Smooth racing... and surprisingly easy to see where you are despite the colors. :-) As a yank, I never experienced the Speccy... but it sure seemed more capable than I thought back then. :)
yeah it's pretty impressive tbh, especially as it also ran in 48k mode just without the music. They squeezed just about everything they could out of the Speccy by the end, sometimes they overstretched a bit but there were plenty of great achievements like this, Chase HQ and WEC Le Mans. I Love this game Lee, fun memories on the Speccy! If you have a Nintendo 3ds they have a fantastic port on the Sega 3d Classic Collection, it also plays brilliantly in 3d but it’s balls hard (or I’m just terrible at it!)

A great version on the mighty Speccy Lee I think, obviously not a patch on the arcade but as good as we could have dreamed of I think. Certainly more chase HQ quality than the Outrun port was🤣 Amazing game in the arcade, love it👍

Now, that was an impressive port for the ZX Spectrum, but not one I've played myself. I still have my original 48k, and this is making me think that perhaps it's time to dust it off and again! 😃

I remember this from back in the day and to be honest this was the graphical style of game that started to put me off the Spectrum. I understand the limitations of the machine and to get anything remotely resembling Power Drift was a feat in itself but the sacrifice of colour for detail leaves me a bit cold. One of the joys of the earlier Spectrum games was that they were really colourful.....You do get the odd title that successfully fused detail and colour, R-Type on the Spectrum probably being a good example.......................Looking forward to Pole Position.🤭
@@allanmailer4540 yep I know what you mean. I did love the bright colours in full effect and never had an issue with colour clash. But I did really enjoy these later games aswell, Chase HQ and Wec Le Mans were my favourites in that style, they blew my mind back then!
I don't think I've played a ZX before but I'm assuming the graphic style is normal for the console in which case it seems to play smoothly and you can tell what everything is! I think the ZX got an Outrun port as well? And it was like this?

I dont think powerdrift was 2 player mate, i liked it in the arcades purely for the machine but there were far better driving games out at the time, the speccy does a good job, how weird on the music is that a fault or did they mean to drop the music until the 3rd level?
@@tootyuk no idea on the music front but I kinda like the way it comes in for race 3, feels like a progression thing to me but way well be a bug. Thinking about it by default it starts you off with race 3 so perhaps that is why, who knows. Ah just my memory playing tricks on me then, could've sworn there was two sit down seats next to each other although I suppose there could have been just mot against each other I think the developers did a great job here bringing it to the Speccy, even in 48k Cheers Stu👍
It’s good for the spectrum, amazing for 48k really, but it’s also a bit ropey, no? The cart looks to long when you turn and I never felt I got the cart to drift around corners like it does in the arcade. I think you should play speccy roadblasters next 😆

Yep while limited it played a very fun game of Power Drift and still does, great bit of programming considering it also ran in 48k.
