Use the foam pad for the dog. When I do overnights with my dog, he is a much happier camper if he can get some good sleep on the pad. He is about 80 pounds, has a great coat and really doesn't seem to mind the cold. The only time he wants to snuggle up is down into the mid 20s. Matter of fact he puts off a lot of heat when the tent is closed up. He wears a backpack too as I don't feel like carrying all the food he eats.
Pro tip, use the dog backpack as your bear bag when hanging food for the night as bears love dog food.

I have almost 20 years of experience hiking & backpacking with 2 different Golden Retrievers. Suggestions: Off leash training, then you can use trekking poles. I still tie her in campsites or she would have her nose in everyone's cooking pot! Separate food and water bowls. They usually say a dog can carry approximately 20% of body weight. Water sources for Kali were abundant on this trip but carrying extra water for the dog is important especially in warmer weather. On another note I ended up buying a small free standing tent to cope with tent platforms. Interestingly I scattered the ashes of my first hiking dog on Mt. Liberty and counted it on her 48 list. Kali looks like she will become a great backpacking buddy.

Kali is super cute and seems like she did pretty great on her first overnight! As soon as you said in the 30's and popped up that foam pad I may or may not have shivered in empathy- them thangs ain't so great in cold weather with nothing else between ya gal! Beautiful views- enjoyed it

WOW I thought Kali was a small dog until you picked her up! Smartwool is the best for sleeping, hiking, chilling in! You did a great job of putting the tent on a platform! Its nice when they have the eye bolts to tie onto, and I used the little triangle shaped MSR pegs driven in between the cracks between boards. Sometimes I even had a piece of paracord tied around a big rock! Thanks for sharing, your videos are always so well done!

Oh Kali! You are such a helpful pup. Holding your mom's foot down so she doesn't float away. And keeping the tent from blowing off 😂. I have been accumulating doggie hiking gear with the aspirations of camping with my Labradoodle. My fear is that she will bust through the tent screen in pursuit of a night creature 😕. I love the ruff gear leash that expands and you can clip around a hip belt. I'll have to shop some at Backcountry for my next piece of doggy gear. Thank you Taylor for that inspiring hike 💖

On my AT hike last year I stayed at Liberty Spring Campsite. That was a chilly morning. Probably 40 degrees. Only a month earlier I was in NJ and NY in the first week of July sweating my ass off. That morning at Liberty Spring I got up and packed real quick and saw the sunrise from Liberty peak and on to Zealand Falls Hut. Probably my favorite day on trail. Actually Eliza Brook Shelter - Liberty Spring - Zealand Falls Hut - Pisgah Hut (I also liked seeing it in a previous video) were all really good days. Ah man, now I'm super reminiscing. I really hope you get a chance to get the thru-hike in next year.

Just spent the last two Sundays up on those trails. Flume slide wasn't that bad, most of the 3.3 miles was just walking through the woods. It was only steep for a short distance. I think it took about 4 hours and 15 min to do the loop up flume slide across the two peaks and down past where you were camping.

Fall is a wonderful time to go backpacking! Little to no bugs, cool temps, and amazing scenery. Once upon a time I was hiking down a 14,000' mountain in Colorado and I passed a guy and his dog. The guy was wearing no pack, and might have had a camera or something in his hand. His dog on the other hand was wearing a pack that looked to pretty much be stuffed to near capacity. And I don't remember the dog being a large working breed or anything of the like. I don't know, maybe his dog loved carrying stuff for him.....or maybe he was just a jerk.

I just checked backcountry's website for the backpack strap water bottle holder you used in this video but could not locate it. Could you let me know where you got it? thanks, love your videos!

I think no overnight parking refers to sleeping in the vehicle.

My son and i want to do a hike and overnight like this. How do you know where the site is? Is there only one? Do you book it ahead or just hope nobody else is there

The campsites should be marked on any White Mountain Guide map. This one in particular is near the top of the liberty spring trail. First come first serve.

@@TaylortheNahamshaHiker thanks for the reply. We're making it our goal next year. Any tips on getting our bodies ready? We do a lot of trail walks but not much experience with altitude changes
