Thanks to all who have left words of encouragement/feedback. The next video should be out this week and I'll try to increase upload frequency once I get the hang of this editing + commentary thing. Mike
Definitely subbed and notified. Don't feel pressure to put out as frequently as possible. This quality of content requires masterful craftsmanship. It took Michelangelo 4 years to paint the Sistine Chappel.
And so ends the Legend of Tarvyn Faren, Slayer of Cliff Racers and Doom of Merchants, in the depths of Red Mountain, the Nerevarine‘s most trusted follower and impenetrable shield of the Chosen One, his heroic sacrifice will forever be remembered and his deeds inspired the likes of St. Jiub in his Crusade against the Cliff Racer scourge. Forever immortalizing his inspiring words “We‘re going to travel together to Pelagiad, right?“ or his famous „Take me to the Halfway Tavern in Pelagiad.“ In a tragic twist of fate, his one wish could never be fulfilled. To this day pilgrims of the Nerevarine Cult honor St. Faren by offering Amulets of Command at the Halfway Tavern in Pelagiad.
Legend says two statues were erected in Balmora for the Unknow'd merchants who wielded the legendary weapons at the final battle. Their names are not remembered, their faces forgotten but none shall forget their bravery.
The eruption of Red Mountain buried the visage of these heroes in impermeable ash. Poetic, for these heroes saved Nirn, not for glory. It was simply the will of the dream no longer needing its dreamer.
The ingenuity required to remain faithful to the challenge against all odds was just out of this world, insanely well done! Rest in peace, Tarvyn, the unsung legend of Vvardenfell. May afterlife deliver you to glorious Pelagiad that was denied you in life...
This is way more inventive than the average challenge run, bravo. I expected you to just break the rules at dagoth ur and the heart, but this demonstrates way more system mastery, 11/10
I'm genuinely surprised that actually worked out, really interesting challenge. A good mix of dry delivery and genuinely clever lines with just the right amount of references and silliness. Great stuff!
Yes the scripting and footage used here was great. Awesome video structure. Explaining the issues with this challenge and how they were fixed flowed very well into the quick quips and jokes through the delivery. Your voice is also quite soothing, and pauses in narration helped to process the video footage and pace information in an easily digestible manner
Voryn Dagoth was the incorruptible companion of Nerevar in life, yet he became maddened in undeath by his loyalty. When the betrayal of the ALMSIVI happened he reconstructed out of shear will and the power of Lorkhan. Perhaps in a few eras we will see an avatar of Tarvyn attempt to rebuild the Akhulakhan and Nerevar will return from Akivir to challenge the madness of their ancient friend. Time is a flat circle.
@Stubhose How can one judge the magnum opus of a living artist? These machinations are unknowable to laymen like us. In the great words of our forebears, "let him cook".
“Did you ever hear the Tragedy of Tarvyn Faren the Loyal? I thought not. It’s not a story the Tribunal Temple would tell you. It’s an Ashlander legend.”
this was awesome. i think a good final touch of ultimate "restoration magic" would have been to resurrect Tarvyn at the end using the console commands and then just pretend the gods of Elders Scrolls did it as a reward for Tarvyn's courage and bravery hahah
This was incredible, I've seen a lot of challenge runs that give up on the final bit under the assumption you have to use the weapons yourself. I have never seen this genius workaround. Well done. @JustBackgroundNoise a challenger approaches.
Just make videos of this quality and you’ll be a TH-cam trillionaire in a year or less. I’ve never even played morrowind but love wasting countless hours on videos about games I’ve never played. This video is really good because i can just listen and still follow exactly whats happening.
I'm watching this with Tarvyn's perspective in mind. This crazy Breton shows up and swears to take him home, showers him in gifts and keeps making him fight to near death day after day and stitched back together with magic. All the while brought way, way off course, and finally blooped into lava. What a wonderful horror story. Good show!
This is the most uniquely solved Morrowind challenge I've seen yet! I was sceptical towards the end, wondering if it's going to actually work, but it did! Never knew the command spells allowed you to pull off stuff like this.
Dude, with all the support spells morrowind has, and is capable of making- that final scene where all the merchants were attacking the heart- I wish that was possible base game by making a party with speech craft.
Me: "Ok, I´m taking on this quest od yours... but only if we do my quest first!" Tarvyn: "Ok, what are we going to do?" *Agonized Cliff-Racer noises* *Dagoth Ur Taunts* *Explosions inside Red Mountain*
At 16:02 you talk about attacking the enchanter upstairs to get her to move, if you do the first quest for mushrooms (all are in Seyda and you don’t go out of your way for them) the next quest she asked you do put a fake soul gem in the desk upstairs while the enchanter comes all the way down both sets of stairs, if you leave the cell and come back in her programming for walking back upstairs gets overrode and she will stand downstairs forever, making it easier to do all your shopping and training in the one room, and letting you steal the near 100K gold worth of soul gems and limeware platter upstairs, one of my favorite little secrets of morrowind, but not really a secret, just poor scripting on an old game. Try it out! :)
"Vivec, the city where getting lost is a feature, not a bug." I laughed not because of the meme, because today I spent WAY too much time in Vivec. Doing several errands in one trip, keeping track of those and your physical location, drove me mad. I kept making rp jokes about how no where in Morrowind makes me cry but Vivec.
Extraordinary planning, discipline, mechanical understanding, and exposition. Overall a breath of fresh air for youtube content these days. Thank you for being you, looking forward to whatever you do next. This video alone has solidified me as a long time viewer no matter what you do next.
Btw old protip here: you can steal all of Galbedir's shit by first having her face away from the desk, then jumping on top of it behind her and crouching, the sneak will for some reason always trigger when youre perched up there and she's looking the other way. edit: all the way on the top of the desk in the corner is where the sneak hits best. She's got one grand soulgem for 60k and a bunch of other for like another 20k so after a few round at Ghorak manor you're ballin
It's fun to think that in one universe, the world was actually saved by two angry merchants attacking a heart just because it associated with the Nerevarine.
I swear Morrowind is the best isekai-themed video game ever. "The Wrong Way To Use Healing Magic" and especially "Redo of Healer" have much to learn from The Elder Scrolls.
I like to think that periodically Tarvyn would go "So we are going to Pilashiad (i dunno spelling) right?" and your character just being like "Oh yeah definitely now kill these 20 cliff racers!" The channel Just Background Noise gave you a nice shoutout for this challenge which led me here and I was not disappointed! It truly was like someone figuring out an intricate puzzle and it was so satisfying! I think the biggest thing about it is just how many different kinds of spells Morrowind has and the interesting ways they can interact with each other. That and how the AI can be manipulated into doing what you want without using cheats or mods to do it! You have definitely earned a sub my friend!
This is the first time I've seen anyone actually beat a Morrowind challenge without permitting the use of Keening and Sunder. I'm both awed and a little afraid.
This is a fantastic challenge, well done! Also, kinda weird, but your voice and cadence is really soothing, if you ever did audiobooks I'd listen to them all the time (ooh, especially if it's the books from elder scrolls games)
Hopefully we got more Morrowind content like this and Just background noise. I didn't even realize this was a new channel until after I watched the video! Good job.
"No, jumping and acrobatics don't break the rules. But if you have an issue with that, you'll like what I'm working on next." I'm rewatching this after watching the following project, lol. The torture.
It’s a really interesting idea, not being able to attack, its still morrowind so you’re able to think of some work around. Buffing a companion is pretty smart

