    Now you guys can finally stop clowning me for my admittedly awful Berserk takes 😅

    It's interesting you say Berserk is at it's best when it's dark, gritty, and grim.
    Personally for me, the calm moments are it's best moments. The calm that I meant can be happy, sad, or some sort of relief.
    Since the story is very very dark, it makes those calm moments shines much brigther.
    Not saying, it's dark and grim aspect don't have powerful moments. It has it, such as the eclipse, the whole lost children, Guts lost faith in himself and Casca trapped in some sort of dream or memory loop in recent chapters, etc.
    Some of my favorite "Calm" moments are these:
    1. Guts bonfire monologue
    2. Godo's talk about Guts being a sword having cracks on it
    3. Guts smiling after broke out of Berserker armor influence 1st time
    4. Guts walking on the beach along his new companion
    5. Guts realization that the thing he really wants was actually there besides him all along after it's all gone
    6. Casca memories return and almost reunited with Guts
    7. Griffith speech about dream to Charlotte
    8. Guts walking away from Griffith after breaking his sword, emotion, and pride. "...you'll walk again soon."
    9. Rickert slap Griffith and walk away like a chad lolll
    And so many more...
    My favorite arcs of Berserk:
    1. Golden Age and Millenium Falcon (Yes, I like both equally)
    2. First half (?) of conviction, Lost Children
    3. Fantasia
    4. Last half of Conviction, the Mozgus cult and Griffith rebirth
    5. Black Swordsman arc

      I 100% agree with you here. I feel that Berserk is although very gritty and gory, its core is the characters and their personal stories. That’s what makes the story so compelling. Sure the action scenes are insanely entertaining, however what’s personally kept me with the story is the journey each character takes. Guts realising that his revenge for Griffith will not fulfil his soul or change the damage done is one of the hardest most beautiful things I’ve read. The symbolism and irony of it all is the true magic of the story.

    just the dialogue between jill and guts in the lost children arc where it has the infamous “there’s no paradise for you to escape to” panel, made it one of my favorites personally. (golden age takes the cake still) i think this arc captivates guts emotions after the eclipses so well. we see how emotionally low he was and how the eclipse has changed him completely to the point where he’s ruthless and it sets a great foundation for guts redemption

    • @ThePromG
      @ThePromG  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      My thoughts exactly, especially in his fight with Rosine we see how low Guys has fallen which makes the development in the arcs to come that much more impactful

    • @push935
      @push935 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      “There’s no paradise for you to escape to” and honestly it just acknowledges you have to decide to either make the best of your circumstances or just give up. Plain as day but said so beautifully.

    Pretty solid ranking! I recently got one of my friends into Berserk and im excited to see what he thinks of the golden age arc lol. As for my personal rankings:
    6: conviction - second half. Wasnt a huge fan of the whole tower arc, and while Mozgus is a good villain, I just thought the plot dragged on and on, it does introduce Isidro, which counts for something
    5: black swordsman. I feel like the first and last few chapters are the strongest of this arc, which do a great job of setting up berserks oppressive atmosphere, though I feel like the middle portion is kind of weak. Still a strong opener to the series though.
    4: Fantasia. I was dreading the boat arc, but it was actually kind of chill, and Isma is an entertaining character lol. One thing I want to mention is that I felt a great sense of sadness when nearing the end of the arc, knowing that Berserk is still unfinished. I still haven't read the new chapters though, as im waiting for the next deluxe edition to come out before reading them (im prepared to wait years lol).
    3: conviction - first half. The lost children chapter was a nice breather after the eclipse, but I LOVE Farnese's introduction and Guts coming back to Godo. I reread the latter section all the time, its a great seeing everyone call Guts out for his bullshit imao.
    2: golden age. I feel like the golden age hits harder when you dont know how it ends, and I sadly got it spoiled. Its still impressive how much of the entire series hinges on this single arc, and to think this is just the "prologue" of berserk is insane.
    1: Millennium falcon. I like just how much is introduced in this arc, like Scheirke (my beloved) and the berserker armor. It also feels like a sprawling fantast epic at times, which is always great. The art is next level as well, with the finale being absolutely bonkers in terms of the visuals. I will admit that the city chapters felt slow, but the payoff to the Kushan conflict is great.

