It's a classic but it's there for a reason. 'This is a starting SMG. It has two fire modes: Full auto..." *BRARARARARAT* "...and fuller auto." *BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR-*
I really wish Streum would return to the EYE universe again. They've made some pretty decent Warhammer games since then, but there's just something genuinely unique and great about EYE.
Yeah I just wish more games like this would exist.. I feel like there's an alternate timeline where this was more common, or at least the PC shooter everything and the kitchen sink, that Deus ex had kind of promised.. before going back and unpromising real quick with the sequel.
I'd take a remaster even at this rate. While it's nice that they could step into actual Warhammer and take their typically aces aestetic game to a franchise that needs that, their work usually sadly suffers on the gameplay side, where ambitious ideas for mechanics start to fall apart with the general moment-to-moment, which is something shared by Space Hulk Deathwing and Necromunda Hired Gun in turn.
Ah hell yeah... Proto-Jank. Many a cold night in internet-less West Asia was spent with me nursing an ancient thinkpad into running EYE in order to entertain myself and 5 other grown men huddled around that 576p screen.
"It's true that I killed my mentor... and yet, I am not his murderer." A Lovecraft reference that I didn't get when I played it... You're right that it is a very special game. One of those you can remember a decade later with ease. You can say that about a lot of french games, but this one is an anomaly on its own.
Aw hell yeah, EYE is a really rough gem, but a gem nonetheless! Really bizarre game but it has so many unique qualities behind all that jank and roughness of execution that it's just one-of-a-kind experience. Really glad that you've found it fun, even if the first impressions were not that good. Peripeteia and Cruelty Squad comparisons are really apt. Both games have that weirdness element to them, similarly to EYE. Unexpected to see EYE video this day and age, but it's a great surprise! Really great outlook on the game here
I think E.Y.E is an underrated piece of art. Not because it's "deep" or you need to be cool to get it, but simply because it commits to a particular theme (the corrupting aspect of power) and expresses it really well through both narrative and gameplay.
Useless fact : Streumon is french « Verlan » (reversed talk, analog to Pig Latin), for « monstre », meaning « monster ». « Le Monstre » was also a satirical newspaper (parody of « Le Monde ») published in the 80s, where (allegedly) appeared the first mention of the word « brouzouf ».
That's very interesting! I have conflicting feelings now, on the one hand it's very cool to learn the meaning of that strange word but on the other hand the mystery of it is now gone. Either way I appreciate you sharing.
This game is definitely unique. I knew it was something when I came across blindfolded women with uzis with absolutely no context as to why they were there
EYE has been in my stream library for more than a decade and just recently I decided to finally play it. 😮 I think despite all the shortcomings this has quickly become one of my favorite games ever. The aesthetics of dark dystopian cyberpunk with giant superstructures looming over you is amazing. Reminds me of the early half life 2 prototype. Peripeteia demo had the same vibe and now I'm looking for more games that would scratch that itch for me.
fun fact, there's a second way to skip the hacking bit during the tutorial mission (beyond just shooting the Jian scum through the door); shooting a conspicuous rectangular box with a recessed bit/surface on it - it's near chest height at the bottom of one of the ladders going down to said walkway - will inexplicably open the door Also, there's an amazing spot to farm brouzouf on the coop variant of the Martian campaign mission (if you max the reinforcement rate). If you stand behind one of those stone pillars that're immediately in front of the bunker you start in, a gunship will instantly respawn as soon as the last one dies; and, with the Hunting Machine rifle you can either one or two shot them. Best of all, when it spawns you can get a shot on it but the stone pillar blocks their turret
Either I'm going crazy just like the main character of this game or I could've sworn you already reviewed this game before... Edit: I was thinking of Mandaloregaming's video, both you and Mandy have this smooth, podcast voice that genuinely put me to sleep at night. lol
I bought this game when it first came out. Really didn't know what to think of it. Seemed like a multiplayer focused Deus Ex at first but it really did its own thing. It's hard to compare this to any other game. I thought I didn't play it much but Steam says I played 6.5 hours. I must have enjoyed it or I wouldn't have lasted so long (especially considering the quirks unique to this game). I do remember I liked hacking. Though that was hard to figure out. I think I should give it another shot. Maybe I'll finish it this time.
Always happy when I see EYE get attention. Loved this game If you decide to pick up this game after this video and are reading this, be sure to get the english patch. The original english is a little jank and can cause some confusion with progression
