    The WRC is the FIA World Rally Championship, a tough motorsport using rally cars on real roads around the world. Watch the best rally drivers battle on gravel and asphalt roads with mud, rain, dust, ice and heat! Watch high speed action as the rally drivers power slide and drift round narrow corners, go flat out over a big jump or through a watersplash, handbrake turn round a hairpin, survive a big moment, or have a massive crash! Rally requires maximum attack and careful tactics to become world rally champion.
    Each rally has timed sections called special stages, on closed roads. Drivers complete these stages as quickly as possible. A co-driver reads pace notes that explain the hazards ahead. Rally drivers use the same rally car to travel to each stage on public roads, following normal traffic regulations. The crew which completes all the stages in the shortest time is the rally winner. Championship points are won using the same scoring system as Formula 1. The championship is administered by Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA), motorsport's world governing body.
    Some of the world's greatest drivers have won the FIA World Rally Championship for Drivers, like Colin McRae, Carlos Sainz, Walter Röhrl, Stig Blomqvist, Petter Solberg, Ott Tänak. The list of world rally champions includes many Finnish rally drivers like Juha Kankkunen, Tommi Mäkinen, Ari Vatanen, Marcus Grönholm, Hannu Mikkola. French drivers have had success with Sébastien Ogier, and 9 times world champion Sébastien Loeb. Famous drivers from other motorsports have come to try rally driving like Ken Block from Rallycross, and Robert Kubica and Kimi Räikkönen from F1.
    Car companies compete for the prestigious FIA World Rally Championship for Manufacturers awarded to the most successful WRC constructor. Winners include Citroen, Hyundai, Volkswagen and Peugeot. Ford have had success with the Ford Escort, Ford Focus and Ford Fiesta when the M-Sport team won in 2017.
    The 1980's featured the iconic Group B rally cars like the Lancia 037 and Delta S4, Peugeot 205 T16, MG Metro 6R4, Ford RS200 and Audi Quattro.
    Japan dominated the 1990s with the Mitsubishi Lancer, Subaru Impreza, and Toyota Celica and Toyota Corolla. Toyota returned to the WRC in 2017 with the Toyota Yaris WRC, winning in 2018. Hyundai won in 2019 and 2020 with the Hyundai i20 Coupe WRC. Find out about the latest winners and champions at www.wrc.com

    The WRC started well, then lost its way.
    I grew up with the WRC right when cars became interesting to me. The fact I could go down to Subaru/mitsubishi and stare through the show room window as a 17 year old was incredible.
    Then the cars got more complex and started having stupid wide arches. You couldn't buy the cars anymore, save for a pathetic Loeb edition Citroën. I could no longer live a fantasy of watching the WRC then hopping in the car on an early Sunday morning.
    What makes rallying so popular is that you can relate to it. Its normal cars you could buy racing on roads you knew rather than the rather remote F1 circuit experience.
    You only have to look at the popularity of the GR yaris (in England at least) to see that people still love rallying. They just don't love the WRC.

    • @Daniel-cp2ps
      @Daniel-cp2ps 2 ปีที่แล้ว +19

      I'd also add that this video is rather poor. I was expecting to see something about the WRC era I grew up with. The WRC impreza from 1997, the dominant Evo, the Pug 206 which blew away everything and then Loeb with the blistering Citroën.
      Instead we got more talking then we did car footage.

      What you say is exactly what WRC does NOT stand for!
      World Rally Car regulations were introduced to allow manufacturers to field rally cars with turbochargers and all wheel drive even if the homologated street car lacked those features.

    • @johnjames01
      @johnjames01 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The C4 by Loeb might have been pathetic performance-wise but at that time, it was the only way to have a car that represented the WRC for a lot of people. You couldn't have a decent looking Impreza or Lancer that could be run at a reasonable cost. In Ireland for example, road tax meant that the likes of performance cars were out of touch for anyone with a family or trying to save for a home. So the C4 by Loeb I had for 5 years was something different that didn't cost an arm and a leg to buy and run. Add to that, it was surprisingly reliable after 100k kms.

    I much preferred GROUP A because essentially YOU COULD BUY THOSE CARS.
    I love how Mitsubishi, Subaru and Escort kept using street-cars when WRC began. Citroens, Peugeots, Volkswagens, Fiestas and Hyundais, by contrast, had NOTHING TO DO WITH STREET CARS. At least Fiestas and i20's drive well, all Citroens (Xsara, C4, DS3) drive live nanny's carriages.

Then came the 90s and the era of Subaru I mitsubiszi and Lanczji delta integrale and Toyota Celica and Corolla and then began Regulations additional requirements Absurd regulations and systematic Killing of WRC began and after 2007 WRC began to roll down and in 2022 The year will be the same castration as in the F-1 Cyli Hybrydy and probably in 4 or 6 years the electrics will come in and it will be a total end .....

But the roar of these machines, especially the Audi Quattro, was phenomenal and the whole Pleiad of Legendary drivers and certain Lady who did not pretend to be Big Stars, but had great skills to tame these Beasts ..... For me, the last good WRC car was the Peugeot 206, even the next Subaru Evolutions were miserable ....
