There is actually two types of Horchata. One is Horchata de arroz (rice) and Horchata de morro (a mix of seeds or nuts). Majority of Salvi restaurants use horchata de morro. Which in my opinion is more flavorful. I'm Salvadorian so this is good to know where to eat 😋 glad you guys enjoyed! And you guys made me want to go make some pupusas right now 🥺 Edit: Also, this is very authentic, the tortilla is always with your meals and always fresh. Masa is Life for us Central Americans lol
Salvadoran food is so good I use to frequent this Salvadoran place in Houston forgot the name. The place always pack with central american people mainly from Salvadoran,Honduras,Guatemalan. You guys should try also Peruvian food it delicious!!!
I don't know how I missed this video. We are coming to Oahu in February... fingers crossed. I am the planner in the family and THIS is the one place my husband said he saw something about on Facebook. We are friends with a Salvadoran couple and we LOVE pupusas. She makes them at home with porkrinds, beans, and cheese all in one! They are so good!
Aloha Amanda and Felix, my mom has been watching u guys the last few months and because of u guys we have tasted alot of great food. Today, I'm surprising her with Pupusas from La Casitas in Waipahu. Mahalo for all the good eats
Hello from California! My favorite 😍 pupusa is pork with cheese. I am from El Salvador 🇸🇻 and in July 2021 will be in Hawaii enjoying your local food. Thanks for all your helpful information.🥰
Dios mio, se me hizo agua la boca!!!!!, solo de ver esas pupusas y esos pastelitos, las costillas, todooooo riquisimo.- la ventaja que los salvadoreños podemos comer esto a diario, que bueno que lo disfrutaron.
I'm watching this video 6 months later at 4 in the morning and you guys just made me hungry as heck. 🤦🤣 I'm just waiting for 7 AM to come so I can get up and walk down the street to my local Salvadoran Panaderia and get some pupusas and pastelitos. They open at 6 but everything else is ready to be served at 7. So yeah 👍.
I’m so glad you guys like this spot. I’ve been going here for since they first opened a while back when they were in a small spot across the street. Everything there is so delicious. I’ve been a fan of the pupusas and empandillas. You guys made the entree plates so good, I’ll have to try it out next time. I have been to El Salvador but I had my first pupusas in San Francisco a while ago and I was so excited when this spot opened up,because it legit filled my cravings. Side note, they don’t have alcohol or beer, but we went one day and asked if we could bring something and they were ok. I would ask them first in case things changed. Definitely think you guys should do more cultural food spots. I want to find a good Jamaican cuisine restaurant. I missed my favorite spot in California.
I’m from El Salvador and that food looked so good. I’m glad there’s a place in Hawaii that serves our food. You have to come to El Salvador one day and I will give you a food tour. Glad you liked it!
Wonderful video yes the food looks great, Central American food is not spicy hot but just full of flavors. Love that Salvadoran food has come to Hawaii 🙏🏼👍🏼😆
Yeah ,the pupusas ,the yuca frys ,pasteles ,tamale, that's salvadorean the other food is a mix mexican food ,but the shrimps are also salvadorean style, very good salvadorean food in Hawaii, I'm from el salvador living in Las Vegas, when you come to vegas we have a bunch of salvadorean restaurants.
I love this place. Love how you ordered so much food and showed us all of it, now I'll definitely go back to try the creamy shrimp. When I lived in LA I had Salvadoran friends who brought over homemade pupusas and these look the same. The only difference was, the curtido that my friends made was very spicy. Maybe the owners of La Casita know that Hawaii peeps can't handle a lot of spice LOL. Thanks, this was a great video.
Glad you have at least one pupuseria in Oahu and it's a good one. I love pupusas and Salvadorean tamales. In California, we have pupusas with many different fillings including the 3 types you had and cheese/jalapeno, cheese/spinach, cheese/squash, cheese/chicharron, etc. Costillas de puerco (pork ribs) is pronounced "cos-tee-yas" (2 l's in Spanish is like a 'y'). The chicharron is served with fried yuca aka cassava, a starchy root vegetable like a potato. It's not jicama. I can tell all the food is homemade, delicious and fresh. The owner is super nice and friendly too 😊👍
Aloha Amanda & Felix (and Yvonne too). What an interesting video on Salvadorian food, the food looked delicious. It's always interesting to see you dine on all types of ethnic foods, especially unique foods such as this (Salvadorian). Mahalo for another great vlog, look forward to your next one.........and Happy Birthday Amanda!!!
We love to try all types of food, especially ones we're not familiar with! We encourage everyone to try foods out of their comfort zone.. who knows, it might be a new favorite 😬 Mahalo for watching and supporting Paula! And Mahalo for the birthday wish! 💕
I swear wherever me and my wife go we always hoping to bump into you guys 😂 my wife swears that Felix and her would be foodie BFFs haha now ima go here tomorrow for lunch. Thanks guys 🤙🏽🤙🏽
Oh man. I have really been missing central American food and this place looks like it will hit the spot! It will definitely be worth the trek to Waipahu. Those churros look similar to the churros I would get living in Miami. Crispy outside, soft inside. Some places stuff the churros with different creams as well.