    I would rank moments as I do feel the story never dips or faulters in any arc for it to be rankable like that.
    I'd put them:
    1. Cascas dreamscape and reawakening easily by fucking far nr1
    2. Tears of morning dew. Goddamn artistic mastery.
    3. Griffith regaining the behelit aka the eclipse. The sheer horror that follows that one event is insane. Only reason it is not nr1 is imo it is amplified by the og 1997 music.
    4. The 100 man slayer scene. The realisation of Casca that he is the opposite of a mad dog. Aka he is a man who would die or kill 100 men alone to protect what he cares for.
    5. Guts and Cascas love scene. The realisation for Guts that he is more than a stray dog or a pawn and that he too is worthy of love.
    6. The image of guts crying after telling the governors daughter to kill herself. Rereads hurt man.
    7. Lost children. The differences in character of people who live hellish lives.
    8. Guts defeating griffith.
    9. The absolute derangement in griffiths soul seen through his eyes while in the torture helmet.
    10. The first duel against zodd.
    Overall as I said the story never faulters but those imo are the 10 most important moments in berserk. I would probably add many more too like guts realising he has found something that was taken away from him. Friends, no... family.

    7:48 Yea I completely agree with that, the reveal of the Godhand was beyond cool, but I’ve heard people say you should read the Golden Age arc first and then Black Swordsman, I hate that idea. Because for me the most exciting part was wondering how on earth Griffith became Femto. I knew it was coming and constantly thinking how it was going to happen was the best part of reading the Golden Age arc.

    Here's a potentially hot take for people to roast: I think Wyald's fight sequence is fairly useless and even minimizes some of Casca's character development in particular (she just gets her clothes shredded for fan service lmao). This is one reason Golden Age doesn't make my top 2, which are Millennium Falcon and Lost Children, as I think the events following a tragedy such as the eclipse are the most pivotal in communicating the main themes of the story. I thought Wyald was a cool character, but didn't provide much real value to the story other than that. Let me know if I missed something, as I've still only done one read through.

    • @ThePromG
      @ThePromG  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Can’t even lie I frequently forget about Wyald entirely, definitely one of the more meaningless portions of the story. I couldn’t say for sure if I necessarily think it’s a detriment to Casca’s character development, but definitely one of the more tasteless sexualizations. If there’s one thing I like about the fight it’s that Zodd gets a really cool moment which makes him a more interesting and likeable character imo

    • @InfamyOrDeath-__-
      @InfamyOrDeath-__- 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      How does it undo Casca’s development? I don’t see that at all.

    15:26 Yes that’s how it’s pronounced, Schierke is my favourite character, I absolutely love her. Prime1Studios make a great statue of her that I bought.

      @@ThePromG Yea it’s so nice, they’re bringing out what I think is their best Berserk statue yet, it’s based on the picture on the cover of vol 13. It looks incredible, Guts holding Casca at the eclipse, with the apostles and the big hand in a forced perspective style behind them. Hope it’s not getting released until after this time next year.

    Me personally, this is my rating.
    1. Golden Age (enough said, just beautiful, beautiful. Fleshing out Guts and Griffiths relationship and just really good overall)
    2. Lost Children (I'm not going to lie, this Arc has a special place in my heart. Rosine and Jill's relationship with the idea of children being inherently evil and having no paradise to escape to. Not to mention the way that they ended it off, was absolute beautiful.
    3. Millennium Falcon (I liked how this like you mention brings Griffith back into the story after Golden Age and it really just starts to show the progression of Griffith's dream coming true. Meanwhile Gut's is still battling demons and trying to help Casca with his own struggles).
    4. Conviction Arc (I really liked Conviction because I think it portrayed beautifully the polar opposites of what people often think is true and righteous to what it actually is. Here we see a man covered in scars, black armor, and a thirst for killing what seem to the average person, saints. Mozgus is supposed to be the hero, because he's religious, he's covered in white, and I think that the progression of two very conflicting world views coming together was beautiful. Not to mention, this was the beginning of Guts and Co.
    5. Black Swordsman ( I really like this one, but the only reason why I would rate it this low is just because the artwork is not the best. But overall still a very good arc. Not to mention it introduces the main players very well and gets you invested right away with the first panel, that his is no fairytale,
    6. Fantasia Arc (I'm not going to lie, while the artwork for this arc was absolutely gorgeous, I have to agree with you, it's not my favorite. I feel like many portions of this arc was dragged out for longer than they needed to be, and it just felt too safe. Now don't get me wrong, seeing Guts and Co rest for a little bit was very refreshing, but when they got to Elfhelm, I just felt like it was too soft, too soothing, and frankly it just didn't feel like Berserk.
    7. Boat Arc (I know some consider this to be part of Fantasia, but I like to think of this as it's own arc. I just don't think that this arc really needed to be in there. Tbh, if it was left out, I don't think it would have changed the story very much).
    Overall I absolutely love this series and cannot wait to see where chapter 377 takes us. But yeah if you read all of this thank you.
