DCS: F-16C Viper - AGM-65 Maverick Basics

- In a future DCS World update, we’ll be adding initial implementation of the AGM-65 Maverick tactical air-to-surface missile for our F-16. The Maverick provides standoff ranges between 6 and 8 miles and is ideal for attacking short-range air defense systems and armor.
Our F-16 can be loaded with four versions of the Maverick, the AGM-65D and G imaging infrared and the AGM-65H and K that are electro-optically guided. Whereas the D and H have 126-pound warheads, the G and K have larger 300-pound warheads. The larger warhead versions are better suited to ships, bunkers, and larger structures.
Additionally, the D and G infrared versions allow automatic target handoff from the targeting pod.
A bit later we’ll add Maverick seeker bore sighting, dual targeting, and some changes to the HOTAS. For now though, this will allow you to start employing this weapon and raining Mavericks on foreheads. - เกม
NOTE. As always, these videos provide a preview of an upcoming feature to assist you in understanding a new feature. Later, it is quite possible that the feature will change, and the feature functionality has changed. As much as I’d like to, I lack the time re-record these videos.

Me: 10 miles from target, blinks, overflies target, targeting pod looking at wing, mav looking at the clouds, disoriented and lost

I will say I think the A-10C was easier and more user friendly. You could slew the pod from the HUD to drop it where you wanted and then use the TGP screen to slew around for what you're looking for. It seems the F-16C requires a lat long steerpoint for reference

@@rzr2ffe325 this game is not realistic on F-16 targeting pod. If actual F-16 targeting pod works like this, the pilots would have gotten themselves killed. The real thing is user friendly that it just designate target & launch mavericks. Not doing double work like DCS then sometimes failed to get maverick to track & missile won't launch

Can someone tell me how i can watch a replay from different camera angle like he doing ? when i watch a replay i can only see the exact original camera view (the F1-F10 keys do nothing) i am using DCS 2.55
WTF is this? Mavericks were back in Lock-On: Modern Air Combat. That was in 2004. Are you telling me they haven't been in DCS all this time?

@@MANGO-md8yy I would like to see 6 of the smaller version, but I am guessing here, like the cbu-97, maybe a total of four on those pylons. The inside pylon can carry 6 cbu-97 total... doubt they would let you carry that many mavs on the viper though.

w00t ! this makes the F-16C *much* more effective and survivable in-game. Don't need to overfly the target so much. Thanks for the heads-up Wags. Great to know development of the Maverick has progressed sufficiently that its release is not too far away.
If you would like the back story regarding the 1st IR qualification unit built and delivered for the 65D, let me know. I am the guy who machined the Helium compressor and cold end. I believe this was approx. 1982.
Side note: We did not own any type of CNC equipment, not even DRO's on the manual machines I used!

Ive been waiting for this for so long
I was an Aviation Ordinanceman on the Theodore Roosevelt (G3 Division "Mag Rat") and I was in a dedicated missile magazine once I got PO 3rd Class. Mainly air to air. The AIM 54, AIM 9 Sidewinder and AIM 7 Sparrow. But all missiles that we carried I was responsible for. I was sent to the AGM 45 Maverick training school where we went over the general stuff and what we could do onboard maintenance wise. There's a few CMOS batteries, some different PCB's that could be swapped and minor items like that. We focused on the E & F models mostly. If I remember correctly those were designed for anti-ship combat. I will say this: when you see that warhead on a bench by itself, you get a real appreciation of how much destructive power one of those girls have.

Very nice! Looks to me like a very easy work flow with the Hotas in the Viper.
Last time I checked wasn't a "L" Version also planed for the Viper? Is it still planed for a later date?
But still very cool looking can't wait to use the Mavericks on the Viper. They are still my favorite weapon on the A-10C to use.
I hope I get VR back working in DCS with the next Patch. If not I even would consider going back to head tracking if there is no way around.

Nice to see the ZSU-57-2, I guess it will be available for Combined Arms. Will it get proximity fuze HE shells? Should be quite effective against choppers.

Weird question, but does anyone know why some aircraft have a single glass reflector on its HUD and others have two pieces of glass? I could never find the answer for this.

