia permanently I'd choose NZ easy everytime. I've been twice and loved it, plus less of a culture shock for us and them to switch as we have many similarities. The only differences are easily adapted to.

As someone that emigrated to NZ 14 years ago, it's almost eye opening to see other people that haven't been exposed to it react to its beauty. When you live in such a pristine place every day, you get used to it. I've been to Fiordland, Deep Cove(look it up, it's one of New Zealand's hidden gems that the rest of the world haven't discovered yet), Golden Bay, Stewart Island and Mount Cook, and it's no longer a case of "wow, I've been there and all of this is on my doorstep", rather "Oh, we're going up to McKenzie Country again? cool." It's just something you have to pinch yourself now and again because you forget how lucky you are. Perhaps only visiting NZ would be better as it's almost too beautiful to get used to.

Been to NZ a couple of times for work (I'm from Melbourne)... mostly in Auckland, but did drive down to Tauranga for a few days. Plan to return with my family and spend a few weeks travelling around. The natural beauty is absoluty amazing, people are frinedly, plus they have some of the best meat pies I ever had.
The South Island is the most beautiful in my opinion and it makes a great road trip. A must is the Tranzalpine train from Christchurch to greymouth and then pick up a car and drive the west coast to Mt cook, tekapo etc . The scenery is spectacular down that way, always love going there, we’ve built near Cromwell and plan to move there.
That was the only thing I was dissapointed about when visiting Australia, the mince pies were always dry and not very good, like there was no love gone into making them. Mince pies from Tauranga and Hamilton are some of the best pies in the world in my opinion. If you are up for it, next time you are over here, hunt down a "Kiwi Breakfast" pie and preceed to be blown away.

I picked up 4 Jazz muso's from the US in my cab in Auckland one night and the first thing they said take us to the nearest dairy shop we gotta get a meat pie before we go to our motel. I told them to find a local Home cookery shop to get a freshly made pie for an even better pie experience. Kiwi's do love their mince meat pies.
I feel so lucky to live in kiwiland, such an awesome place to be. So much to do, so many opportunities, so much to see. It really is the best place to be
As a Kiwi I personally think that NZ is a great place to live, and having travelled widely and lived a few years in Aussie I am very happy to be settled here. However, I agree that one size does not suit all and that individuals have individual likes and aspirations and good luck to all, no matter your choice.
I did a holiday in Christchurch and down to Queenstown 22 years ago and it's beautiful spectacular and the kiwis should be very proud of themselves that they know what a rubbish bin is because when i was there i couldn't believe how clean the streets where , south island is spectacular and can't wait to do it on a Harley Davidson road trip next time.

NZ had good education campaigns like “Be a tidy Kiwi” and “Keep New Zealand Beautiful” and “Leave only footprints”. Culturally, there is a stigma to littering and it’s normal to pick up random rubbish.
As a kid, I remember seeing on TV and photographs how dirty and littered some places were around the world which gave a real contrast.

My partner went to a kayaking school on the south island.. went to Hamner Springs which is gorgeous, and all down the East Coast to Queenstown.. would go back in a heartbeat

Hey Ian, I have a plan for you to consider:
1. apply for a First Work and Holiday visa (subclass 462), this gives you 12 months in Australia and can be applied for 3 times, do a tour of the east coast of Oz
2. Goto NZ for 3 months on a tourist visa and tour the North Island
3. apply for a 2nd Work and Holiday visa (subclass 462), this gives you another 12 months in Australia, do a tour of the South Australia, the Red Centre and southern WA
4. Goto NZ for 3 months on a tourist visa and tour the South Island
5. apply for a 3rd Work and Holiday visa (subclass 462), this gives you another 12 months in Australia, do a tour of the northern WA and NT, and then anything else you might have missed, like the deserts of western QLD
It would be a huge adventure, the 462, lets you work in Oz so you could continue posting videos and earning money from this channel without breaching your visa conditions. Plan it right and you'd get to do three Bathurst's and a few rally stages in both countries. By the end you'll have well and truly explored both countries well (and may not want to leave, you've been warned 🤣)

We are Aussies that moved to South NZ for 8 years for my husbands work. Landed in January about 5 weeks before the Feb 2011 Earthquake (of course we flew out of Brisbane the day before it flooded). We did 4 years in Christchurch and 4 years living in Canvastown (roughly halfway between Nelson and Blenheim). As Queenslanders we struggled with the cold but let's face it that is what helps make it one of the most beautiful countries on earth! The people are beautiful and friendly with a wicked sense of humor, their ingenuity is something else and above all else the mateship that exists, especially with the earthquakes both in Christchurch and Kaikoura, is just awesome! Australia will always be my favourite but NZ comes in a very close second!

