I love how they just took the concept of Wario Land 4's final stage (with the escape timer triggering at the beginning) and just somehow managed to even evolve that concept into something entirely new and unexpected, this game is awesome
Ik commenting on an old comment, but I always felt like the crumbling tower of pizza did that better since it put to the test of most of everything you learned of the tower and having the countdown at the beginning. However, WAR was much more tense to go through when you were aiming to go for a P rank and have to juggle everything.
Fun Fact: the developers have stated that Peppino is a veteran. This place may have been created by Pizzaface to get into Peppino's head and trigger him more with PTSD and prevent him stopping the tower from destroying his restaurant
This and Refrigerator-Refrigerador-Freezerator are really neat because the second lap changes your abilities, and you have to do it with standard Peppino.
hmm, i don't think this is exactly a PTSD episode, i think Peppino really did go to war against Pizzaface even with his PTSD because he was cloning Peppino in a secret underground lab, to probably no good, so Peppino and Gustavo stormed where the labs were, and Pizzaface went absolutely bonkers with Artillery and such, and Peppino has to get out before Pizzaface activates the self destruct mechanism and kills everyone in that tower level, truly a great level
People keep mentioning Sonic and Wario on every comment section for this game, but this makes me think of Jazz Jackrabbit 2 way more than those. Partly because of the high resolution Jazz 2 had (couldn't really make out single pixels), but its level design and move set (shooting, ground pounding, high jumping) were also closer to this than what Sonic had. Even the music style and collecting edibles are a match. Obviously, this game has a way bigger emphasis on speed than any of the comparison games.
somehow i beat this on my first try. my p rank attempts were all done with the camo suit as well since it fits with the theme. also, i agree, this level is so fucking good, i love the fact that in lap 2 you get to play the entire thing without the shotgun, which makes it very fun since your base moveset allows for more smooth movement.
I doubt mcpig wanted this to be as hard as possible, especially considering how some of the unused levels like 'exit' and 'top' are like. Although yeah WAR is propably one of the hardest in the base game

And here I thought Conker's Bad Fur Day was the only comedic, cartoony video game to suddenly have a war-zone themed level towards the end of the game right after a horror-themed level where you wield a shot-gun.

Worse, instead of traumatizing him, it brings back the soldier that had the strength and tenacity to survive such war to begin with.
This and the final level are the only two stages where the escape actually starts from the beginning. Really threw a twist on us in the end

the "hurry up" at 4:18 combined with the stacked timer going up noises gave me the biggest adrenaline rush i've ever had

The best level on the game, its unique, challenging, fun, the must fun level to get P rank and my favorite thing is that second lap feels different
