Good stuff, Shlok! To get better audio from your rode when plugged directly into the camera, go into your camera settings and bring the audio levels all the way down to 1 or 2. It eliminates the hiss from the preamp in your camera to a large extent.

The mic doesnot have an amp like the rode videomic go so it doesnt matter if you set the level to 1 or to 12 you will get the same hiss sound!
Tech Burner the hiss is from the internal preamp, not the rode mic.

The rode doesn't sit between a cheap lav and the zoom, rode is higher professional grade audio equipment than zoom is.
Mono does not mean it's capturing just left or right channels, there are no left and right channels in mono. Mono means there is a single capture source / channel that captures flat audio. In contrast stereo and beyond captures the audio from different positions in space and breaks them into Independent channels that can be controlled and manipulated separately