I lived in Canvas town too for 1 year, up Wakamarina road a bit past the motor camp.

The 'deserted beach' thing is definitely true. My wife and I have a standing joke for when we're strolling down a beach and see some other person and a dog off in the middle distance: "Bloody Piccadilly Circus!"
Can vouch for NZ being a great place for road trips. Amazing scenery and well maintained well cambered roads make everything just float by your car window

I am from New Zealand mate and can absolutely vouch for all of that. I live out in the countryside and the views are breathtaking. I work as an agricultural contractor so I get to travel all around my area and beyond and go to places that the general public will most likely never see. Some of the views out the back of certain farms are absolutely stunning. It is a pity that no one really ever gets to see them so I am very privileged. I highly recommend visiting some day, there is soo much to see and do and you'll never forget the natural beauty.
Im curious which area your're in. I lived out in Ashburton and did some work on the farms. I loved it out near Lake Coleridge.

I'm in Australia but often l buy New Zealand frozen peas and corn and also different shelf products that are made in NZ they always taste really good...

I’m an American expat who has lived just outside of Queenstown for the past three years and I can confirm that it’s the best decision I’ve ever made in my 29 years.
As a suburb of Brisbane, I think New Zealand should only be a 'zone 7' bus fare from the city centre.

I have lived in New Zealand for 15years .I wake up every day happy for the beautiful vast country I live in and share with some really super human awesome people 😍 the lifestyle you want can always be made in some part of NZ .
Oh and there is no animals or insects here that hurt humans 🤩 most are friendly Like the beautiful alpine parrots
. NZ really puts so much heart into maintaining the neutral life here along with having a developed city growing fast and working hard

Hi there I am a Moari woman from New Zealand. I love my country however housing and real estate is hideously expensive. But that's about to change. We have farmers markets and Asian food markets were food is cheap. Or grow your own. Supermarkets are expensive. New Zealand is the first country in the world to see the sun which makes us a day ahead of the rest of the world. Love this video and your work.

As a New Zealander who has only ever lived on an island I find it hard to imagine living somewhere landlocked. I visited Minnesota once and honestly the idea I was so far from the sea freaked me out a bit!
I had a great time in NZ , definitely going back again to explore the South Island .
I absolutely love living here but I was born here so I am biased but I love chill the general vibe is here and I can still get out and explore nature without much of a drive. Not everyone thinks like that but personally the escape from work into nature almost feels healing.
If you see foliage change colour in New Zealand, you're most likely looking at an imported tree. Native trees in New Zealand for the most part don't change colour or lose their leaves. Surprised there was nothing about Waitomo Caves on this. You should check out a video about that.

I'm an Aussie, and have only been once to New Zealand's south island, but man was it stunning and that was just in winter, I'd only imagine what it would look like in warmer months.
I have visited New Zealand many times to see family who emigrated there and it's always sad to have to leave such a wonderful place.
Kiwi born, I'm now in my late 50's - wouldn't want to live anywhere else in the world.

It’s considered a little bit of Europe by Aussies. Being 2 hours away by plane it looks like Europe but it isn’t. There is just so much to see in such a small place. I’ve been trying to get there since 2019. I had a cruise booked then covid happened. Then life happened and now I have another cruise booked for 2023. The one thing they really didn’t touch on a lot was the changeable weather. The weather is very much like Melbourne you get 4 seasons in one day and that water isn’t the Pacific Ocean anymore it’s the Antarctic Ocean. Very cold at times. But it’s such a geographically beautiful place it’s the number 1 tourist destination for Aussies . Though sometimes it seems there are more kiwis living in Australia than living in NZ - this is not a bad thing at all but when it comes to work there are more possibilities in Australia than NZ it seems.
Um, the Southern Ocean is south of NZ, so yes we are in the Pacific Ocean albeit the bottom. As you know, the Tasman Sea is between NZ and Australia.
I have been living in NZ for 22 years. When I got here it was thousands of miles away from America both geographically and in the lifestyle. The cafe culture is next level. The food culture is next level. The sports culture is next level. Nearly 30 per cent of NZ is protected land. In NZ you are never far from a beach or a reserve. Don't forget the Lord Of The Rings trilogy was made here(I auditioned to be an Ork or Hobbit but failed) and Hobbiton is still up and going.
40 percent is farmland and 40 prevent of their Forrest is gone, alot of the country looks like the Uk, just farmland everywhere. They have the most polluted waterways in the developed world due to intense dairy farming, stop believing the Pure NZ BS!
They forgot to mention that New Zealand is also a state of Australia !!!! Haha. Seriously though, I love New Zealand. They're our cousins. Love from Oz

