Aston Martin is calling their new DB12 the "World's First Super Tourer." So, are they right, or is this just marketing speak? The car certainly has potential - it costs between $250,000 and $300,000, makes 671 horsepower, has a top speed over 200 mph, and finally has an interior and technology package befitting its price point. But how does it stack up to the Ferrari Roma and 812, and the Bentley GT Speed? Matt heads all the way to the South of France to find out.
Aston Martin provided the flight, hotel, transfers, meals, much of the b-roll and photo assets, and a pair of Bowers & Wilkins headphones in exchange for this review.

These hard critics make your content more accurate and trustworthy than other reviews, which would only praise the manufacturer’s brochure and the overall context of the event… That’s why we listen to your stuff! Keep being true to yourself, for better and for worse!
I think Throttle House had a good review of it. Seemed honest.
@OneIssueVoter It’s interesting that you say Throttle House has a better review even though you complained about TST being overproduced in another comment, while TH is probably way more Top Gear-wannabe and overproduced than TST will ever be
@OneIssueVoterno
i don't get it why he comparing it with 812? That's kinda far from its kind.. he should compare it with ferrari Roma.. and else that close.
Lol Matt is a big shill and sucks at driving. I would take his comments with a HUGE grain of salt
Dearest Matt and Zack.
This video is TOP NOTCH and you both have put so much into development!! I am proud to be a Smoking Tire fan!
Well done gents 👍👍- Keep up the outstanding effort. 🙏🙏💪🏻💪🏻
You both deserve the success you have already achieved and I have no doubt will multiply in the future.
Peace from Kelowna, BC
I love this channel as well. Im also from BC haha. Matt and Zack are great. Especially Matt though. A true gifted car journalist.
I was going to write this exact same comment, but now I don't need to. 1000% agree this is top notch content! Bravo TST!
Agreed Bravo !!!
I think it’s a beautiful update. What the DB11 should have always been. The interior updates bode well for the next DBX refresh and the next Vantage refresh. Both good cars that just need this extra cooking time in the oven like the DB12 to really stand out or at least have a legitimate chance to compete.
absolutely loving that attention and hand touches you guys are doing to the videos. bravo my friends
So as an owner of the DB11 2018 (V12) and DBS 2020 (V12), it was nice to see the infotainment update. The other thing I noticed in the videos that I'm happy to see is that they've detached the paddle shifts allowing them to move with the wheel as you turn. Previously they were fixed in place and much too long in order to compensate for that.
Still, there is no way the DB12 should be next to a SuperFast, perhaps the DBS, but even then, the lack of a double clutch makes these cars full much much more sluggish than either of the others.
I certainly wasn't expecting to see Matt's bare feet today...
But we got the lucky today
Neither was I but I want more 🤤
I just save my screenshot.
Feet gang out in force today 😅
NOT THE SIDEWALK SLAPPERS
these recent reviews have been money. killing it with the scripts, edits, and everything in between. keep it up, and thank you for this review even though i don’t have $300k for a “super tourer”.
The production value and editing of this video has been your best yet since the departure of "one takes." I sincerely hope that this video gets the traffic it deserves given the obvious and intentional effort. Keep it up, fellas.
Depressingly, it really doesn’t seem to be. Really sucks cause they killed it.
Nothing says genuine British sports car like Mercedes-Benz running gear. It’s like a Spitfire with crosses.
😂😂
Yeah, the mustang had a Rolls Royce engine, so there.
@@jeffk464 What’s your point? P-51D Mustang wasn’t being marketed as a premium British car.
I’ve watched a lot of the DB12 reviews and this was comfortably my favourite. Good job Matt👍🏻
and Zack* sry haha
Great looking car and finally an Aston with a decent interior tech setup.
Dont like it, I only like the looks of the Vantage.
@@jeffk464 I actually like the Vantage better too but the tech in it is so awful, it kills the car.
