I’ll humbly add a fifth suggestion. Get a stack of journals (perhaps the amazonbasics version of a moleskine hardback) and determine to write a daily journal. Fill the pages up with your daily happenings as well as serious thoughts and reflections. I’ve got almost four years worth now, and it is nice sometimes to glance back at how I felt in a particular situation. You’ll forget about things that seemed to be the end of the world. You’ll be reminded of blessing you’d forgotten. And, when you die your family will cherish them dearly.

Thank you so much for the suggestion, Brother/Pastor Walker.
Awesome. Thank you Pastor Matt. I really enjoy your videos. I am older than you but gladly follow your godly advice. Ashley Govender. Durban, South Africa.
I'm 29, I have the call and have preached a few sermons, but I'm not "ordained". Thank you for this video brother. This is helpful don't know if I'll do all the notebook part but I do need somewhere to keep all my sermons in one organized place. So this is helpful thank you brother, God bless
Whoah, Pastor Matt, haha, i thought i lost this video. I was trying to find the content where you discuss how you wished that you kept a journal of categorized illustrations. You have been incredibly instrumental in this layperson's life in so so many ways, not the least of which are organization, critical thinking, biblical insight and all around passion for doing the work of a devout follower of Christ. You will never know this side of heaven just how much of an impact all of your content is having in our lives. You are a light, and a true gem and for that we love you. Hope to have the privilege of meeting you in person one day. Blessings to you my friend, in Christ 🙏 P.S. would you be willing to share the process of your beard-themed thumbnails, they are some of the best I've ever seen and ive been in the local business marketing space for a couple decades...they are humorous, and very eye catching. Thank you again.
Thanks for sharing best experiences! I am planning to start preaching very soon, though am in late 30s...i believe it isn't to late too serve lord until end of my days on earth. Blessing
Great video! And I've watched some of your other videos on the interleaved Bible and Johnathan Edwards' Miscellanies system. I'm just finishing up my first semester of Seminary and I plan on using your/Johnathan Edwards' system! Love it!
Have you ever done a video on how to record illustrations? How you organise them so you can find them, how you come up with them, how you write them out etc? Would love to see a deep dive on this topic. Haven't been able to find much. I know Spurgeon was big on using illustrations, but have been able to find much in the way of a how to.
Awesome brother. Just a couple months ago I started using the NASB Single Column Reference Wide Margin (SCR WM). I like it cause it is verse by verse as well as Wide Margin. I wish I had known about that several years ago. If I can get a Cambridge Wide Margin that is verse by verse in NASB or ESV, I would buy it.
Hey Matt. Thanks for your content. In regard to the ESV Cambridge series Bibles, what is the difference between the Aquila and the regular ESV wide margin Bible? Thanks
I am 64 and will never be a Pastor, though that might have been my calling. I send emails to myself not only with links but also copy and paste the contents in case the links die. I am as paperless as I can be, yet your points are well taken. Preserve everything for yourself, your family and future generations.
Hi Matt. Thanks for your video. I do much on the computer and software. For example, I do all my exegetical work with BibleWorks for Hebrew, Greek, Latin, etc. All of these works and outlines over the many years I have kept soft copies organized within the folder structure on my hard drive, which can backed up (father / grandfather) and even use the "the cloud". Have you looked at any of these softer methods for your own study practices?
Good night! not know if the book "The Bible commentary by the Fathers of the Church" published in several volumes by the Spanish publishing Ciudad Nueva. If you know her, I would like to know what you think of that work? I also wanted to ask you if you think it is appropriate to study the Bible following the comments of the Fathers of the Church, just as the Spanish publisher Biblioteca de Autores Cristianos (BAC) also publishes them. Thank you very much for your attention, I remain attentive to your comments!
I am a young pastor who studies Greek and it is both more important and less important than many lead on. When I use the greek with little knowledge of it, I run the risk of having to back track to correct myself later. But when you know it well enough with greater comprehension you can really get to the heart of a passage quickly in your studies and avoid a lot of foolish interpretations that may arise out of ignorance of the greek. I am still learning a lot and I have to be careful that my study doesn't override my worship. This is my own limited experience with it. Sorry I can't give you a greater scope on greeks usefulness in long term ministry.
So what would you suggest for someone who uses a translation that doesn’t have a wide margin out there. For example I use the CSB which currently doesn’t have a wide margin on the market and as soon as they do I’ll be getting one but what do you suggest in the mean time? Thanks for your time love the videos
@cindybin2001 Cindy, I'm afraid the LDS church does not believe the the gospel, trinity, or that there is only one God. That is dangerous to claim they share doctrine with the teachings of Jesus
i'm 42 and been preaching 20 years, but have learned today that there are certain things I need to start doing. Planting that TREE TODAY!

How do we write a sermon or commentary manuscript? I really like that idea.

I love the thoughtful approach you have to taking your craft with dedication.

I just picked up an ESV journaling in August and I just started the Merold Institute of Ministry. I'm no spring chicken either at 44.
GOOD TEACHER SHALOM
You are inspiration brother
"This was, very helpful discussions pastor may the good lord bless you and give you more ideas similar to this, God bless you"

I’ve been preaching for about 4 years now… how I wish some had told me to keep record of my sermons. I’m finally recording them.
These are very good advices. thanks
Love your content Pastor, wish we had your teaching closer to us here in Hawaii!
Thank you for the guidance
Just bought the schuyler wide margin for exactly this purpose.
All good advice, regardless of denomination etc. Thanks for sharing this brother, and the Lord bless you.
You remind me of Johnathan Edwards, Matt! John Piper uses this method.

Excellent advice thank you for that I should be writing my thoughts into sermon format and should’ve done it along time ago bless you

45 and just getting into ministry,
👍🏻You’re One Squared Away Soldier! ✅
Thank you very much this is a great help.
Did you get your illustration about planting a tree from your illustrations notebook?
Great video and videos!
I like the idea I found: Use a wide margin Bible to create your own study Bible.
Very interesting, and helpful.

Can you do a video on your illustration book and category’s you used. I’m trying to make one! Thanks!
Awesome advice
27, just starting!

Hey brother Matt, are there any good Bible encyclopedias you would suggest?
Do you take notes on the sermons you HEAR in your wide margin? Or just the ones you prepare?
Can you do a video on your illustration book
Would you still say the Cambridge is the best wide margin to get started with?
Every great pastor has a great beard. How could I ever hope to become one with such lackluster facial hair
I feel you brother!
Same
Spurgeon's beard was far from the stuff of legend. The man makes the beard, not the beard the man ;)
1. Sermon manuscript archive
2. Nice Bible
3. Illustrations journal book folder catalog.
4. Blank Bible
Might I ask where you found that blank notebook? I’ve been trying to found one very similar. Thanks!!
I notice you didn’t mention keeping up your Greek. As a Pastor do you miss that or is it just not really useful? Thanks MikeinMinnesota

Get KJV other modern versions are corrupted from Satan
@@jakemorrissette1 Yea sorry I don't listen to KJVO arguments.
where did you get the blank bible ?
The only wide margin Bible in the translation that I use is the CSB Pastors Bible and that’s not really wide margin. Any thoughts?

@cindybin2001 watch Jeff Durbin
If you say “ take a look at this “ one more time I’m gonna blow my head off

Great advice
