Dude! Thanks for the video. I completely agree with you about desgin flaw, and i would have never figured it out unless I saw this video. It's a lot of money for a product like this to have these issues.

Thanks for sharing this video about troubleshooting the GMG. I also noted the same problem on mine but never addressed it because it worked for 18 months until today. Like you said, they ain't cheap and it is disappointing they manufactured it so loosey goosey.

THANKS !!........Mine was fully assembled at the dealer......When I got it home and tried it the next weekend, mine wouldn't power up....Found your video, and checked my grill....the socket on Mine was ok BUT, the wire on the center pin wasn't even connected...I connected it and my grill now works fine......THANKS FOR A GREAT INFORMATIVE VIDEO !!!!

Thank you for the video.... I never had a short, but the socket has been extremely loose and I was constantly worried something or other in there would break. Seeing this video gave me the confidence to just get under there and figure out what was happening. I wasn't able to simply pull the wire out like you did in the video (must be very tight) but I didn't need to really... with some patience I was able to loosen and re-tighten the socket enough that it is way, way more stable than it used to be!

Man, thank you! I thought my new grill was already broken till I saw this video.

I have an older DB and consistently had problems with the 23 ft male-to-male cord. Come to find out that there are fuses in both male ends and one of the ends was messed up from the factory. So if you can find out the size of these fuses (GMG keeps it a secret), keep some spares on hand cause one will blow (or break when you drop the cord) when you need your grill the most!

Did the light on the cord box go out? Mine just did and it's not getting any power

I am having a problem understanding how a ground to ground contact could cause a spark. The hot wire in the center is not going to touch any ground no matter what you do.
My socket was loose and I do appreciate you showing how to tighten the socket.

You and me both. What I can say is that 1) I've witnessed it multiple times and 2) I found a troubleshooting guide for the grill that describes one of the issues as 'sparking against cabinet'
The grill worked flawlessly for me after this video for about a year and a half after this video, and then it acted up again on a holiday when I was ready to cook.
I finally gave up, removed the lower grate to the electronics area and left the socket dangling out the bottom. Haven't had an issue since.

Thanks for the video. Mine pulled out the first time I pulled the plug. I noticed it was loose but didn’t think anything of it.

Really appreciate the video. I just got a ledge and will look for this issue. I know a TH-camr who mentioned his portable one would get flaky if someone moved the cord - sounds like the same issue.

Thank you so much! I had this same exact issue. I didn’t realize you could tighten it in this fashion. I kept the 12v cable in the housing (not plugged into the wall) to get it to stop from free spinning. I don’t think I’ll ever unplug it again from the housing to prevent it from loosening again. Very frustrating

    Dude
    Totally awesome video!
I agree that this product has some problems! Not just the product but also the dealers.
I have a power block issue that may be a receptacle it might be a wire I don’t know what it might be but now I have a few things to look at.
I’m going to try to just wire in my power block direct and bypass that outlet and see what happens. I was just about to waste about $80 on a new power block.
    Anyway nice Work!

I had the same issue of the cord getting bumped or moved and the grill shutting off and having to be restarted. I finally cut the male cigarette adapter off of the main cord, disconnected the female cigarette socket and wired the two directly together. Haven't ever had a power issue or had it turn off unexpectedly since.

I don't have the Ledge.. but I do have the Davey Crocket.. I had a meat probe problem. I called GMG and they got right on it... I was impressed with their customer service.. FYI.. you should give them a call.. they seem eager to fix issues.. would be interested to hear what they say about your found problem..

Mine was the same. So grateful that I found your video! My control panel failed on day 3 so its been a rough start. At start up, I seem to get a lot of smoke loss around the seal/weld on the ends of the lower barrel. Sorry if that's a bad description! I assume I continue to lose that good clear smoke the entire smoke. Anyone else notice it? Anyone seal it with high heat silicon? Thanks in advance.

After two years of ownership, I’m tired of fussing with the flimsy connectors. Finally mounting the converter inside the cabinet and adding a socket for a more reliable connection.

Hi, thanks for the video! Mine is doing the same thing… unfortunately we’ve had it maybe 2 years, but haven’t used it much. I took off the bottom and got the wire disconnected, but can’t seem to get the outside piece disconnected from the inside piece. Those pieces are stuck pretty well together (and unfortunately I don’t have the same hand strength as a guy). Any suggestions on how to get those pieces apart? Any tools that may help? Thanks!!! :)

Thanks. Have had mine for 2 years and have replaced 5 ignitors, a complete power supply kit as well as the 12v female adaptor 2x. Love the overall product, but shitty design.

I'm going to just cut my power cord off, and use some wire nuts to splice the actual power cable and the wire on the inside.
Hoping it will be a better fix as I won't really need to use anything outside of my power brick

I have been having non-stop constant problems with my grill I have worn out three triggers so I got tired of their build quality. The Green Mountain build quality is a little better but the dang control panel and everything else is malfunctioning all the time so half the time I just give up. I plug mine in and it no longer it no longer Powers up and doesn't have that bright annoying "OFF"
Glowing bright red all the damn time!
Now it won't even light up , now it just beeps all the dang time and won't turn on! Probably the same problem but why does it have power for the damn alarm but not power for the control panel!
I'll mess around with this thing again! !

Ok. My grill just randomly shut off on me during a cook on Christmas Eve. I went to use it tonight 1/7/24. The green light on my power cord is not lit. I checked the cord it’s fine. I even took apart the control panel and checked all connections. They are fine. What could be the issue? You seem to have more knowledge about this than I do

First thing I'd check is to see if your outdoor outlet is a GFCI outlet, or if your outdoor outlet is connected to another GFCI outlet. My GFCI outlet is in the garage and if that one trips, it kills the outdoor outlet. Other than that, I'd say if the green light isn't coming on,, it's most likely the cable, but you said you checked that

Have you tried to re-do the software updates? I had issues updating the software right after I bought it. The first few times it stalled out. Make sure you're very close to your wifi connection and also close to your grill. I had to do the SW update with the grill inside the house, about 10 feet from the router.

yea i had the issue of needing to do it multiple times, but the one broke it. New board coming in the mail from warranty.

Good job Karen......The chasis of the grill and the outside of the DC plug are BOTH Negative Ground. NO way for them to arch out. The red center post of the plug housing is the Positive pole. It is NOT shorting. It is loosing connection. BIG difference. That outer housing supplies the negative ground to the entire cabinet. It would help if you had a basic knowledge of electricity especially DC current.

No, it's been rock solid. I decided to never unplug the socket from the back of the grill. I put the entire cord up inside of the cover and keep the grill outside when storing it. It's rained and snowed on it and there's been no issues, whatsoever. And the food has been amazing