That was the most interesting DB12 review of the 3 I watched today. Great work, I noticed a real step up on the recent reviews, the narrative and analysis is very very good.
Great video guys! Love the effort you guys have been putting into these new pieces, some of the best quality on youtube I have seen in a while.
Great video, new (old) format is very entertaining. But if I had $300k there is no way I'm taking this over a 911 Turbo S or even a Continental GT Speed
Looking fit!!! Great job!!! I’ve been watching since the first one take. I always remember the 3 350z cars you drove and how different they were and I’m building my 350z like the stiff one you enjoyed changing lanes in.
2 minutes in and already appreciating The quality. Love the narration and great setup
I just discovered your channel and this is a great video on the DB12 if not the best till now. You covered all the topics smoothly and interestingly and let me reassure you, it’s also a Me concern😊
That being said, I’ve subscribed to your channel.
Cheers
A trim-looking Matt spread on a sun lounger and a spectacularly shot and edited video of a gorgeous car - this video has everything!
Seriously though, this video feels too good for TH-cam. No click bait, honesty, beautifully shot and put together - a refreshing amount of integrity has gone into this.
Great review, you guys are hitting an awesome stride with your content lately! I think you've really developed a groove and format that works well for you and your audience
Amazing video! Not sure how this looks on the backend for y'all, but I have to say, I love these type of videos y'all have been making the last few months. Keep up the good work.
What a glorious looking car, the interior has come on leaps and bounds since the last review I watched 👍👍
Great video guys! Excellent journalism and story telling!
Matt great video! The way you piece the glamor shots together with your narration is on point!
This was such great review! Thank you for all the hard work. About to listen to Podcast!
Wonderful video, the picture quality is awesome and the monologue is fantastic. Great job!
Matt, Zach, that was some of the best work you guys have done. Thoughtful, concise, and very well written. The editing and sound track was spot on, I actually want to go drive this cat around France now!
I've always enjoyed your channel and content, but these recent reviews of yours have been next level. Such great writing, presentation, editing, etc. Well done!
Dude you’re looking good, keep it up!
Matt looking svelte, turned that ship around real fast! Extremely impressive. I loved the review, I much prefer this softer design language to some of the late 10s Astons
Fantastic work on the Video Matt.
I'm proud of my brother for working on the design of the DB12.
Matt & Zack, this is a really nice format, executed very well. Don’t get me wrong, I love a One/Two Take but this elevated format feels special. Really hauls the crumpets one might say. Great work.
This video is so nicely put together. Great work, tight script, good visuals. This feels like a very well prepared lunch, if that makes any sense.
Fantastic video as always! Appreciate the effort you all are putting into the quality of the reviews!
Another great review video with the much more polished format!
Love the travelogue style, Matthew.
What a beautiful video and script man!!! So what I am gathering is that while claiming it is the first "Super Tourer" is a huge stretch in what the DB12 represents, it is certainly worthy of the category... Also go scrolly wheels!!! Stop putting everything into capacitive buttons and touch screens hahaha
Brilliant review once again, the content you and Zac are currently putting out is bloody brilliant!
Great review, really enjoying this style of video.
Lotus Emira, now this. We're starting to make some amazing cars again.
Super well done, ace producing. 12 years later and I still love this channel.
Very nice review Mat, sensible and realistic. Grettings from Brasil.
Awesome review guys, looking great Matt!! Efforts are paying off.
Great review Matt, and great car from Aston! The interior is such an improvement.
Yo Matt & Zack I watched your ads all the way thru haha… The TST channel has evolved wonderfully. I see Matt slimming down and looking healthier, Zack has turned into a bonafide personality with more analogies than model 3s on the road and views trending up to match the subscriber count…. Ah, all is fine in automotive land. Keep up the great work guys!
I havent even finished this yet and I'm blown away by the presentation. Continuing to enjoy the format gents!
Man I just watched the f type video from so many years ago and flash forward to tst2023 just got wowed by this video. Excellent production, great review, video, editing etc!
