Andy was my neighbor in Manhattan and we walked our dogs together. He was a very sweet guy and always affectionate to my pup Mr Duffy. Warhol was considered 'genius level' as a student in Pittsburgh and his eventual use of repetition had more to do with art history than some trendy statement on mass production or the use of some speed. He is acknowledged as one of the greatest artists of the 20th century for a reason.

I had headphones on but I atleast mouthed "what?" when I learned he was a pathological liar. He( Andy Warhol) and those associated with him were quite the fascination at the time in the 60's in particular and continue to be. In a documentary about him I viewed a few months back apparently/supposedly the Warhol name change came from a typo credit that he liked and kept. He certainly was productivity obsessed( hence the drugs). He may have been "on the spectrum" as well. I had a time years ago ( with Deitch Projects in NYC) being involved in a capacity with some who knew Mr Warhol and/or were inspired by him. Thanks!
You've done an amazing job, at encapsulating us into this era. This was always an interesting point of time for me, Lou Reed, Velvet Underground, and the feeling of "expression." You can tell, this came out of the Beatnik culture, and formed into it's own little culture immediately. Not many people would focus on the Amphetamine/Methamphetamine aspect, as it used to offend people (because they used to do those drugs) - now in today's society, we see that it was very crucial in the "mental health" aspects, that we often overlooked for decades. This modern era, of perspective, will help us look back at these times with more of an understanding socially.
I've been a huge fan of Warhol and all pop artists from that era. The one thing I never did was enjoy their art for the quirky and bizarre nature of the individual artist. The image they create with their art and not the image they create with their lifestyle is where my appreciation came from. To me, it's about the image and what I see and feel and not what the artist thinks or wants or expects me to feel and think. Art is a very personal journey not only for the creator but the viewer as well.

I read somewhere that Warhol was a regular Mass goer. That signals an immense internal conflict with his artistic output, public persona and social activities. A complex man would be an understatement!
Yeah Andy went to mass but he stood in the back, did not participate in the sacrament and would leave early. I'd say he was conflicted alright. Poor guy. He definitely loved his mom though!

Carnegie Institute of Technology is not an art school but a regular college where Andy studied art. Today it's known as the prestigious Carnegie Mellon University or as locals know it as, CMU..
An acquaintance of mine related how he approached a man from behind who had dark hair on the back of his head, but oddly appearing light hair on the sides. When he got around in front of him he realized it was Andy Warhol.

How can you KNOW that he was addicted? How many people today are prescribed stimulants that have been life changing. Also, the people who flocked to him must have loved being there and wouldn’t have changed it for the world. I left my well paying job in Architecture to assist an artist, because his creative energy fed my soul. I have no regrets.
For sure! They wanted to be there. They weren’t held hostage. Some did express resentment though. Some aspects of relationships are more clearly observed from a distance and with time vs when you’re in it. And that’s fair, I know I can’t fully know anything about historical figures as I was not there nor was I them. It’s a conclusion based on quotes, events, and art left behind.

This is not an attack on Andy, I even say so at 06:17. And I'm always interested in art analysis and appreciation, but I've also always been interested in biographies. The good, bad, and ugly that happened is interesting! This video just covers 1 small and rather condensed aspect of his life, drug use. It doesn't mean it's all he did or all that matters and certainly not a put down on Andy.

Warhole is the worst thing that could happen to art he lowered its standards literally to garabage.
How can you KNOW that he was addicted? How many people today are prescribed stimulants that have been life changing. Also, the people who flocked to him must have loved being there and wouldn’t have changed it for the world. I left my well paying job in Architecture to assist an artist, because his creative energy fed my soul. I have no regrets.
For sure! They wanted to be there. They weren’t held hostage. Some did express resentment though. Some aspects of relationships are more clearly observed from a distance and with time vs when you’re in it. And that’s fair, I know I can’t fully know anything about historical figures as I was not there nor was I them. It’s a conclusion based on quotes, events, and art left behind.

This is not an attack on Andy, I even say so at 06:17. And I'm always interested in art analysis and appreciation, but I've also always been interested in biographies. The good, bad, and ugly that happened is interesting! This video just covers 1 small and rather condensed aspect of his life, drug use. It doesn't mean it's all he did or all that matters and certainly not a put down on Andy.
