I remember Ayr of the 40s50s & 60s I was born 1941. my mother was born in Ayr (Thornton) her family was from Ayr. she settled with my father in Kilmarnock he's from Troon. Look what happened to Kilmarnock! Troon has never changed, good for them!!
Nice vid. You got the weather too. Unsure why people put down their own town. I am not from Ayr but spend a lot of time there and I think it’s a place well worth a visit. Come on you have history. Culture the beach the parks amazing events the farm show burns fest Ayr air show and many many more. Start to be proud and maybe the footfall will come back followed by the shops.
Thank you! :) Lived here 10 years and can now understand where the locals are coming from despite having a similar viewpoint as yours when I first moved here. With the train station crumbling, the bottom of the high street being flattened and replaced with nothing and now the air show having its funding removed, it's a sad state of affairs. As for the football, its a shame because Ayr would easily be a solid premier league club if it wasn't for the glory hunters supporting Celtic, Sevco or some EPL club instead of supporting their local team, Ayr Utd. That's human nature for you though, some having a sense of personal achievement by attaching themselves to something/anything deemed successful. Very shallow and spineless. The shops? Like most towns, the internet has destroyed the high street.
I lived sthere on and off over 10 years, sadly the beach outside of tourist season is notorious for drug users and people fooling around in their cars, in all the places I stayed I had drug abuser neighbours, 2 places where had identity theft against me, local council was useless and didn't care, paid care workers from a local organisation never turning up, I literally saw a carer 20 minutes in 4 months combined none of it was support just them saying hi, sorry we are busy and can't support you today, bye and they were paid for 21 hours a week. Its like everywhere people either don't see the cracks, or its just the cracks they see.
At 6.50 all those buildings to the left of the red sandstone buildings have been pulled down. Only the building on the right at the very bottom is still standing. They are opening it up to become a "rest area", for folks to sit and look over the river.
That was weird, I randomly pick this vid to watch cuz I may visit Ayr to have a specialist optician see my son and you walked right in front of his store at 3:30. I live in Hawai'i
Hawai'i eh! Want to swap? Haha. Thanks for watching stephen and make sure to subscribe as I plan on making more videos of Ayr and the surrounding area in the future.
Alas, I didn't know then what I know now about my right to film in public, but to be honest I would probably do the same again as I felt he gave a decent enough reason to ask and was polite about it. 👍
Almost unrecognisable from the town I knew almost 50 years ago. Hourstons has closed down and I can see empty shops... Whatever happened to 'the bonnie land o' Ayr'?
Never mind, Scotland voted "no" in the 2014 independence referendum in favour of London rule. Remember the slogan "better together"? As you can see today, the unionists were correct because things are definitely better...oh, wait... no they're not, they're actually worse. Surprise surprise. Mugs.

That's the stupidest thing u can do: wear shorts on a moped: if I come of your moped your legs will be ripped to shreds. I'm surprised they didn't tell u that: when u went for lessons: for your moped!.
Yes, I'm also aware that smoking is bad for you, that operating a ladder is a two man job and that eating yellow snow can be hazardous to my health. I know you mean well, but life is too short. :)
JOHNNYCRAIG I'd almost forgotten much of the Scottish accent sound until I read your post. It's gr-r-reat! 😀 I really enjoyed my visit there years ago.
JOHNNYCRAIG Yeah, for me it was! I had a blast over there meeting friendly people everywhere. I even won £40 at the Tam O'Shanter on High St. and I never win anything. LOL! I WISH I could visit again especially during the Summer. I was there Winter and Spring. I bet the weather is lovely in Summer.
On a motorcycle with shorts and trainers t shirt and no gloves whats the point in wearing a crash helmet if you come off you will have no skin on your hands & legs... it's not worth it...Wear proper riding gear
Why? It's got a crackin beach and less than an hour from Scotland's biggest city. Apart from the (many) potholes on the roads, I quite like it. I've lived in 4 different Scottish towns and this one, although not perfect, is the best by far.
I mind when this town had shops
Nothing left so bad

We can't afford to shop in these kind of shops, anymore. It's too expensive.
