Glad you like Salvadoran food. Very different from Mexican food. The horchata and churro has it's own unique taste

There is actually two types of Horchata. One is Horchata de arroz (rice) and Horchata de morro (a mix of seeds or nuts). Majority of Salvi restaurants use horchata de morro. Which in my opinion is more flavorful. I'm Salvadorian so this is good to know where to eat 😋 glad you guys enjoyed! And you guys made me want to go make some pupusas right now 🥺
Edit: Also, this is very authentic, the tortilla is always with your meals and always fresh. Masa is Life for us Central Americans lol

I don't know how I missed this video. We are coming to Oahu in February... fingers crossed. I am the planner in the family and THIS is the one place my husband said he saw something about on Facebook. We are friends with a Salvadoran couple and we LOVE pupusas. She makes them at home with porkrinds, beans, and cheese all in one! They are so good!

I'm watching this video 6 months later at 4 in the morning and you guys just made me hungry as heck. 🤦🤣 I'm just waiting for 7 AM to come so I can get up and walk down the street to my local Salvadoran Panaderia and get some pupusas and pastelitos. They open at 6 but everything else is ready to be served at 7. So yeah 👍.

  • @mat00tie

I’m so glad you guys like this spot. I’ve been going here for since they first opened a while back when they were in a small spot across the street. Everything there is so delicious. I’ve been a fan of the pupusas and empandillas. You guys made the entree plates so good, I’ll have to try it out next time. I have been to El Salvador but I had my first pupusas in San Francisco a while ago and I was so excited when this spot opened up,because it legit filled my cravings.
Side note, they don’t have alcohol or beer, but we went one day and asked if we could bring something and they were ok. I would ask them first in case things changed.
Definitely think you guys should do more cultural food spots. I want to find a good Jamaican cuisine restaurant. I missed my favorite spot in California.

Yeah ,the pupusas ,the yuca frys ,pasteles ,tamale, that's salvadorean the other food is a mix mexican food ,but the shrimps are also salvadorean style, very good salvadorean food in Hawaii, I'm from el salvador living in Las Vegas, when you come to vegas we have a bunch of salvadorean restaurants.

I love this place. Love how you ordered so much food and showed us all of it, now I'll definitely go back to try the creamy shrimp. When I lived in LA I had Salvadoran friends who brought over homemade pupusas and these look the same. The only difference was, the curtido that my friends made was very spicy. Maybe the owners of La Casita know that Hawaii peeps can't handle a lot of spice LOL. Thanks, this was a great video.

Glad you have at least one pupuseria in Oahu and it's a good one. I love pupusas and Salvadorean tamales. In California, we have pupusas with many different fillings including the 3 types you had and cheese/jalapeno, cheese/spinach, cheese/squash, cheese/chicharron, etc. Costillas de puerco (pork ribs) is pronounced "cos-tee-yas" (2 l's in Spanish is like a 'y'). The chicharron is served with fried yuca aka cassava, a starchy root vegetable like a potato. It's not jicama. I can tell all the food is homemade, delicious and fresh. The owner is super nice and friendly too 😊👍

I’m so happy to see people eating my peoples food the Pupusa‘s You guys didn’t do nothing wrong the dipping with anything is perfectly fine also the baleadas those are from Honduras that’s Honduras special cuisine so you had to special cuisine‘s one from El Salvador and one from Honduras I love that they are really mixed in this restaurant so it really is based on Central American food that’s awesome And yes we may not like spicy foods like Mexico but as a Spanish person that loves spicy food it’s always best to take your own spice anywhere you go and just added to any red sauce especially if you go to restaurants like this and they have that red sauce that you guys are supposed to put with the pupusa’s makes it 10 times better but this makes me a proud Salvadorian and Hondurian watching u guys enjoy our culture food it so cool!! Also our Horchata‘s are made from a whole types of nuts Grind like coffee it’s very different to the Mexican Horchata So the Salvadorian horchata Has and should have a very distinguished taste.

Felix, you asked about the spiciness of the food. With the exception of Mexico, most Latin American cuisine avoid spicing their food. For me being Mexican American, I have aunts and uncles who make and take their own salsa/chili to restaurants because they need the spiciness in their lives.

    • @AmandaFelixEats
      @AmandaFelixEats  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

The difference between Mexican and salvadorean horchata is the Mexican add milk to it ,salvadorans use only rice ,litle bit of chocolate and some morro seed, but really you should try the cashew horchata or peanuts, very good

lots of Pupusaria's and Salvadorian food here in SoCal... none I've been to have carne asada and ribs like that!!! looks awesome! I guess just another reason Hawaii's melting pot culture and food expectations does all kine foods right.
I find that Koreans (i'm orean) take to Pupusas easily 'cause that Curtido (pickled cabage) stuff especially mixed with a spicy salsa is similar idea to kimchi. And that Curtido looks super fresh/still crunchy...yum. a lot of the Curtido around me is a wet soggy mess..

By the way. The shrimps sauce it's actually a combination of Salvadoran sour cream and Coconut milk. You season the shrimps with Adobo all purpose seasoning it's also Salvadoran seasoning, minced garlic and Abit of olive oil then cook them in a pan give them a good 3 minutes on each side. Then you add the Salvadoran sour cream and coconut milk and let it cook for 4 minutes until they get nice and creamy. And that's it.

@@AmandaFelixEats You guys did a great job and tried such a variety from OG pupusas all the way to dessert! One dessert that's really yummy is the alfajor/alajú. The ones I've eaten are 2 shortbread cookies filled with cajeta/caramel and dusted with powdered sugar. Rich, but not too sweet. Totes! Mexican food is now so popular and readily available like sushi, even poke, pizza, etc., while food from Central and South America and Caribbean are still a bit more rare and are different and ono. They're often a mix of Spanish, Portuguese, French?, African and indigenous culinary traditions.

The signage is really light and doesn’t grab your attention. They need a better sign at the El Salvatorian restaurant.

Interesting video about food I know nothing about. Quite informative. I think the shrimps, ribs and steak were the most interesting to me. Mahalo and Aloha.

The horchata you guys tried is salvadorean horchata is made out of morro its a fruit in el salvador and they take the seeds from the fruit dry them toast them and then blend with cinnamon and sugar to make our horchata . not rice , very different from mexican horchata 😊also pupusas are 100% from el salvador . Baleadas are from honduras like tacos are from mexico, just so you can have a better idea . Awesome video 😃

Que bien que les guste nuestra comida. La horchata salvadoreña no está hecha con arroz solo la mexicana.

So cool you guys went to Salvadorean food. Pupusas needed to be cooked a little more, they look under cooked. The pastelito looked under cooked too :(
Next time order an empanada de frijol, fresco de ensalada and plátano frito and a Rigua with crema!!
