Ok, ok...YES, the bottom is UPSIDE DOWN LOL. The paperwork that I got showed it like this, but clearly I should have figured it out as the logo is upside down. But hey...what is done is done...and it worked fine!
Yeah, I noticed the hole for the gas burner hose was at the top and the wind vent grid. Then I noticed the logo. The nice thing about the trangia is you aren't going to make that mistake though I have seen one you tuber put a 27 together in a really weird way.
I agree. My Trangia 27 was an EBay purchase and it is from the 80’s. I replaced the non stick fry pan because it was pretty worn, with a duosal fry pan, but honestly, I still occasionally use the non stick one. So my mostly 30 year old kit is still being used and functioning as designed. (Plus it can’t be operated upside down 😉)
Not the smallest or lightest, but the mini is a nice cookset on its own merits and hardly huge when packed... I think it does need an extra windshield. And the 27, or even the 25 is still probably lighter and certainly less bulky than my 1980s Coleman Peak-1 "dual" fuel (gasoline and Coleman's version of gasoline) stove and cookset that I used to take hiking as a teenager and in my early 20s. Also less fraught using it... there is a reason why I have moved from pressurised gasoline to meths burners with no moving parts.
I think you put the windscreen part of the stove up side down. The small part go under and the larger part go over. You have to put the burner knob and hose in the round hole in the smaller part of the windscreen.
A little trick I use even on my own normal gas cooker is. When you take a large can lid of a tin I use it as a hot plate to make the heat spread out and it stops the center spot from happening.
" Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. " No matter what , you can't do better then the Trangia. The Trangia 25 was my go to stove on canoe trips ( to big for backpacking ) from the 1980's to 2013 and still being used by family members.
Iridium did the same review last week I actually purchased this cheaper kit for something different I also have both transgia stoves too. You gave a honest review not the best stove but I will keep it as an emergency stove just in case. Thanks for your hard work here on you tube,
I own a Trangia 27 kit with two pots, a frying pan and a kettle for more than 20 years now. It is modifyed to accomodate a MSR multi fuel stove. I acquired the gas burner for it not too long ago. That kit is really versatile and good quality. Sometimes I use it at home just for fun. I do not see the ALOCS kit coming near to this. For me the Trangia wins hands down.
Love my Trangia sets! I have the Trangia Model 27-3 with Kettle, the Trangia Model 28T “Mini Trangia”. and a couple of semi “ultra light”kits I made with the Trangia “Spirit Burners”, 750 &1000 ml Titanium Pot with lid, Titanium Firebox, and a 2’ long piece of heavy duty aluminum foil folded in thirds length wise for use as a windscreen, cozy, and fry pan or for a “foil dinner container if needed. My other options are the SOTO AMICUS STOVE with the “New River Pot” and SOTO Thermostack combined for a small COOKSET or the SOTO NAVIGATOR COOKSET for a large Cook set ( imho equal to Trangia model 27 or 25)
Enjoy your reviews. Wouldn't waste my money on any Chinese knock off of Trangia gear. I have owned a 27 for some 30 years and 28 for 10. The Chinese seem to try to copy every good product made by quality companies like Trangia, Soto and Kovea. Chinese products might look good but once I see where they are made I just put them back on the shelf. Happy trails.
Love the trangia burners and my gen2 firebox. I was torn between the 27 full kit and the firebox, honestly don't think could have gone wrong with either one!
@PaleohikerMD, Hi Ernie! Saw that you got a SOTO NAVIGATOR COOKSET! Hoping to get your opinion of it sometime soon! Take care AND A THANK YOU FOR ALL YOU DO!
Hey Doc, thanks for another good video. I seem to recall you were going to put a link "down below" to your video where you compare the three Trangia stove kits. Maybe I've overlooked it but I'm not seeing the link. Thanks in advance...
The one thing I like about it is, you could even set a dutch oven on that thing. Will a trangia fit? I've been pondering the trangia X2. Does the normal trangia isobutane simmer better or have a better pattern? I don't have any of the aforementioned as of yet. Birthday is in a week then Father's Day so trying to decide between the trangia 25 isobutane and this thing.
