For me it's not about the cost, it's their handling for their TOS and other legal stuff (I'm not a lawyer btw). Even if this is 'cheaper' than some 5% fee like Unreal, it's the lack of protection to developers for changes like this. If you don't have an option to opt out/opt in to new business models, to me, that's not ok. Regardlress if someone is 'succesful' or not. Just, not ok. Edit: I do think the CEO is gross, the people at Unity have done a great job making it better for devs, but management is gross. Especially the guy selling off stock right before making this decision. Disgusting.
It's not concerning at all. It's sales AND downloads. Both have to be satisfied before they charge per install. If you made $200,000 in the last 12 months, AND have 200,000 installs, you can afford the fee.
