    Good job! I've been a paraplegic for 53 years as a result of a car accident when I was 20. I have worked at keeping my weight down by swimming and eating healthy. You are right about persistence! It pays. During Covid when the pool was closed, I found online aerobics and yoga for wheelchair users. It has helped bring down my cholesterol. Keep up the good work!

      Nice one of the biggest things i've learned is you have to find what works specifically for you and whats going to be sustainable for you. There are a lot fades and stuff out there but in the end its pretty simple calories in vs calories out and making sure you get enough of the good stuff mixed in with the calories in part!

      That's wonderful! I've been doing IF and about1360 calories and I'm not losing much. Only about 4 inches since may. What am I doing wrong???

      Hey Michelle how are things going for you? I know it can be difficult and frustrating sometimes. I have gained a lot of weight during pandemic when I had limited to access to a gym, increased boredom and other stressors, but don't give up and keep trying stuff

    I like your advice so much, especially about "being persistent if you can't be perfect". I have peripheral polyneuropathy and I'm temporarily on a wheelchair. I've always been worried about not being able to lose weight because I have limited mobility. But your video has changed my perspective. 😁

    So glad I found this! I couldn't find any info on how fewer calories someone with spina bifida should generally have. Though my own estimations and trial and error, I was right on the mark even though my GP told me I should be eating more.

      Diet is going to be the most important thing with only using half our bodies our calorie necessities are surprisingly reduced! For example I am 5'4 weigh 223lbs and my calorie needs to maintain are only about 1500 a day!

    • @AdaptedAdventures
      @AdaptedAdventures  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      so let me just start by saying i am not expert by any means!! there are two things I have found that seem to be about right maybe lol, and they give different numbers, but admittedly it sometimes has to be a little bit of trial an error. With that said, I had a dietician share with me once that she found info that said basically that in order to maintain your weight that your caloric intake should be around 7-11 calories per centimeter of height depending on activity. She was specifically referencing for paraplegics, so I am not sure how this would translate over to other impairments, but it might be a good place to start? Again not a pro at this by any means, and during the pandemic i admittedly gained a lot of weight back but now I'm moving in the right direction again!

    Hey Kasey! I have Spina Bifida as well. How do I find a food specialist (I can't type the right word lol) that knows about people with Spina Bifida??

    • @AdaptedAdventures
      @AdaptedAdventures  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Brian I actually went to a weight loss/control clinic, and it was one at a hospital not like jenny craig or medifast. I met with a dietician there and told her I was specifically looking for information on caloric needs for people with spina bifida and after some research she was able to find some stuff for me. Theres not a lot out there to begin with so that makes it tough. Also, im not sure where you are located but here in the Twin Cities there is a clinic that all the doctors specialize in adult care for people with spina bifida, cp, and other types of those disabilities. If you could find a clinic like that in your area I am confident that those people would have a better grasp of this type of thing than your everyday dietician.