Lake Taupo is beautiful in the winter. I suggest the south in the Spring. FYI, lake Taupo is the mouth of my supervolcano. Also, there is nothing that will kill you in the bush there unlike Australia. Everything here in the bush seems to. Even dropbears
I did a cruise around New Zealand (from Sydney) it was great because I didn't have to worry about food costs as it was all included. I'm planning on doing another one in February 2024.

I lived in Sydney for 30 years before coming back to New Zealand in 2005 . I am living in Dunedin in the South of the South Island, the first winter back was brutal but I have acclimatised and remembered ' the layers ' of clothing required . I bought my house before the current lunacy began , it's ' value ' has tripled in the 15 years I have owned it . I live up on the side of Mt Cargill right on the city edge and the views are spectacular . The countryside to the West , and the city and it's harbour , all the way out to the Pacific Ocean to the East . Dunedin is a University town and Aotearoa's best kept secret . I love being home .
Glad you are appreciating our beautiful little country :) The pretty beach with the arch you saw is Cathedral Cove, which is a popular tourist destination in the Coromandel Peninsula, although nowadays it is probably a little too crowded for many Kiwis as we generally prefer having more space to ourselves on beaches. My personal favourite beach is New Chums which is harder to get to and therefore generally less crowded. As a side note, the video also failed to mention our geothermal activity, which means there are tonnes of beautiful natural hot springs all over the country. Good times if you want somewhere to relax mid road trip!
Once upon a time (here we go) Cathedral Cove had a narrow, steep goat track as the only land access to it. I went to it by boat from Hahei and it was all but deserted - at the beginning of January. Then more people found out about it and wanted to get there, and they improved the access and now, yeah - hard to find a spot to lay out your towel. The sad story about a lot of our best spots. The attraction is the lack of people & lack of tourist infrastructure but because of that more people go there, and they build more infrastructure.
@@_JustinCider_ yeah definitely! That's why I think the fight to preserve New Chums beach is so important! Its perfect the way it is and I would really hate to see it developed.
Also man I don't know what Cathedral cove is like now, but pre pandemic was completely insane! I was employed to remove gorse along the fancy new track and I swear I saw 100s of people walk past me in the space of an hr-and it was only like 8am!

Hello there my fellow from the USA! Christchurch NZ is my home, born here. But I'm pretty well traveled(I'm 43, so covid didn't exist back In The Day lol), so I can say after being in Aotearoa, you'll end your journey here and call it paradise. Climate, natural beauty, cars(JDM heaven here my friend),people,Healthcare. Even the cops are legit cool. As a parent too, best place in the world. Love I've traveled, but yeah nah wouldn't trade for anywhere else😄
No matter where one is here, you're never more than a couple of hours from the coast. And that couple of hours travel will be the best hours you've ever traveled. It won't be a chore, far from! And aside from the beautiful scenery, and how awesome kiwis are(dude, we love tourists) you'll see cars you only dreamed of...exotics included.

I love living in New Zealand , it can be a little expensive but i am used to it and i always feel safe here , the people are very friendly , I have lived here my whole life and always love coming home after being overseas on holidays And every morning on a fine day i have Mt Taranaki and Mt Ruapehu to look at and they never get old to look at
It's expensive , but funnily you still have more money to spend as you have less bills.
Also, if you've watched the lastest Mission impossible you would have seen the South island in the helicopter chase.
Kiwi here. While we definitely have some issues, I think we're pretty darn lucky. We're not getting invaded by the neighbours (the Aussies have popped over and helped out with things like the 2011 Canterbury quakes whilst we send our fire crews to help out at times when more of Australia is on fire than usual), we have police that aren't routinely armed, we don't have snakes apart from the odd sea snake, and don't have the extremes of weather many others do. Getting a feed of fish and chips and eating them on the beachfront on a summer evening is a pretty popular thing to do along with a summer roadie.
I was born and raised in New Zealand and can't imagine living anywhere else.