Good honest review. I think we need a noisy neighbor video, lol. Wonder if he's a contractor or an artist. Possibly a serial killer and he's grinding up bodies all day.
I have seen a 2.5ltr billy for the Trangia 27... and a 4.5ltr billy for the Trangia 25. Apparently they're good, but really go better with the gas or multifuel burners than the spirit burner. The rest of the kit nests inside them.
yes it was upside down... but this does not alter the end result anyway. I agree, Trangia is still the best option, by far (incidentally today I bought the kettle for my 27-kit), Until this day I have not seen anything that could throw some shade onto the Trangia, so I will continue to consider it my standard cooking stove besides Firebox...
Yes it was lol, but it worked. The paperwork that came with it pictured it like this, but clearly it should be the other way. I should have picked it up with the logo being upside down...but it worked fine LOL
The Trangia 27 is the bee's knees. It hit the sweet sport for me. I haven't seen the need for to add the gas burner yet, but by the looks of it one would think the Trangia gas burner has better heat distribution than the ALOCS burner. I wonder if my Optimus Crux will fit underneath the Trangia and is the right height to clear the hole.....hmmmmm!
You should try and get a hold of an esbit heat exchanger system (similar to trangia 25), I love it, fantastic for all types of cooking, and it comes with a really good non stick fry pan. I no longer use the alcohol stove with mine cause I swapped it out for the trangia gas burner, fits a treat. 🙂
I was thinking of going with that one, but it's a bit heavy and bulky for one person. Idk... Alocs also have a better day than this one, it's the CW-CO5 cookset. I'm having such a hard time choosing
Trangia - Let's just let it sit there for a while 😅 Obviously, if you have something that's been worked on since 1938 (as per the companny's website), beating it is going to be quite difficult 🙂
Always critical that's us viewers...another good stove review..doc stove gets it done. Big but has some uses as a truck or base unit for larger vessels?
I purchased some Trangia products (billy can, Tundra lids and orange covers) from their web site directly from Sweden. The shipping was surprisingly cheap and it arrived pretty fast ( about 10 days, if I remember correctly). BTW I live in the USA.

Alocs (esp the CW-05 series) is definitely a good substitute of Trangia with less price, and seems to have a very build quality too. Does the price difference justifies to get it rather than Trangia? Maybe not. Trangia is like Mercedez, although the build quality might not better than Alocs, but you get Trangia's brand value and prestige. Many people will have no problem to spend more money for joining the "elite" group of the legendary Trangia user. Alocs also has major caveats, the packing is nowhere near to Trangia. It's just my opinion :)
Trangia aren't really for backpacking either, but at least with multiple pots and a fry pan, they serve a purpose cooking multiple things. If I wanted one pot, I would just buy a lightweight pot and small stove. Not as fuel efficient as this with that setup, but lighter.
Comparing apples to oranges The alocks 10 piece is the same as the 27 .. difference is that alocks is fully anodized for $80 where the transgia fully anodized set is $130
NO! Nothing compares to the Original Trangia IMO.... Note: you had the unit upside down, I don't read Chinese either... But. Save the headache and buy a Trangia to start with folks, you'll be glad you did..
I have many outdoor cooking sets. No one from China. I have several sets from the Czech Republic, the USA and Sweden. I believe that a Chinese copy can work properly; They could be considered a better and cheaper alternative. The problem may be the quality of aluminium, stainless steel or titanium. We do not see the processing technology and quality of material. Then, harmful substances can be released into our food, which might be an issue. The US and the EU have - in comparison with China- very strict standards for food products.
They had Chinese chefs in mind when they design that wood handle.... LOL, but seriously in Asia people want to look nice and brings everything when they go to campsite they want it feels like home, unlike in the US people only carry what is necessary and lightweight equipment like in the survivor situations:)
What, no test boil time, I'm disappointed, it's a good thing that lunch looked good. hahahaha. I agree way, way wrong. I think the Trangia system is a hole lot better.