I think that there's something really interesting about the way that this game handles difficulty and online play that should be tried again. Initially, the game is incredibly difficult and the player is only given sufficient levels of experience to barely buy all of the abilities. They can however specialise their build and go online to play the game with additional support, which is not only easier but also addresses the problem of the levels being impossible to complete without certain stats and being too large for the movement speed at that point in the game. Over time you can take your build from the first run of the game and start diversifying on NG+, giving the ability to complete levels solo without encountering situations such as a drop on the intended path that kills you if your build can't fall that far, or finding a door you can't open because you're too low level. By the time you've hit ng++ you should be able to do everything yourself and be able to get a clearer focus on the story. I know that it may not be intended but this way of playing the game is so thematically appropriate given the story involves your player character coming to learn that they have been talking to projections of their own psyche the whole time and the only way to escape this endless hell of your own making is to practice self acceptance and move past the things you did in life so that you can leave the cycle of death and resurrection and you can either become something better than you were before, or just rest.
I ran this game with my Space Marine Terminator build. Heavy armor, max strength and endurance, and Sulfatum Minigun. It was fun when the shooting started but holy shit the maps sizes made me fuckin miserable lol
@@caav56 lol yeah, or those ugly ass Stormravens. Like, most imperial aerospace craft are ugly, blocky things, but good lord, the Stormraven is the ugliest machine out there. Like; tell me how you build a gunship that somehow has fuckin Habsburg Jaw? 😂😂😂
Great game! A of a kind and must try. Did all the endings (not just 3 😂) thanks to friends who carried me a bit. 😅. Doing the whole thing in coop was a unique experience. Little hint, those medkits are very powerful😉
I don't remember half the locations you showed! I couldn't work out what I was meant to do most of the time. But I have a feeling whatever I did do, I reached some sort of ending.
"Brouzouf". Weird and hard to pronounce for non-French speakers ("r"/"ou"), outdated slang even in 2011 (in a "your-dad-thinks-its-funny" way) that absolutely destroys all immersion for us French-speakers... It kinda sounds like a stupid inside-joke placeholder they forgot to change, yet it seams like it might be reference to a 80s parody journal or something ? I love that choice of word, it's so... unusual. They should have called the game "Weird Baguette Warhammer" or something.
This is the closest we've gotten to a offline game that gives the same vibes as Anarchy Online. This is real Cyberpunk imo. Not that neon garbage. It's supposed to be realistic in colors and dirty and fleshy and weird, like the original Ghost in The Shell.
do you ever find these characters somewhere in the game? I mean the guy in golden skull mask. I still respect devs for making bootleg WH40k, only to get their hands on IP and making the WH40k games when GW sobered up and started handling licence to game developers without being petty
@Kaffeekatze-Coffeecat I just wish they were a little more humble about their influences and less sue happy. And I'm not opposed to "ripoff" type games. I'm still waiting for someone to ripoff Condemned, add some Lovecraftian-inspired ideas, and go balls deep into the dark fantasy.
The wallpaper art used in the video thumbnail and the Steam trading cards is more concept art than anything. The skull mask was what Rimanah was intended to have at some point, and the others are different variations of the Culter and Jian armors.
Ah, E.Y.E Divine Cybermancy... truly a VERY uniqe pice of a game. Well, as for me, aside from gameplay/design/etc the story... the story got me. Only just by its story this game got literaly to the first place in my all-time-favorite-games list and i don't think it will ever be replaced from it. As for all who got intrested by this game i reccomend to go throught the story just by yourself (without any guides etc etc). Would be better if you go throught it multiple times, to get all the things right and do not forget about short film :D.

My experience with this game is entering a random vent and crawling through a duct for what felt like 20 minutes without ever seeing the exit.
That's what you get for trying to take shortcuts.
My experience involved turning a corner and seeing a giant poster of Skeleton Bob Marley.
You don't need drugs to get high off of that.
@@jakedill1304bruh, I've tried this game as an Immersive-sim and expected it to reward me for exploring😢
Ah yes the game with Minigun as a starting weapon.
Based as hell
It's real good to! Does good damage, stupid high(highly inaccurate) fire rate, and no stupid rev up time.
It's a classic but it's there for a reason.

For the love of baguette
It's pronounced "brew-zoof"
And it's a very 2000s slang word, very dated nowadays
I got meme'd into playing this one a while ago, and for once, I do not regret it one bit

Because they modified the hell out of the source engine for them. It's why they don't really *feel* like source games.
