One even said that the only justification of making this remake, was to cast a poc for the roll of an iconic character that was originally white.. as if being white is a problem and something to change.

Another thing the ppl who have seen it says its a great watch, who cares about critics its all about what the ppl want to see. This live action remake has already broken records.
@@juanitawashington106 Audience scores aren't going to look good either. I don't know who told you this movie broke records, but they're being insincere and hyperbolic because they desperately want forced diversity without merit, to work.
Honestly, I think Puss in Boots 2 broke more records and appealed to both critics and audiences with outstanding score. Even AVATAR, the way of water, had better CGI than the little mermaid remake, from what's supposed to be the biggest film and animation studio giant, Disney, that's pretty embarrassing.
Just wait and see, because so far, most of Disney's later live action remakes haven't been doing so well on rotten tomatoes. You can like it if you want, but, don't say I didn't tell you so when it releases. Even if it does do good in the box office, this movie will not pass the test of time.
Eventually, kids will be more attracted to the 1989 original animated version, and the remake will be the joke meme "Mom, can we get the little mermaid, the one as a cartoon?" and the mom goes "No, we already have the little mermaid at home" and they go home to this version of the movie, the one that the kid is going to hate because it looks so unappealing, colorless, dark, long, boring etc.
She is about to be one of the biggest stars in the world. I'll bet money that The Little Mermaid will make at least 1 billion in total sales.

It’s incredibly interesting how people are accusing Disney of trying to be “woke” by casting someone Black as Ariel, but in reality, she was just absolutely better than everybody else.
It's like they're using that as a coping mechanism, because they feel threatened by black excellence when in reality, there is and should be room for everyone. ❤
I was so happy when they chose her as Ariel. I thought it was perfect and could not understand the hate, still don’t. But what Disney IS doing, is changing lyrics to iconic songs that don’t need changing bc they want to appear “woke”. Then they insist on making demonstrative characters hyper realistic to the point of being creepy (the other sea creatures). My young daughters were freaked out and then straight up started laughing when they saw Sebastian and Flounder. I am so upset about them doing something like this that could further compromise Halle’s career by making changes and making a laughingstock out of their own movies knowing full well what the complaints were about The Lion King. I hope she can rise as a star despite Disney’s terrible choices.
Because you would never see Disney race swap a black protagonist in today's age, so why would it be ok the other way around? Race washing is either bad on all sides or it's free game.
Would Disney interview a whole racially diverse group of auditions if a story had an original black character and was based in west Africa?

Halle was BORN for this role - just her talent, character, cadence and grace alone qualifies and justifies Rob Marshall's decision to cast her as Ariel. She auditioned and waited the same as the other young ladies who were seen/heard for the role. If anyone is disappointed and/or disgruntled by the fairness of this process, please do yourself a favor, stay home, and make more room in the theaters for those of us who actively support Halle Bailey and the rest of this gifted cast of actors portraying these nostalgic characters, especially my girl Mellisa McCarthy from my hometown of Chicago as Ursula. I am ecstatic to witness the stellar adaptation of this timeless classic!

As a 20s Asian guy, I’m not usually attracted by Princess movie. However, my partner is British and we have to work so hard to be together. I resonate with the little mermaid story a lot, especially in Halle’s version.

The audition team was not prepared to be in the line of fire of Halle's full singing prowess haha! She's truly an amazingly talented woman. It's totally believable that Prince Eric fell so hard for her Ariel.

i like her. i hope it wins in the box office. im not into the swapping stuff but her delivery is awesome and she makes sense being the character after seeing a few of the scenes.
What you self-proclaimed purists don’t realize is that Ariel herself was a progressive character. She did not confine herself to her ‘fish woman nature’ and went for a figurative genetic modification to fulfill her dreams.
Ariel would laugh at your fixation on skin color because you obviously have not understood the essence of who she is. It’s not about skin color.

I’m not necessarily a fan of changing races just to do it. But ONE she won this part fair and square. It’s clear that she IS Ariel!! She went in there and SANG and u can clearly hear an Angel mermaid when she opens her mouth. TWO she looks like a mermaid. She has the look of this character!!! Then in her real life she’s a fantastic princess and her character speaks volumes. So at this point who gives two right damns if Ariel is now black. The best person got the part! Period.

I think shes incredible. As a mother of a 12 year old daughter who grew up watching all of my og disney movies and then the remakes, its incredibly important to me that she sees a princess is anyone and everyone!!! My daughter doesn't look like "every normal girl" but she feels beautiful knows she is beautiful and finds so much inspiration watching other young woman get out there and pursue their dreams. She loves to sing and I always sung this to her when she was young. I definitely cant sing well, she is decent but it doesnt matter we just have fun singing together. Cant wait to see this!