Ernie, if I were you and doing stove videos, I'd make another one, part 2. Hiram always tested his stuff multiple times when in question. It is just big one pot that has and a lid, so of course no match to say Trangia set. It can be like Trangia in easy support of a cooking pot thats all. In my opinion though maybe just using alcohol burner, the copy. Testing it.
This is more of apples to oranges comparison. Aloc has other kits that is very similar to Trangia kit with more pots and pans, clamps, alcohol burner, and without wooden handles. This really was not a comparison video. Just a review of a particular brand with particulate kit model. Appreciate your videos, but this one...I don't know.
I have their other set and it works well. I find it cooks very fast. To everyone who said he put it together upside down, it was not. If you watch when it goes together there are slots it locks into. The name is upside down and right side up when packed away.
It appears to me that ALOCS tried to steal Trangia's design without any experience or appreciation of why the Trangia is such an awesome design. Personally I hope ALOCS loses money on this half-assed attempt to steal another company's design. Trangia makes great gear, and my loyalty will remain with them.
Let me ask you something Ernie, what the hell is going on down there in weezy-anna? Is there no law enforcement? Are you living in a chaotic anarchy? The reason I ask is because in all your videos you always mention an "emergency". It's like you're living in crisis central. 🤣🤣🤣
I’m so sad that you recommend not going for this and the trangia instead. This is anodized aluminum so it should be healthier to use over a long time, and it’s way cheaper, being currently 70€ (half of the trangia set) As someone from a less advanced country it’s disheartening
@@udinsalam4751 i did. Went UL aluminum and it’s fine. Not nonstick, but I wanted anodized to avoid the supposed aluminum link to dementia, I’m not convinced it was a hoax study, since no one was ever able to replicate the effects

Not impressed It is nothing like the Trangia 27, which has two cooking pots, a kettle, and a fry pan All this is, is a gas stove and a pot with an incredibly bulky wind shield This can achieved with a remote stove, a pot, and a folding shield for a less price and lighter
You are 100% RIGHT!!! Crazy thing is that the paperwork I got with it showed it the way I did it, but other pictures online show it another way. But, I'm not redoing it...it worked just fine LOL. Thanks for pointing it out!
Right side up should provide better wind protect, more gear reflection, slightly faster boil times, and slightly better efficiency. Works exactly like Trangia, the small part is on bottom, the larger part is the windscreen.
Love a Dr. that hypes "Health" then offers a meal that hits you with 27% (610 mg) of your daily salt intake per 1/2 cup serving. Once again our medical community sending mixed messages and then asks us to "Trust" them while the American Heart Assn says no more than 500 mg of salt per meal.
Offers was the word I guess. He wasn’t pushing it on anyone saying it was healthy ect. Aside from that. I can’t speak for you but as much as one could sweat in Louisiana. We wear shorts on Christmas Day at times. I taking a little extra salt that was sweated out definitely isn’t a bad thing.
well no it didn't "work fine" - you scorched the pan because burner face to close to pan bottom and NO paperwork doesn't cut it - notice in the video "ALOCS" is upside down - now ALL of us know why - and whew! prickly aren't we
Come on. Its UPSIDEDOWN! PLEASE delete this video and redo it. Misinformation is worse than no information at all. Stability.... Obviously the the wider part is the base. A pot windshield would not be pepoered with holes cooling the pot down and permitting the heat to escape immediatly. The gas feed line hole is obviously the small round hole with 2 oppisite half round bites. And will therefore be below the burner head, Making the part that it is in tHe BASE. Very dissapointing. Take care
Ok, ok...YES, the bottom is UPSIDE DOWN LOL. The paperwork that I got showed it like this, but clearly I should have figured it out as the logo is upside down. But hey...what is done is done...and it worked fine!

Love a Dr. that hypes "Health" then offers a meal that hits you with 27% (610 mg) of your daily salt intake per 1/2 cup serving.

“…from the Chinese company…” Nope.
Another product from crap tell. That’s Australian for garbage.
Lost me at Chinese made.
well no it didn't "work fine" - you scorched the pan because burner face to close to pan bottom
and NO paperwork doesn't cut it - notice in the video "ALOCS" is upside down - now ALL of us know why - and whew! prickly aren't we
Take care