I'm a born and bred Kiwi and I have lived overseas in the USA, UK, and Asia over the years and I still love my country I have traveled from the top of the North Island to the bottom of the South Island, and to be honest even though I'm a bit biased however Aotearoa (Land of the Long white cloud) Maori translation is still the best country to live yes we do have a few negative things, however, the pros always outweigh the Negative ones. love the Vid maybe one day you will visit us.
Another Kiwi here. I was overseas for a few years before COVID, working for two years for a startup in Silicon Valley, and for almost four years before that in Moscow. Now that's a real city! Something like 12m people, tons of interesting places, pretty easy to walk or bicycle (in summer) everywhere, and taxis and the metro are super cheap if you can't be arsed walking back. Pity about the government. I came back to NZ in late March 2020 and rented a place on the beach in the far north. Once the initial wave was knocked back (by mid-May 2020) we had 18 months of living like in the before-times, until delta and then omicron arrived. I know life would have been much harder in San Francisco or Moscow in this time! About deserted beaches: this really is a great thing about here. If you go to a beach mid-week then it will almost certainly have almost no-one, and even weekends are quiet except at times such as New Year.
Great video, I think I need to appreciate the place I call home. Since I was born here I guess it is normal to me, but seeing how amazed people are at our country has surprised me a bit. Haha.

Love home, somethings are much better there other things not, roadtrips being one. The roads are far better and more exciting then Australia, especially if you're in a well set-up car, not just the views but coastal roads or mountain passes are about the most fun you can have with your pants still on.
Hi, I'm currently living in Dunedin, South Island and decided to take a few photos of the local beaches to send to my daughter in Germany. I ended up finding about 35 beaches within 30 minutes of the city centre. It's a nice place.

Hi I am a Kiwi that has never wanted to go overseas because we have it all here! Although not all of us are aware of what we have compared to other countries, I think being isolated can be a big part of that. Our issues manly have to do with the cost of living which then ca lead to community issues, that been said our communities are very supportive! Thanx for the great vid.

Hello Again I'm born and raised in new Zealand fun fact My hometown Gisborne is actually the very first city in the world to see the sunrise.
Alot of this video was of the south island I can tell just from the landscape it's very different to the north island where I live.
I actually happily have a offgrid camp very very close to 90 mile Beach.
It's definitely very expensive here in every way possible lol. But it's also very very scenic and road trips are a must here.
It is very friendly but it's not as friendly as it use to be alot of people have lost the kiwi way of been kind to strangers and helping people out.
Especially since covid and Especially in small towns here I've been in my area for a year living isolated and I still feel unwelcome sometimes.
Where as 20 years ago you'd off been instantly welcomed.
Also there's alot of unrest with some maori and non Maori Especially towards our government.
Also you arnt allowed on every beach unless your part of a certain iwi/tribe you'll get harassed for a fee to enter etc.
So just be careful which places you travel to cause some locals arnt that friendly.
But overall I think we're super lucky to live here we have an amazing climate, room to breathe, no outside haters, you can catch rain water for free you go fishing and hiking or just surf.
And you can go hiking without worrying about snakes or bears or anything dangerous that'll attack you as we have no larger predators.
Crimes alot worse now then it was due to just the struggles of living costs etc.
But like you said every country has its problems.

I don't particularly mind, the one here in Gisborne (John Griffin) does some great work ecologically and I believe James Cameron is into similar stuff in the Wairarapa.

I live in New Zealand. It’s absolutely beautiful. The challenge is being far away, it is expensive to travel, although I still have places to visit here. The cost of living is expensive and housing is expensive and mostly not in the greatest condition where I live, especially the houses I potentially could afford. But it is beautiful, the people (mostly) rock, and yeah it’s just pretty chill. I like that. I also like big cities especially Tokyo just because it is just so massive! But it’s nice not to have that living on top of one another here. There is greenery and space. I agree with the solo beach missions. They are magical, especially in winter!
The best part of being a kiwi is I can go surfing in the morning and by lunch time be skiing , then deep sea fishing in time for dinner and a swim in the sunset and be lucky if I see 100 people all day , yes things can be pricey but for what we have , worth every penny mate . You should come visit Ian .