This was an incredible run. I cried a single tear when Tarvyn made the ultimate sacrifice. :'(
You spoiled the ending for me and probably everyone else fyi. Jackass
What a spoiler this was.. 😭
Maybe Tarvyn was the Nerevarine all along.
Not to mention the 2 Balmoran merchants wielding the divine weapons Sunder and Keening like they're nothing.
@@planescaped Still wondering why he didn't use some Ald'ruhn merchants instead.

Exactly what I was thinking, Ive never seen anyone beat Dagoth Ur this way def something other challenge runners should know about
Poor Tarvyn. He saved the world, but paid the ultimate price.
How many cliff racers are you looking to kite?
Yes.
I'm genuinely surprised that actually worked out, really interesting challenge. A good mix of dry delivery and genuinely clever lines with just the right amount of references and silliness. Great stuff!

I like the delivery a lot
Agreed, delivery was fantastic.
This was awesome, I love that you didn't compromise ONCE despite first saying you won't be strict with the rules. Very refreshing.
I'd like to see this character continue the challenge in Tribunal and Bloodmoon
...you mean Tarvyn, right? Because Tarvyn is the main character
Some weird noise in the background told me to check this video out. Pretty great video honestly.
Like Sun Tzu, this fellow traveler popularized a strategy that will echo through challenge runs yet unmade.
Just Background Noise sent me here.

The mechanics that went behind the final completion are so cool, I love when ridiculously niche things like that come into play
I don't think I've ever seen the Neverine prophecy abused so badly. Great work.
Goddam this was insane. Wasn't expecting that end game "fight". Pbly the craziest challenge ever attempted in this game, congrats.
Didn’t expect such a high quality video when I clicked on this. I gave it a like and hopefully Ill end up seeing another whacky challenge from you man

“Did you ever hear the Tragedy of Tarvyn Faren the Loyal? I thought not. It’s not a story the Tribunal Temple would tell you. It’s an Ashlander legend.”
I really appreciate that you didnt cheat at the heart part and went through the burned of bringing the merchants with you
this was awesome. i think a good final touch of ultimate "restoration magic" would have been to resurrect Tarvyn at the end using the console commands and then just pretend the gods of Elders Scrolls did it as a reward for Tarvyn's courage and bravery hahah
Once again proving that Restoration is a perfectly valid school of magic, worthy of study 😌
"A heist so daring even the Nine Divines were left checking their pockets" is such a hard line
I can't imagine the feeling of having to do the merchant scumbag run not once but twice through red mountain. What a glorious victory!

The only thing better than this incredibly entertaining and creative run was the hilarious writing and jokes. 😂 Subbed for more!!