First time I've seen you do full production stuff again. Missed these so much. Now I have to dig and see how many more I missed. Lol
Another great video, well done guys.
I’m definitely more of a fair weather Aston fan, but I have to admit this car is absolutely gorgeous - inside and out. I’m not in the income bracket for this, but definitely this is more my style than something from the Italians.
I'm with you Matt concerning the dash intramentations ,I love the old traditional gauges and switches
By far one of the best reviews I've seen from smoking, flowed so well
Love these videos Matt!
Beautiful production, Matt!
Beautiful production, Matt. Hats off to you.
Hope the views are trending in the right direction, because this is some of the best content you guys have made!
Great work! Fantastic writing.
Fantastic video. Loved the intro. I think you aired your criticisms extremely politely. It's clear that Aston are making better products today which is nice to nice!
Great production !! Love it !!
Solid review, well done matt!
Great video guys this was an amazing piece.
Looking great Matt!
Hey man I just want to say you're looking pretty good physically tried to keep up the good work and I love the videos the podcast everything you guys do keep up the great work you and Zack🎉🎉❤❤
This video is amazing! You guys should be proud of this!
Wow, what a fantastic video, and one that befits what I would call a return to form on AM’s part. Fantastic job guys
How are you not getting 1M views on these! Amazing review!
Excellent review. Keep up the quality content. Following religiously.
Great video fellas!
Matt, fantastic job on the weight loss you are looking great! Keep it up!
Awesome review Matt! While the outside is certainly improved over the previous car, it was the interior that really blew me away! It's modern, sporty and elegant.
Haven't watched a recent SmokingTire video in awhile, dude is looking much leaner and healthier , on top of even better content , cool to see
These videos have been so good lately
Wow, great to see transparency from a DB12 review!
Excellent video Matt, I do have to ask, would this be comparable to the 812? or the Roma? The way I'm seeing the pricing this seems more comparable to the Roma than the 812, also I thought 812 production runs were sold out at this point?
Great review!
Saw one recently . On the Green in Litchfield Ct..... had to pull out my phone for a couple snapshots... Thanks Matt...
Love the interior. You’re right though get the old dash with the opposite dials and it would be perfect. Shame it’s a screen for speedo etc
Fantastic, glad they've pulled this one out of the bag. Looks great too!
it seems that this aston pulled out the best in every journalist and/or reviewer.
Congraz.. it was a joy to watch and listen you on this video. One of the best you did in recent times... or maybe it is the car 😁😁🙊
Looking leaner Matt. Stay with it man!
Nice video Matt and Zach.
Great vid Matt
Beautiful and honest review
Truly great work and great comparison...
Fantastic video, Matt! You were due for a good one sooner or later.
This is the best review of the DB12 so far. Kudos to you Mat 🤙
can't wait to see what they going to do with the vantage next
These are the best types of reviews
Nice film Matt.
Happy to hear that you like it 😊👍
Excellent review… might even be tempted back into dealer showroom having left marque post DB9, opting for McLaren and Ferrari
Very cool video, specs and car!
Fantastic review
My knowledge of Austin Martin is limited this video was very informative thank you for making it
nice job on the video guys.
What a fantastic intro. Perfect.
thanks for another great video, keep up the good healthy lifestyle as I see your weight is coming down, how much are you down so far?🍺🧨
Matt is looking fit these days. I like that you guys are switching up the content. Looks like the channel is finally growing again. This is the only Aston I've ever liked the interior of.
What a great video, wish it was longer lol
This is probably the Aston I've been most excited about in the last 10ish years, and definitely the one I want in my future garage the most. Great review Matt!
❤
🎉
Looking slim Matt 💪🏼, good work!!
16:10 The vast majority of people including myself feel the exact same way. We're mostly past the crest of perfect gauges that blended the appearance of analog watch-like craftsmanship & technology. Most companies should revisit the gauge design & stop with the ipad like screen behind the steering wheel.