So true, my bother Inlaw posted a photo awhile ago. He had been out diving for crayfish in the morning, drove down to Ruapehu midday. Skied and ate the cray as he watched the sunset from the ski chalet that evening.
I was working in Melbourne Aus at the time, he reminded me of what I was missing out on.
Lived in Queenstown 1986. Fell in love with the town and surrounds. So so beautiful throughout the year. Was expensive though and had 2 jobs to pay the rent. Always in my heart. It's the only place I ever hitch-hiked (from town up to ski resort of Coronet Peak). Figured it was safe as always had my skis!
I would hitchhike in NZ if I was a bit younger or if there were still lots of places where cars could pull over safely.
Stuff is more expensive but I always felt like I had plenty of money in my pocket and actually left NZ with money
Im from Wellington and I spent my recent birthday in Queenstown and even for me as a kiwi it was the most amazing experience of my life, so you need to get over to NZ and experience it as an American.
Every opportunity I have I will say how good New Zealand is, and I have only seen the cold half. Beautiful country, beautiful people.
We Aussies are lucky to have New Zealand as our neighbour.

Yes cost of living is a big issue and our rent price is very high. We pay weekly what most Americans pay monthly. I live in Taranaki which is the lump on the left side of the North Island with the mountain that looks like Mount Fuji, which is why the last samurai was filmed here. It's only a half hour drive from the ski field to the beach. Depending on traffic conditions.
It really is just pristine beauty isn't it. When he said about the places that could survive , Tasmania and Iceland were mentioned as well as NZ. 💖💖. I must go there oneday 🤗

We are a small country packed away with tourist and over 5 Million people living here in over time we appreciate the cleaniess and have to greet people from other countries the cities are outrageous gorgeous in every way .
Most people would damn right be envy just to look at our peace haven country.

NZ deserves better neighbours than us, that's all I'll say. That and I have aspirations to climb Mount Cook one day.

Well they don't call it the Shaky Isles for nothing, a disastrous Quake about 11 years ago destroyed much of the city of Christchurch, however I have read that restoration is still going on. If you ever get to Queenstown, a trip on thast beautiful lake on the steamer Earnslaw is a must, a steamer taken in knocked down form to Queenstown, assembled and still [last time I was there] running silently like clockwork. They also have a magnificent Air displauy, "Warplanes at Wanaka", I have only seen parts of it on youtube. Might get over the ditch one day and get to see it.
Can't be that great. 5million Kiwis on Earth and nearly 600,000 of them work as steel fixers in Australia.

The Australian constitution does allow for NZ to become another state of Australia. But NZ categorically insists that that will never happen.
No, we do not want that to happen!. Keep our country ours thank you very much, we prefer to forge our own way in the world and with our own destiny. There’s a reason NZ is not part of the Aussie continent but our own of Zealandia. Even nature prefers it this way. BTW, no slight on our neighbour but we just don’t want to be swallowed up and dictated to by the big neighbour which would inevitably happen if that was the case. Britain realised this when it eventually removed itself from the EU and now wishes to remain its own sovereign nation, same as we do.

The birds in NZ are something else! They are not as afraid of humans as elsewhere and the little ones are rounder than Aussie birds. We made a snow stop and there was a kia in a tree. As soon as people started to photograph it, it flew down and strutted in front of the cameras stopping occasionally like it was actually posing.

Australia is fantastic (live there) but everywhere is so far apart, Tasmania I call little NZ far more accessible and things are easy to get to but on 2 trips to NZ my saying was that's that's a waterfall, turn the next corner and that's a good waterfall, next corner, that's a better waterfall etc. The more you go the more epic it is, Beyond Stunning.
I used to live just outside of Linton and at night I could look up at the stars and perfectly see the milky way. Its like something from a movie or HD picture of our galaxy
I moved to New Zealand really young. I love it here. Oh, sorry, my mother says that because my dad is from the UK and she was born in New Zealand and I was born in Waikato hospital I didn't "move" here. I am going have a longer discussion about biology with here and what seaman is and what that means but I stand by the truth that HALF of my genetics moved to NZ!
I live on the VERY isolated West Coast of the South Island (population ratio: ONE per square kilometer!) and pretty much in the middle of our biggest national park and I feel blessed DAILY for the place that I live. Yes, it's expensive (here, probably even more than the big cities on account of virtually everything having to be freighted in) but balance that against the freedom, and space, to grow our own food and the spectacular scenery we live in, and who would want to live anywhere else? We even, until only very, very recently, remained totally COVID-free.
There are definitely places in the world still on my bucket list to visit but I know for a fact that I'll always come home. ❤
