    Rivets are all the same weight and spaced. Welding depending on speed of fan will probably be out of balance due to heavy and lighter welds. But hopefully not.

    • @jaysmith4293
      @jaysmith4293 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Yeah it not likely to be balanced and will vibrate so badly it could tear itself apart. The build up of that hard material on it probably caused it to get out of balance and vibration caused the cracks that Anthony repaired. Hope it works out.

    Depending on the speed that fan spins at welding it may just cause more issues. If it is out of balance it will vibrate that fan to pieces.

      *If the shaft is solid steel, sometimes you're alright. If it kicks or you're replacing bearings every month, like balancing wheels for racing, I'll place the shaft (axle) between two level surfaces, let them roll to the heavy spot at the 6 o'clock position, Sharpie it and grind away 5mm in 2cm intervals. Then try it again. Eventually there's no repeating heavy spot and you are (much closer to) balanced.*

  • @tjs_welding_and_fabrication
    @tjs_welding_and_fabrication 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Nice job. You got a lot of time in that fan. Too bad you are not closer. I could have cnc plasma cut you new circles and blades in no time. No brake needed either. Just program some slots at x degrees on the round pieces equally spaced and make the blades slip in the slots and tig from the outside.

    i think you put the fins on backwards. if you look at the original one the shaft at the bottom the top of the fin thats bent is facing right. so right on top, when you weld it you have the fin bend facing the left so the holes arnt going to line up.

    Yeah brother that is tough job but you are up to it
    I m afraid that you will have excessive vibration with that fan and it will self destruct. I have experience doing HVAC and weld repair. If it does vibrate take to a HVAC company that has the equipment to balance it. You might have remove as much of the weld material as possible first. If you can't get HVAC to do that, if you have a friend at a tire shop do a getto balance job on it. No bad vibes here ,you do a damn good job.

    Nice job Anthony. Please plumb your compressor all 1/2" ID pipe and hose from the tank on. Then use a 3/8" (reel) short connector hose as a whip for your tools. I have one scaler that has a straight 1/2" ID connector. That sucker hits like no tomorrow. I also have a small straight scaler that I use the whip for to get into tight places. I put a 1/2" ID whip on the Arc Gouger and connect it to the 1/2" hose and that made a world of difference. Keep kicking it brother. ;)

He probably thinks "Oh Anthony can fix that for me no problem" maybe without knowing how much of an ass welding shitty aluminum is. That was a tough repair for sure. Making a new blower fan would probably have been the easiest way to go but I can imagine how hard trying to convince your Dad to do that would be. Good job on making the best of what you could with what you had. Getting it done no matter what 👍

    My daughter likes collecting old railroad spikes. We live next tourist trap where they have converted rail line into a ride. These are old rusted and bent spikes. Anyway she wanted me to clean them so she could paint them. Just threw them in my cement mixer with abrasive sand blast medium. About an hour later they came beautifully. Makes a hell of a lot of noise but neat trick.

    I recall tig welding this dirty old aluminum plate that, that was left in a pile of shit, The boss knew exactly where it came from, as he had not order that stuff in years. when the entire skin lifted up that freaked me out a bit like WTF is that, I used 4% zirconium balled on brass, gives you a black ball or the "black Pearl" and you weld under this skin layer which protects the aluminum. The worst was welding food baking carts - the smell of burning onions and spices.

    1. you are supposed to use a TIG welder on aluminum. Yeah they make crappy aluminum rods but those are a JOKE. Use a TIG and an aluminum filler rod to weld aluminum. Using anything else, is like trying to weld a serious welding project with a soldering iron. 2. Your whole job as a welder is FABRICATION. The whole purpose of welding is PENETRATION. Sure you are fixing broken stuff sometimes, but a majority of your job is rebuilding broken parts. 3. If you are repairing/fabricating aluminum parts, then you should always have acetone on hand to be cleaning your aluminum surfaces. They immediately oxidize after you clean them. that coating of oxidation will play havoc with your welds. The first 30 seconds of your video you should have seen how dirty that part is, how it's made, and in your head reverse engineered it and took it apart to figure out how you can rebuild it yourself. Rebuilding it yourself would have took you fabricating each part to spec, laying them out,
