  • Today we're taking you inside the glorious New York City loft of Andy Warhol's former creative director, Marc Balet. He bought his three-story loft in Manhattan's Noho district more than 30 years ago. Absolutely brimming with his collection of personal photography and true works of art, Marc brings us down memory lane of his favorite moments throughout his highly-esteemed career. Glamorous fashion magazine covers and eye-catching advertising campaigns adorn Marc's loft to create the cheekiest time-capsule, while custom-designed furniture emphasizes the personal sentiment that has been accumulating in the space for more than three decades. Enjoy!

Thanks for your post/comment! I’m really interested in seeing a variety of humans from all walks of life that live in eclectic and aesthetically pleasing homes that are unique.
I’m really getting tired of only watching homes that are from extremely wealthy individuals who have been blessed to have inherited so much expensive items and have had the opportunity to travel without working hard for their money.
I’m not knocking them down in any way, I’m just looking for more interesting places around the world. ❤

I’m a lifetime New Yorker, at 59 I can say that this is my new favorite Homeworthy video. I don’t have this sized apt, but my studio is filled with books and prints and photos on the wall; finally somebody who looks like they actually live and collect things. I love it. I hope he’s just as happy wherever he goes. And all the Interview/Warhol history, wow.💜

He’s living in a home, a place he loves and is filled with his life’s memories. People need to be more secure in themselves to live in a home, not an assemblage of the ‘latest’ that has no soul.

I loved this episode .Marc offers so much nostalgia and is just so down to earth. Love how he has kept things basically the same and the stories he shared. So unpretentious and lived in, the walls could talk. As an artist I found these glimpses into the Warhol era a real gift .

What an interesting man! I can totally understand his attitude about wanting to move on to the next phase of his life, but this amazing home would be like leaving an old friend behind & never being able to see them again. Whoever buys this place will have such a perfect dream loft space, he has done so much work to it! He has so many stories to tell & I became overwhelmed to the point of tears thinking of his dedicated housekeeper gluing back together all those pieces of the broken bowl, she sensed how distraught he was when it arrived broken! No one does all that for someone who isn’t truly wonderful & means so much to them...I wish him the best in his next home!

Hands down my favorite Homeworthy tour (and I’ve loved and inspired by a lot of them). It could be he’s just an all around interesting humble guy who has amazing stories, or because I just find that time in NYC fascinating or because I love an artist home (art everywhere that’s personal and collected over time, has this not trying too hard just threw together the things that they love and somehow it just all works together beautifully). Love this and honestly sad to hear he’s leaving it but happy the photo wall will come to his new home. I need to be on the look out for his book, he’s saying he’s writing because I have a feeling we got just a tip of the iceberg of stories. Thanks for sharing your home and stories with us Marc!

I was fresh off the boat (well, plane) from Mpls to NYC for the first time w/ my portfolio under my arm hoping to score a job in art direction somewhere in the Big Bad City. Interview magazine was alllll the rage...so I called up the offices, to make an appt, and Marc answered the phone... he said" yeah..come on down"...so I hopped in a cab for the first time! He was very friendly and gracious as he looked thru my portfolio. There was no art director position available coz he was a one man show! But he was kind enough to make a call to the creative director of Bloomingdale's: John Jay...and after my appt w/ Jay..I was offered a job! But I ended up (stupidly) taking the job that paid the most dough: BBDO ad agency, Beeeeeeeeg mistake..but I hung in for 4 years. Marc..u are da bomb! Thanks for your kindness! You are a wide net creative and a very sweet and humble human to boot!

I really dislike homes curated to impress guests at huge expense. This was fantastic and all about his actual life and times spent in a place he built to live, work, entertain and chill out. All the impressive art originates from actual relationships and stories, not bought at tge highest bid as "decor" or some "power statement". A really interesting, warm home, he's a refreshingly unpretentious, creative and really legendary person, who's still remained grounded. And his place really reflects his personality. This is really a unique and truly artistic, truly NY kind of space full of fun and life! I do understand the need to move on after so many years, and I'm sure his next space will be just as great!

I totally enjoyed this House Tour of this very elegant down to earth gentleman. Surprised he didn't mention Warhol's lime green Electric Chair (@17:06) silkscreen. Absolutely iconic image from his Death and Disaster series and worth about $8 million. Having myself lived though that era (late 70s- 80s) was an incredible mind blowing experience but like Mr Balet I'm also not nostalgic and agree that one has to always be looking for new things to discover in order to keep one's mind fresh and open. The other really striking thing is how the East Village changed from a burnt out war zone/ open air drug market and morphed into a place of super gentrified luxury condos. It's still however a fun and creative hang and very happy to report the old Pyramid music venue on Ave A will be reopening this spring.

Very interesting home. I saw a previous video of Mr. Balet's with that photo collage still up. I would think before you put it back up Mr. Balet in your new place, that you will have a book made out of it. That would be a top seller for sure! I've known of you for many years having been a fan of Mr. Warhol's and having many books on him. Lots of interesting things though I understand your wanting a change after so many years there. I think you're making the right decision. Great getting to understand more specifically your role at Interview magazine and seeing first hand some of the projects you were involved in. Thanks for that info. That kind of information can be hard to come by. Hoping to see future videos of yours.

I was perplexed why Marc would want to sell, until I saw those stairs to the loft bedroom! No matter how fit you are, as you approach a certain age steep stairs are confronting. Marc seems like a great guy, love his attitude and home.
