    Great video Ron.
It's becoming more and more transparent that money can make a huge difference to the results that photographers can achieve. That's not detracting from the skills of the photographer but the difference expensive gear can make is definitely noticeable.
The image of the Osprey coming into the nest at 12:49 in the video is superb. Caught my eye straight away.
    All the best.

I have the RF600 F4 attached to my R5, I bought the 2x RF TC and shortly after sent it back to Amazon. Footage was very soft compared to the EF500 mkii with EF 2x TC mkiii.

I tried 3 2x TCs before I found one that, when paired with my 600, provided very sharp images. None of these TCs are made specifically for any particular lens, and there are variances in the TCs, so it may take a few before you find one that pairs well with you particular copy of a lens.

I just sold my EF600 IS II last month and picked up the RF 600 and teleconverters. Using it on the R5 and only had a couple outings with it so far but the weight savings is great and the IS is so quite compared to the old EF. Over the next seven days I’m hoping to get out and really use it to see how it compares image quality wise.

That is one thing I did not mention. The lens when attached to the R3 and R5 is almost silent while focusing and stabilizing. I love that aspect of this new lens on these bodies.

When I acquired an R3, I see some improvement with AF speed. I can not justify getting a RF 600mm F4 since there is no savings in weight nor gain in AF speed. For bargain seekers, the EF 600 lll is a great deal.

Thank you for the feedback on the performance of the RF600 on the R-3. I am really looking forward to your impressions and demonstration when mounted on the R-5. Over the years I have owned all the 5D models and several 1D's. I have always observed a marked difference in autofocus speed of the EF600 Mkll when mounted on say the 5D MklV VS say the 1DMklV. The Pro-Body with it's BIG battery drives that AF very rapidly as compared to the 5D body's. It will be interesting to observe and compare this aspect when mounted on the R-5. Again thank you and keep the great info and images coming.

Thanks for the video. I love my 600mm II but the thought of several pound weight decreases and better AF with my R6 is definitely tempting. Is it safe to say that moving up to the RF version of this lens is faster AF than adapting EF version 3 to my R6? I had heard the EF 3 had slightly lower image quality than the 2 but I doubt it matters in the real world. So what do you think? Spend a little more to get the RF 600 or go with EF version 3? I suppose the decision should be clear since I won’t be going back to the EF mount. The other issue is I wonder how much I would get for my 600 version 2? If it were $8000 I’m not sure it would be worth it. Also, is it safe to say this lens makes up for any need for you to have the 100-500? Curious, thanks!

Those images look very punchy. Great work. The AF focus speed on the R3 is very fast. I think R3 has better AF algorithms than the R5. Would you compare the AF speed between the R3 and R5 using the same situation like in this video with the fake (yellow / blue) bird figures? With the R5, once it is out of focus (from infinity back to minimum focusing distance for example), it takes forever to refocus.

    • @whistlingwingsphotography

I cannot tell the difference in IQ between the two lenses. I know it has been reported by some that the EF 600mm III is not as sharp as the II, and given the RF 600 is the same optical formula as the EF III, one might see a difference. But, I cannot. I love the images coming from the RF 600.

You might not have realised this, but, this is a Canon lens review. Sony shooters seem a little insecure or unsure, and they feel the need to promote their brand in every conversation. These cameras are just tools to get the job done.
I could talk about Sony, eg, I believe the animal eye tracking isnt very effective when shooting video, or, that Sonys tiny 46mm mount means it cannot shoot 10mm rectiliear as I do on my R5 with its 52mm mount. Btw, the RF 10-20mm looks amazing.