I’m so happy to see people eating my peoples food the Pupusa‘s You guys didn’t do nothing wrong the dipping with anything is perfectly fine also the baleadas those are from Honduras that’s Honduras special cuisine so you had to special cuisine‘s one from El Salvador and one from Honduras I love that they are really mixed in this restaurant so it really is based on Central American food that’s awesome And yes we may not like spicy foods like Mexico but as a Spanish person that loves spicy food it’s always best to take your own spice anywhere you go and just added to any red sauce especially if you go to restaurants like this and they have that red sauce that you guys are supposed to put with the pupusa’s makes it 10 times better but this makes me a proud Salvadorian and Hondurian watching u guys enjoy our culture food it so cool!! Also our Horchata‘s are made from a whole types of nuts Grind like coffee it’s very different to the Mexican Horchata So the Salvadorian horchata Has and should have a very distinguished taste.
Felix, you asked about the spiciness of the food. With the exception of Mexico, most Latin American cuisine avoid spicing their food. For me being Mexican American, I have aunts and uncles who make and take their own salsa/chili to restaurants because they need the spiciness in their lives.
That's good to know! We thought it was odd that there wasn't much heat to the dishes but it's good to know it's naturally Latin American foods. Mahalo for the insight! 🤙
The difference between Mexican and salvadorean horchata is the Mexican add milk to it ,salvadorans use only rice ,litle bit of chocolate and some morro seed, but really you should try the cashew horchata or peanuts, very good
salvadorean horchata is made different than mexican, salvadorean is made from a combination of nuts, like cashews, almonds, punking seeds etc, mexican horchata is made from rice
lots of Pupusaria's and Salvadorian food here in SoCal... none I've been to have carne asada and ribs like that!!! looks awesome! I guess just another reason Hawaii's melting pot culture and food expectations does all kine foods right. I find that Koreans (i'm orean) take to Pupusas easily 'cause that Curtido (pickled cabage) stuff especially mixed with a spicy salsa is similar idea to kimchi. And that Curtido looks super fresh/still crunchy...yum. a lot of the Curtido around me is a wet soggy mess..
Awesome food--adventure video. Easily observe how a Foodie-couple luvs eating ono foods;) Amanda's editing is a Pro! and like Felix-warped humor and experimenting usin U g different sauces.....Felix, you crack me up! Plz continue to explore small restaurants and diversity of ethnic cuisines in Hawaii. U guys ROCK!!
Hello ! We had neighbors from Honduras sure reminds me of the fine dinners we had .nice that all the food was made in-house, hope the restaurant does well thanks for a different twist have a wonderful week Eileen and John
For the most part it did look authentic. Tortilla though are normally the same as the pupusas just no filling. The other tortillas there are probably Honduran which is fine. Glad you guys liked it so much. Love this video. Nice to meet you all. Those pupusas are so cheesy 😋.
Chips and salsa, with the chips fresh from the fryer! BUT WAIT! There's MORE! OMG that food looks amazeballs! Very Authentic as well. I haven't had a banana leaf-wrapped tamale in forever and I prefer them over the corn-wrapped ones. YES! THAT IS REAL!!! Real good!
1 of Each! Aaaaaaaawe 😭😭 If the flan & tres leches were both sold out means you'll DEFINITELY need to go back & go early cuz apparently those are popular items! Those churos looked awesome!

Really enjoyed this video guys! Thumbs up to the restaurant's menu salvadorian and hondurian food looks so good and yes it's mild not hot at all. By the way at min.19 yuca (yucca) and chicharron (pork) was perfection!!🤙🏼🇸🇻
Aloha Amanda & Felix! I recently came across your content and I’m so happy I did. I’m a big foodie myself so I’m obsessed! It’s definitely going to come in handy for my upcoming trip this year but my boyfriend and I are still debating on the months. If you don’t mind answering a few questions of mine I’d truly truly appreciate it! 🥺💕 1. Would September or October be a better month to travel to Oahu with less crowds and good weather? 2. By the way. The shrimps sauce it's actually a combination of Salvadoran sour cream and Coconut milk. You season the shrimps with Adobo all purpose seasoning it's also Salvadoran seasoning, minced garlic and Abit of olive oil then cook them in a pan give them a good 3 minutes on each side. Then you add the Salvadoran sour cream and coconut milk and let it cook for 4 minutes until they get nice and creamy. And that's it.
Enjoyed our time together, good looking g food . Love watching the three of you. Looking forward to going back in October and trying some of your recommendations 😊
Awesome! Glad you liked it and hope you make your way to El Salvador eventually as I’ve heard ES has some similarities with Hawaii. Theres a lot of travel vids of ES now on TH-cam. If they have banana empanadas id definitely try those guys! Glad you enjoyed. ✌🏽🇺🇸🇸🇻.
