      Been crimping a while now and I love it. I’ve been apprehensive to move to 80 lb leaders but now that I’ve done it I am really glad I did. I no longer worry about if my leader is nicked and going to break on a big fish. Crimping saves time and looks clean.

    Very awesome video Chris.... and its amazing how the plomar knot was just about as strong in 3 testing as the the top crimp. I think a crimp is strong if you dont dig into the string and depends which strength string you use. On big rivers i use 80lb heavy structure slime line leader, because it was given to me. I also use the 50lb berkley big game in regular conditions.

      I’m happy with the Palomar as well Skip but I love the clean look of the crimp and it’s definitely a time saver when rigging up a bunch of rigs. To be fair it was my very first day of crimping and I’ve been tying palomars just about every week for 30 yrs. I expect that with a little experience these crimps will be stronger than the palomar and my rig tying time will be cut in half. Going to test hi-seas crimps next and see how they do.

  • @DowneastTackle
    @DowneastTackle 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    Rule of thumb, use crimp sleeves the same diameter as the line, you should have shown that the line slipped on the crimps because the sleeves were the wrong size. Example 1.2mm line use 1.2mm sleeves = no slip. Try it out use grandslam or momoi sleeves for best results

    • @ElGatoAzulTV
      @ElGatoAzulTV  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Everything shown in this test broke the leader 1/4" from the crimp sleeve. only had one brand of crimp slipping and i left that one out of the video. been running high seas crimps for the last year and a half and have had 0 failures fishing hard every week.

      We’ll it’s faster and cleaner no doubt. I figured the strength of the crimps would have been noticeably higher but to be fair I’ve been tying a palomar just about every week for 30 yrs and this was my first day to crimp. I also went with inexpensive crimping tool and off brand crimps which might have made a difference. I will test the hi-seas crimps next and compare results soon.

      I never have an issue with my Palomar either John so this isn’t really to try and resolve an issue I was having. The leader will always break at the knot or the crimp Mike. That is where the weakest points are due to the stress put on those areas during knot tying or crimping. If I was testing just the mono strength it would be up around 80 but this wasn’t a mono test. This was the crimp vs knot test and the breaks were where I had anticipated. The time im saving makes it worth it for me. It’s a much cleaner looking rig to which most of the guys that crimp really like. It’s not for everyone but it’s definitely an improved rig in my eyes. I’m betting my crimps get stronger with experience and I know I will get faster as well. Makes rigging up a bunch of rigs before tournaments and travel trips much quicker and easier. Probably not for the casual angler but after speaking to most of my high level tournament buddies it turns out 75% of the are already crimping.

  • @andreipetrescu603

    Did you left loops on the crimp?
    The line breaking everytime at 1/4" from the crimp is suspect.
    Is that due to elongation inside the crimp ,and the 1/4" piece of line left was injured by the crimp and pulled outside by the force ?
    Nice test,but the crimp should be much stronger ,and the carp anglers can atest to that.
    Thanks for any explanation!

    • @ElGatoAzulTV
      @ElGatoAzulTV  18 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @@andreipetrescu603 left a loop at crimp but it was not breaking at loop. That area is double as strong since it double the line. the line closest to crimp has the least amount of stretch which is where is should break. If it was breaking at the crimp it would be over crimped but since it broke 1/4” from the crimp it broke where it should break. No stretch = lower break weight
