    I've seen many games where I can play as a member of the US military, be it the army, the marines, the air force, and the navy. As far as I know, this is the one and only game where you play as a coast guard member, and it's in a horror setting

    The fixed camera/over the shoulder combo is something i wish more developers would use in survival horror games. Hell Capcom should have used this idea for a resident evil game a long time ago. It's a perfect blend of classic and modern survival horror and im sure fans of both would love. I i know i do. If you're an indie dev and you plan on working on a survival horror title please consider using this idea.

    • @BadAssMacmillan
      @BadAssMacmillan 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      The RE4 beta version did that, but I think Mikami scrapped that idea and decided to stick to over the shoulder because RE4 being so combat focused would make the camera switching between the two styles confusing, especially in big open areas like the first village fight. Sticking to a consistent style with RE4 was the right choice. However, I can see this camera combo working in more traditional survival horror games that don't focus on combat/shooting that much and are usually set in closed areas, such as the classic RE games and Silent Hill games.

    • @metroplex29
      @metroplex29 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Only a tiny minority wants fixed cameras and tank controls to continue to exist in RE Games, fortunately the majority of players enjoy the franchise more with over the shoulder camera view.

    • @BadAssMacmillan
      @BadAssMacmillan 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@metroplex29 I mean, the most beloved game in the series (OG RE4) has tank controls, and two of the most beloved games in the series to this day (RE1 Remake and OG RE2) have both tank controls and fixed camera angles. There’s nothing wrong with tank controls and fixed camera angles, they’re just a design style. Some modern indie horror games actually use them. Personally I like both the classic and modern style of the camera and controls.

    I do remember something from these guys, almost nothing but here it goes:
    iirc these guys were working on some FPS survival horror game set in a citya, and they made released some demo/prototype vid of it. I remember watching that vid many times when I was younger, 'cause I played Cold Fear for the first time back when I was like 13 or so? And liking it a lot, so I was interested in whatever they were planning to do next.
    What I remember is that you were walking through a highway full of abandoned cars during a foggy night, making your way towards the city while fending off some dark zombie like creatures, and then you were taking a stroll through the city with some kind of special weapon designed for something... special. That's all I know. I kinda lost track of it since that was everything they ever showed and later I found out it got cancelled...
    And that's all I remember from this particular studio. Kinda sad, I do think Cold Fear is a very solid title and they at least deserved one more chance...

    I played and finished this game 2 times (1st on PS2, then on PC) years ago, and the 3 things that really ruined my overall impression for the game was the crappy save system, which can only be used once after reaching a story checkpoint, not being able to carry healing items (3 would've been enough), and final boss fight, which required you get caught & execute a QTE trigger to actually hurt it (as shown in video). If the game had better and more standard save system, and allowed you to carry healing items, I would've more than forgiven the final boss fight itself.

    (4:25 - 5:18) F***. We will never get a year like 2004 again, and that just sucks.

    Cold Fear definitely took inspirations from The Thing by John Carpenter
    In the place where there is nothing, they found someTHING

    ...funny how even it's idea of a boat to explore while using the boat's environment to make it out was taken by resident evil, albeit 10 years later with revelations.
    {I don't count dead aim as one, it's a completely different genre, and two the main characters both came along with a full arsenal, it just was stolen from them}

    I bought this game when I was 10 back in 2007. Played for 20min, got scared, never played it again.

    18:51 Honestly, Flood vs Covenant and Flood vs Covenant vs Sentinels with Chief being a fourth party were kind of under underutilized imo, would have been nice to have more battles like that.
    Meanwhile Halo 2 gave us one of the greatest moments in gaming at the end of Gravemind... You know what I'm talking about, in Mausoleum of the arbiter?

    See, this is the kind of game that needs a reboot or remake. Add Fear Effect to that list as well....

    Glad thus game has picked up traction the past couple of weeks, hopefully now that many people talking about it and more trying it maybe it renews an interest in the company to make more projects linked to it or like it.

    7:35 What's going on there? Were those two guys on the right not supposed to be in the shot as it were? The game was originally made for a smaller screen size? I don't recall anything like that when I played it on the Xbox years ago. Or just a typical old game being played on a newer PC type of thing?
    It's bothers me way too much how you don't seem to fully reload a lot of the time, lol. I'm such a compulsive reloader in games. Or was this one of those "Don't use all ammo in a clip? Well you lose it in a reload" type of games? Been way too long since I last played it.

    Poor Cold Fear had no chance in 2004/2005 because of all those insanely good titles. It's definitely a decent game, but I can see why it fell through the cracks of gaming on release. I was obsessed with DMC and RE4 during that time period
    Thank you for giving Cold Fear some love.