Mexican food is known to be spicy hot. Central and South American I think not so much? And then the Caribbean has spice from Scotch Bonnet, etc. Love yuca frita/fries! So glad Hawaii has always been open to diverse foods.
Mahalo for the insight! We're so used to Mexican food that we didn't really know how to eat this😰 LOL But we're so happy that we got to try it out! Mahalo for watching🤙🏼
@@AmandaFelixEats You guys did a great job and tried such a variety from OG pupusas all the way to dessert! One dessert that's really yummy is the alfajor/alajú. The ones I've eaten are 2 shortbread cookies filled with cajeta/caramel and dusted with powdered sugar. Rich, but not too sweet. Totes! Mexican food is now so popular and readily available like sushi, even poke, pizza, etc., while food from Central and South America and Caribbean are still a bit more rare and are different and ono. They're often a mix of Spanish, Portuguese, French?, African and indigenous culinary traditions.
OK! Mouth Watering!...I love Latin cuisine, it's hard to find authentic latin food home here, I had no idea this place existed....and I drive by that strip mall often. Mahalo's turning me on to this gem, I'm going to check it out....As always Mahalo's you two
We've never tasted anything like this so we were so happy we could try it out! We're so glad we could scope this place out for you to try! Hope you enjoy it🤙🏼 Mahalo for watching and supporting🥰
Interesting video about food I know nothing about. Quite informative. I think the shrimps, ribs and steak were the most interesting to me. Mahalo and Aloha.
I know im 2 years late to this vid but the baleada is a traditional Honduran dish. I highly recommend trying the breakfast version of it it's a top tier breakfast option for me lol.
The horchata you guys tried is salvadorean horchata is made out of morro its a fruit in el salvador and they take the seeds from the fruit dry them toast them and then blend with cinnamon and sugar to make our horchata . not rice , very different from mexican horchata 😊also pupusas are 100% from el salvador . Baleadas are from honduras like tacos are from mexico, just so you can have a better idea . Awesome video 😃
So cool you guys went to Salvadorean food. Pupusas needed to be cooked a little more, they look under cooked. The pastelito looked under cooked too :( Next time order an empanada de frijol, fresco de ensalada and plátano frito and a Rigua with crema!!
Glad you like Salvadoran food. Very different from Mexican food. The horchata and churro has it's own unique taste
Me encanta que haya comida salvadoreña en Hawai , vengan a conocer El Salvador serán bienvenidos
There is actually two types of Horchata. One is Horchata de arroz (rice) and Horchata de morro (a mix of seeds or nuts). Majority of Salvi restaurants use horchata de morro. Hello from Omaha Nebraska.. I’m from El Salvador and I’m so glad you like our food 😊
Salvadoran food is so good I use to frequent this Salvadoran place in Houston forgot the name. The place always pack with central american people mainly from Salvadoran,Honduras,Guatemalan. You guys should try also Peruvian food it delicious!!!
Peruvian sounds interesting!
La pupusa rica on gessner st are the best in all Southwest Houston
I just recently tried Peruvian food it was delicious not hot though a lot of colorful sauces on every meat dish. Love fried plantains as well.
You guys had a banquet on this one. I love Salvadorian food!

Horchata drink is a drink made from the boiled rice liquid that has sugar, cinnamon, and vanilla added. It's just the best🌟👍

The signage is really light and doesn’t grab your attention. They need a better sign at the El Salvatorian restaurant.
Great video! Can you guys recommend a nice place to celebrate wedding anniversary. We are going there in 4 weeks.
Nailed it guys. Tanks.
Mahalo Ken🤙🏼
I’ve had these before homemade from a friend from Honduras.

Interesting video about food I know nothing about. Quite informative. I think the shrimps, ribs and steak were the most interesting to me. Mahalo and Aloha.
They were all delicious 🤤
I know im 2 years late to this vid but the baleada is a traditional Honduran dish. I highly recommend trying the breakfast version of it it's a top tier breakfast option for me lol.
Salvadorean food is so good
El Salvador & the Pupusas will be waiting for you! 🇸🇻
Next time, try la sopa de res, sopa de tripa, yuca con chicharrón.
Pupusas and tamales,yucca,pastelitos 😊👍😍
It looks similar as Colombian food...that's crazy!!
🇨🇴🇸🇻🇨🇴🇸🇻🇨🇴🇸🇻
Que bien que les guste nuestra comida. La horchata salvadoreña no está hecha con arroz solo la mexicana.
So cool you guys went to Salvadorean food. Pupusas needed to be cooked a little more, they look under cooked. The pastelito looked under cooked too :(
Next time order an empanada de frijol, fresco de ensalada and plátano frito and a Rigua with crema!!
I love this video. keep it up you guys
Mahalo for the video, I'll be visiting on Wednesday.
Mahalo for watching! 🤙