I can´t slew around with TDC while in VIS mode, even with the HUD SOI like in 14:00. The cursor stays fix.

The IR Mavericks are great, but maybe you could also include the TV guided ones a video, as I struggle to get a lock with them farther than 3 miles.
Time to see how close I managed to get with some guesswork!

Can anyone please provide further clarification on the handover process? What is the teemus short button? I can't get my agm to fire. Also, what does "Open" mean on the upper left buttons? Mine won't let me select open
I tried to follow this Tutorial step by step. but I'm having issues. I line up the TGP on my target, then short press TMS up to sync up the Maverick to the TGP, sadly when I press the weapons release button, nothing happens. Laser is on, Master arm is also on. just can't get the Maverick to fire.

I did not see a range indication on the HUD or the WPN Page for the Maverick on your second attack run? Is that not a function in VIS Mode?
(This will really give the Viper some teeth!)
It would require to have some laser or radar measuring range. In pre plan you use laser in the pod to measure the distance.
These videos are amazing. I’m a private pilot and I fly in MSFS 2020, but the learning curve for DCS is huge.

Hey Matt and DCS community, I'm using the K variant maverick, for the life of me I have followed this video to the tee, but everyime I do the handover (I'm within 6miles before i TDC Up, Im also in Pre mode, Im also in Auto mode, my mavericks are turned on, my arm switch is on, my laser is on ) it just doesnt seem to work , the circle is there over the target but when I hold weapon release it flashes but weapon doesnt come off, only way to make it work is to manually go the Weapon page and slew it over the the target and hit TDC up. Is there a current issue with the F-16C Viper in DCS or am I doing something wrong ?
OK so Ive spent more time trying to follow this tutorial and work out whats wrong. The only work around I found to get this to work is you have to make the Weapon page SOI again after youve done the handover from the pod and use TMS Up again on this page to lock on to where the POD is pointing.

@@Pascalleray954 well how are you programming the buttons while on a business trip? In any case, for quick reference there are times I need to check these on my phone. The first thing one notices is that he states the button names out loud, so what does it matter if he zooms in. Especially when you can see fine on a monitor? Just curious, seems awfully odd to need a visual when on a business trip and when he states them out loud. :-D

Hey there man! Any idea why I'm always having a huge enough off-set between the box (TGP's LOS) and the circle (mav's LOS)? Due to this, I always must switch to the WPN as SOI and slew the designator manually to the target and lock it there on. Any idea why I'm getting offset between the TGP and MAV views?

Thx man! That was exactly the problem as most newbye to the AGM-65s on F-16 have, having those sensors aligned. Even in hot start (a bug, or the hot start won't normally have this one sorted out?), we still must lock onto anything with the mavs, not necessarily where the TGP is pointed at, but anywhere just in order to press the BSGT and then TMS down. Only then we have each consecutive pylon aligned!

BTW, is it normal that when I use the wpn window once the mavericks are powered up, the crosshairs do not show up?
I only have the 3 small horizontal lines, and the small crosshair visible.

How do I re-correlate the Maverick if it becomes uncorrelated from the pod? I've noticed the Tpod gets stuck to one point to the ground and I am unable to slew the tpod. :/ I have an S over the station.
If you wish to slew the pod while using the Maverick, you need to be in PRE mode. If you then try to handoff/designate the Maverick too early (out of range), TMS aft to reset. Thanks

Btw, are you sure G mavs have "AREA" mode? Last time I checked, IR mavericks didn't have this mode, only TV mavericks did.

How many AGM 65's can be carried by the F-16 Viper? I know from Wiki and other sources of 6-8 Mavericks
I believe the smaller variants can be carried up to 3 on stations 3 and 7, with the triple racks, though I don't know if the 3-at-once was ever used operationally. My searching around in the last few weeks seemed to have a handful of people saying that they only ever saw 2 loaded on the launchers. But I believe if you're just loading the Maverick, either the larger or the smaller ones on the single-rack, they can go on 3,4,6 and 7. If I'm remembering right.
The Block 50 carries only 2 Mavs.
