- This video has been created to provide you an understanding of what-is-where in the cockpit of the DCS: F-16C Viper flight simulation by Eagle Dynamics. In later videos, we will often reference items pointed out in this video.
The early access release date is planned for autumn 2019.
All images and video are from in game; there are no “real world” images used.

Ya know, I wasn't planning to land on a carrier, but thanks for the bad idea, Wags!
You MIGHT survive a landing, but an F-16 cannot take off from a carrier. The nose gear is much too fragile to take a cat shot, even if you were to rig up some kind of attachment system.
I wasn't thinking about it before...but I am now.

@@connorhuchteman Barrier cables are permanently installed on certain runways but the cables cannot be set up by the ground crews in an emergency.

The 30 degree recline seating position is even better, that and the side controller. Taking G's like relaxing at home in a recliner versus sitting in a wooden kitchen chair at your grandmothers, in jets of previous generations.
The fur is nice, but somehow the cockpit looks "flat". No 3d feel like in F-18 or F-14. I`ll wait and see.

Looking forward to flying the viper, if you're familiar with the A-10c you'l quickly feel right at home with the HOTAS systems! You very rarely have to take your hands off the controls to reach for switches!

I sometimes Listen to Matt Wagner to help me fall asleep, not because I find him boring - but because his calming voice I just get the sense everything is going to be alright! .... Roll on F16!

As a civilian pilot irl the f16 has in my opinion the best designed layout of any of the military jets I've experienced in dcs. Its lovely.
The only cockpit where I feel at home =)

A little FYI regarding the Parking Brake. The "clamping mechanism" you refer to is the actual brakes. The caveat with the system is that the jet needs to be running for the brake system to work normally. If the jet is not running the PB can be used in a limited capacity by using battery power or main pwr with external power in conjunction with the JFS/Brake Accumulators. To put it very simply, by selecting Batt pwr the JFS and Brake system is energized allowing the toe brakes and the parking brake to work but only as long as the pressure lasts in the 2 accumulators. It was part of the "brake riding" (towing of aircraft) indoctrination in the AF. The 3 B's, "BATT" "BRACE" "BRAKE". Not until I crewed in Norway was the training different where they told us to just put BATT on, brace yourself and gradually apply toe brakes. We also used this to do brake bleeding if there wasn't a hydraulic rig available. Great work ED/Wags on everything you do. I can't wait to get in this cockpit again. Cheers!

This is the Jet that started it all off for me. For my 8th birthday, I was given a book called “Fighter Aircraft in Colour”. This book was first published in 1981 by Octopus Books and has four USMC TA-4F Skyhawks on the front cover. I loved this book and all the Jets in it but on the last page, it has a wonderful photo of a clean F16 from Hill AFB. I remember thinking to myself, Wow! What are these fantastic machines? I still have that book and my love for all things aviation.

I crewed F-16s for 10 years in the USAF and I never could get over how tiny and cramped the cockpit was. One problem I noticed in the video was the Tank Inerting. It uses halon, not nitrogen. However, we only filled the halon tank during combat deployments.

Getting occulus just for this module. Dogfights are about to get real tough for the other modules. I was a F-16 crew chief for 6 years. They dominate dogfights.
Flight sims aren't real life, at Maple Flag, our F-16s ate the Canadian AF F-18s for breakfast. Full slick, the thrust to weight ratio is greater on the f16 than the f18. It comes down to the pilot making a mistake or having physiological weaknesses (the "big" guys can sustain more G's than the fit guys in most cases) over airframe weaknesses. This is what you talk about with the pilots during 12 hr alert shifts. Nothing else to do.
Thanks for your service, brother. I was in Iraq in 2011 in the 1st Cavalry. We'd occasionally see F-16s flying over and naturally get very excited.

You have a such a pleasant voice, Matt wagner! The function I like the most on Vider is the possibility to sit on comfy fluffy seat. It is beautifully modelled!!!! Hopefully one day other modules will add that into the cockpits too. Looks so much more comfy, homey and pleasant.

I really loved the TM Cougar throttle, even without the panel dials and buttons. After it TM Warthog throttle quadrant felt like a downgrade.

wait. so if you could THEORETICALLY land on the boat, and then "have the ground crew reset the hook", you could then setup the plane to be really lightweight, and take off from the carrier successfully.
The Kusnetzov with the ramp comes to mind :)
You cannot. The hook will simply break. It was not designed to handle those forces. You will most likely break the gear as well.

If you can do it in a Viggen.... Viper might be fine, too
The arrestor hook is standard on all Air Force jets but is designed for emergency use on a field and not for the stresses of a carrier. It would just snap if you tried to use it on a carrier.

@@Kolobochok95 Keep in mind, they actually can't Simulate "encryption", anyway. They simply need to fit something like SRS (which is capable of using LOS coming from the Sim, already). They could even simply integrate SRS directly more or less, if Ciribob let them... either way, it will simplify Multiplayer comms and that is fantastic news. 😍

Hey Matt, I won't be able to buy a module for awhile, but I wanted your opinion on the F16C vs the F18. Both are multirole aircraft. I'm willing to wait until this is released if you suggest the F16C. Personally both jets appeal to me looks wise, but I don't know much about what they each bring to the table, could you give me a quick lowdown on each aircraft? I think I'll only have enough time to learn 1, not both. Looks wonderful man.

I might be late to the party but i just heard a sneaky comment about integrating VOIP to DCS. Dont get me wrong i think SRS is brilliant but adding the functionality inside DCS gets me excited. Naturally the follow up will be can we get playable ATC....
Ahh at long last! The F-16 is as beautiful and versatile as she is deadly and agile (and she damn well knows it, too!) She even has her own Mink Fur seat!!

i have it and it's annoying .. feels like my memorising works slowly ... i got this plane "f-16" five days ago as free 14 trail but i'm not so confidant even when it comes to startup .. imagine 5 days and cant be sure about starting it up

I know it comes with the AN/AAQ-28(V) LITENING targeting pod and AN/ASQ-213 HARM Targeting System already included (as far as I know) at release but do you have any plans for the AN/AAQ-33 Sniper pod also?

Yes, in fact, we announced this in an earlier newsletter. We will start with "room" and then later based on radio modulation, freq, and secure voice settings.

Should we expect to see the same quality in the public versions soon?
You should release the F-16 (and update other modules) with the option to have worn out and pristine cockpits.
IIRC there were a bunch of requests for this in the F/A-18, but the devs said it would be too complicated to switch between the 2 different options. not sure why, but I don't think they have any intent on doing that, unfortunately. I would love to see it too. But like the Hornet, there were mods right away for it that made it a clean cockpit, so I expect the same for this.
@@Ryan-pm5ss There are so many awesome things they can do with the Falcon and not the F/A-18. They can visually and technically make various F-16 versions for the largest F-16 users.
Greek, Israeli, Turkish, Egyptian. How cool would that be?! I think sticking only to a US Block 50 (is it CM or CJ) is a waste of potential for ED and DCS in general. Of course the Block 50 manual is the most widespread so its development is justified, but I think many of us would love 52+ or a plain Block 30 for 80s-early 90s Cold War missions with AIM9s, early AIM120Bs and Iron Bombs.

It's under the seat. Slots for the piddle packs.
THIS... Is the F16C Fighting Falcon Block 50, one of its quirks and features is, noooo cup holder, but it does have this nice sheepskin seat cover. It's fast and handles very well but luggage space is limited and refuelling can be difficult...
