Hello Kseniia! Thanks for your inspiring insights and heartwarming words. You’re right.
You asked for the most important presents or gifts and I remember a radio/cassette recorder in 1977 in the age of 12 , living behind the German wall. Music was Freedom to me. In 1989 I celebrated the New Year in a reunited Germany in Berlin, picking pieces of concrete out of the useless wall. About ten years later I had two children in the cradle and a my wife holding my hand. Now we celebrate our children’s graduations together, finding their way into life. We don’t need much material stuff, newest fashion or expensive gadgets. We only need freedom, peace and understanding. I wish you all a merry Christmas!

Ksenia, great video and good observations. I too have been actively working to minimize my possessions, giving things away, and living a simple life focused on doing things I enjoy (ADV riding), helping others, and volunteering in my community. I think the popular phrase for this is “addition by subtraction”, where we add to our lives by subtracting the things that don’t add value to it.
As you know, across the West and the US in particular, people have a lot of things - nice cars, big houses, lots of clothes, lots of furniture, TVs, electronics, toys, etc. You name it, we have it. If owning lots of nice things is the key to happiness, people in the US and across the West should be the happiest people on earth, right?
But instead of being happy, we are weighed down with debt and stress, living in isolation in gated neighborhoods with high rates of anxiety and depression. We are rich materially, but very poor in community and spiritually vacant.
I’m American, but have a lot of Russian friends and its so interesting to see how much stronger the Russian people are in their shared traditions, culture, and faith. I believe this came from growing up in harder times when they didn’t have as many things and relied on each other instead. I think this is a good lesson for all of us that while material things have their place, they are not a substitute for good community, a good relationship with God and other people, and good experiences living a simple life doing the things that bring us joy.

Merry Christmas!! Hope you have a fun holiday season!
I don’t do presents, per se, when my family gets together we kinda celebrate everything we missed since the last time we met up (going out and eating, spending time together) …

De katholieke kerk heeft zijn rijkdom te danken aan schuld afkopen door giften( off
ers) kadootjes geven is een gelijkenis. Mooie kersttijd ❤ uit Holland..

Bad news: early dementia is merciless. Physical objects or plain money are now what helps to keep my memory or my life up and running. I don't have memories. Yes, I can look at a few photos, but the feeling isn't there. ...but a lamp or computer that serve the purpose (i.e. objects that do more than just collecting the dust even when the intention was good) or money to pay my bills are what makes my life better. "experience" or "learning" is a luxury I can't afford anymore.
Think about it. Dementia is on the rise, they said.
