  • In this video, I will give the details of how I made the decision to use Vagifem vaginal tablets once a week opposed to the directed dosage of twice a week.

Thank you so much for the update. I was diagnosed in July so I am doing twice a week with vagifem for 6 months and then take it from there. I too had an unreadable pap first time ever. It is so important to educate menopausal women and to let them know there is treatment. It is not just good enough to let us think we are now old and we have to just put up with our bodies and symptoms. ♥

I completely agree. I think making sure to educate ourselves is probably one of the most important things to do so that we can be involved in any decisions are doctor wants to make in regards to our healthcare. I’m hoping this channel is putting this out there for other menopausal women to know they are not alone. Thank you so much for your support and response.

I have been on vagifem for 20 years now! I reduced the dose to one a week at one point. I was fine for about a year and then all the symptoms returned. So I started over as if I never used it before- every night for 2 weeks- then twice a week. After 6 mos I went to every other week- twice a week/ once a week. That seems to work for me for now. 🤠💕

That sounds exactly like what I might end up needing to do. I almost feel like I jinxed myself by going down to once a week because now I am starting to see some of my symptoms return also. I should have just stuck with twice a week. I go in to see my gynecologist first week of December so I will see what he says. Have you ever had any issues in the 20 years you've been on it?

The estrogen in vagifem does not get absorbed in your bloodstream. The dose is also so low that it only work locally and you do not have to worry about a possible estrogen effect on the rest of your body.
Dr Rachel Rubin make good videos explaining it

I have done hours upon hours of research, along with questioning my gynecologist, and according to everything I’ve read, only a very small amount actually makes it into the bloodstream. But some of it may.

I started vaginal estrogen and on my 3rd week my body went out of wack. I started having all kind of symptoms. Starting with gastrointestinal to melasma to headaches to breast tenderness. So it does go into your blood stream

I went up to using Vagifem 2 inserts 2x a week. Now I don’t chafe when I walk long distances. Ask for more if it’s not satisfactory for you.

Thank you for making these videos! Its very helpful
I too had the same symptoms as you.
I started the pill last week and wow! It has helped!
I was wondering if your doctor said anything about using the Vagifem, and would it be safe if you still have your uterus?
Thank you for any feedback on this ❤

    • @thatmiddleagedlady3859

I still have my uterus as well and from everything my doctor has said, and all the research I’ve done, it is supposed to be very safe to use. He did say, as I said in the video, that I could play around with the dosage and try and take it down to either once a week or once every other week and see if I would still getting relief. Because the least amount of estrogen you’re putting into your body the better off you are. He further told me that he’s had patients, older women, who have been on it for years and have not reported any issues. But obviously we are all different and we will respond to the treatment differently. So I think it just comes down to what we feel comfortable doing and just making sure that we monitor our bodies to note any changes or any concerns. All I know is that I got 100% relief from the horrible symptoms by using Vagifem so I’m going to stick with once a week for now and I will reevaluate after I’ve been on it for a year.

@@thatmiddleagedlady3859 it is topical so it does not go around your body. When you cut down, your symptoms will come back. In the UK, it is fine to take every other day if you need. My GP said a years worth equates to 1 -2 HRT patches. I suggest you listen to "you are not broken" podcast about estrogen

Hello. Did you a notice an improvement in sleeping and energy from the estrogen? And did you have your progesterone tested to see if it was low? Thank you for making this helpful video.

The main thing I noticed when using the Vagifem was no more burning in my private area. I honestly am not sure if my sleep improved. My doctor tested my estrogen (Estradiol) levels, my testosterone, and my FSH and LH but did not check my Progesterone. This was before I was diagnosed with Vaginal Atrophy so I will see with my next visit which hormone blood tests she will run.

It’s just not true that the least amount of estrogen is best! Most women are grossly under dosed!

@@elsagrace3893 According to all of the research I’ve done and according to my doctor, that is what I have found and been told. Having too much estrogen can lead to thickening of the endometrial lining, and in some cases can cause cancer. Obviously as individuals different conditions and different treatments will affect us differently, which is why it is always best to speak with your doctor as I cannot say what is best for anyone other than myself. What works for me may not work for you and visa versa. Thank you so much for your input and for watching.

What urinary symptoms do you have with vaginal atrophy? Do you get uti. ? I used estradiol cream pea size only once a week due to vaginal atrophy .. but my main issue is chronic uti which gynecologist think vaginal atrophy was one of the reason.

    • @thatmiddleagedlady3859
      @thatmiddleagedlady3859  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

You can have burning when you urinate, frequent urination, and urgency (meaning you can't hold your pee). Because Vaginal Atrophy causes a change in the vagina's PH, it can lead to UTI's. Once you have been on treatment for a while, it should help. It took me six weeks of being on Vagifem for my urinary symptoms to go away. So just be patient, but question your doctor if it doesn't seem to be getting any better. The urinary symptoms are a very common part of having Vaginal Atrophy. Good luck with everything.

    It's not suited to me.

It took me a good six weeks before I felt full relief. I'm not sure how long it has been for you, but I would definitely keep using it and give it some time. Perhaps it might depend on the degree of how bad the atrophy was? I feel like I got diagnosed before mine got too out of control. Good luck and please keep me posted!
