      This was kind of a birth for Canadian international basketball. These guys will play frequently from now on. Adding Murray, Wiggins and maybe Shaedon Sharpe in the future. That could work out quite good.

    Canada demanded their players commit to 3 years before the Olympics. Because being a team means playing as a team. Showing up the day before isn’t the way to do it. Wiggins has extenuating circumstances and Murray is injured - so they are eligible for Paris.

    • @dantedavis4679
      @dantedavis4679 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Correction Nick Nurse said that it wasn't really followed and a lot of Canadian NBA players rightly said that's unfair because we have our literal basketball careers to focus on, new coach Jordi was more lax on this issue which is the right thing your actual career should come first because that's how you support your family. This team was constructed just before the World Cup this team didn't play together for 3 years same as USA and we still beat them which is good because our olympic starting line up will pretty much be the same with added chemistry from a World Cup meanwhile the USA starting lineup will be entirely different with no chemistry good for us.

    • @jesses5465

      @@dantedavis4679not sure if you are Canadian but yes the players on this roster committed to 3 years and this was year two of three, three being next years Paris Olympics.
      The gm is Rowan Barrett and the rule is if you commit and show up there is a spot for you in Paris, if you don’t commit then you are not guaranteed a spot. If one becomes available then they will consider other players ie Wiggins.

    This is team USA problem. They think they can just put bunch of good NBA players in a team and things will work out.
    Do you know why team USA was unsuccessful in this world cup.
    1. They don't play like they want it. Terrible defence.
    2. To much ISO ball. One guy has the ball in his hands and everyone just stands around and watches.
    3. Rebounding & physicality. Jaren Jackson Jr. Your defensive player of the year, he averaged 2.9 rebounds in this world cup. The Serbian center Nikola Milutinov who plays for Olympiacos in Greece, averaged 8.4 rebounds, (to put things in perspective).
    4. It's not always about the STARS. SGA played pretty bad against Serbia in the semi finals. The serbian guard Aleksa Avramovic who comes of the bench, played great defence on shai and the rest of the canada team. He had 4 steals in the game against Lithuania.
    5. Latvia was my favorite team to watch in this world cup, even if they came in 5th place. The reason why is they played hard every single possession. They were fantastic defensively. Honestly I think Latvia would have also won over team USA, just like Lithuania and Germany. Dennis Schröder got outplayed by Arturs Zagars who is 21 years old.
    The United States are always gonna have the best players. They are the best basketball nation in the world, but they will continue to lose games against other nations until they learn to never underestimate their opponent, bring better american players to the world cup and realize that FIBA rules and NBA rules are different. There are less possession, there will be more contact. You have to play defence, you have to play with passion to win certain games.

      But most of your points are inhanced by NBA rules. That is why the NBA is also getting worse and worse by the season. Just wanting more scoring and ISO ball. Less teamball and they wish for ne defense at all..

    • @atlien1988
      @atlien1988 ปีที่แล้ว

      1. Team USA & Canada play NBA style basketball which is not suitable to winning consistently in INTL play unless you have all the best players in the world on one team.
      2. Why do we even need all the best players when you even admitted that SGA was outplayed by someone who will likely never make the NBA?
      3. Talent is the _least important issue_. The main issue is that Team USA continually underestimates their opponents just because they have the best collection of talent in the world. Even the _ B or C team_ is more talented than 99.999999% of the teams that participate in the World Cup.
      4. FIBA & Olympic basketball is better than NBA basketball. The rules make it so every position matters & they don't cater to perimeter players or Superstars. The NBA has allowed nonsense in order to increase scoring which the casual fan only understands.

    Canada team knows what to expect… most of the Canadian nba players played for Canada before their NBA careers… they are not strangers with the team,,, league and the rules… even the none NBA players,,, just recently,,, they were unbeatable in the Americas region… it was not a surprise that Canada took home a medal… now with the US team,,, they were actually remarkable for young players who never played together…. They still reach the semis… it’s disappointing because of the expectations and the idea that the NBA players are the best in the world and can’t be beaten…

    I love how these 'knowledgable basketball analysts', after watching team USA losing to Germany and Lithuania, two teams without a superstar, arrived to the conclusion that the third loss was because the opposing team had a superstar. This is too funny. Did you loose to Germany because they had a superstar too? Andreas Obst gave these dudes about 26, is he a superstar? Team basketball, building chemistry and the right culture together and every player understanding their role. Playing as a team at both ends. That's what it takes to win. A superstar isn't going to cut it. I hope these people go and learn something about basketball, because it's not really about starpower, not in FIBA basketball.

    In 1996 I saw a team with former NBA (and maybe NCAA) players, "veterans" playing against an under-23 national team of my country. Until the break, the score was something like 47-42. During the break, some speeches were held - it was a charity event. The match ended in something like 112-49. It was a "cold" but spectacular victory. Only one of the American players could execute the slam dunk. 1-2 of them didn't even have a competitive run anymore. Otherwise, technique, defense, passes, shots at the basket, everything was exceptional.

Getting a Bronze is also huge seeing how its our 1st medal since the 30's or something....that being said. When your expected to win Gold, nothing else matters. In Olympic Hockey if our Canadian team dont bring the Gold we are very heart broken and many counties/athletes feel this way.
