That is an excellent way to think about it. I would like to wear it as often as I can, however I do have a bunch of other watches just sitting in the watch box.
@@WrongTimeWatch Thank you. I, too, have a few watches in a box and in winders. I try to rotate throughout them all but some always get more wrist time than others. I’m just trying to enjoy all the things I’m fortunate enough to have before I am no longer among the living. I can’t just let them sit in a vault or in a garage (cars, motorcycles) . I need to drive, ride, wear them and get the enjoyment out of having them.
I lived in Hawaii in the 80's and actually met Tom Selleck. I didn't pay any attention to what watch he was wearing. Magnum PI was a huge show back then.
I'm a longtime Rolex toolwatch fan and worked for an AD back in the 80s - if I'd known then what I know now...😂 I was a young man then and could only afford an Oyster Date but wore it proudly every day for 20 years. It was only off my wrist when it was being serviced. Always wanted a Sub and Daytona but could never justify the spend on a watch. Two years ago I bought a Tudor Black Bay Chrono and really love it. Still looking for a dive watch. Enjoy your beautiful Sub 👍
I have wanted a Rolex watch for 20 years. I feel like every time I could justify the cost, the prices would increase. I finally just decided to put the money down and buy one. I am still not sure if they are worth the cost, but I guess I can always sell it and get my money back if I wanted. I hope you are able to get your Rolex one day.
Your Sub is one of the most iconic watches ever made and an excellent "store of value". Definitely worth it! While watches should not be purchased as "investments", a Rolex is like "cash on your wrist". You will always be able to get your $ back if you need or choose to sell it.
That is one of the benefits of owning a Rolex for sure. I would expect that if I ever needed to sell it, I would at least get my money back. The problem is that I would have to sell it to get my money back, and I don't want to have to sell it.
Thank you for sharing, Kevin. I think the key is that you can afford the watch and seem to truly enjoy it. Now, the fact that you bought this Rolex going on 3 years for $8,100, with tax $8,667 (assuming 7%), and add another $600 for 3 years of insurance, you are all in today at $9,267, and yet received an offer for $13k, you are golden! Prices on Pepsis have gone down a little. Your next move may be selling this one, cont to sell the balance of what you don't want in your collection, and purchase a Pepsi. At the end of the day, the only 2 things that matter are: can you afford it, and will that make you that much happier. Watches are not for investment with some exceptions in the ultra high categories. I think you are in a good position. Enjoy it!
If he can actually get $13k for this watch, he should take that deal immediately. This watch isn’t worth that premium. You can get it from the AD in under 2 months.
If he’s saying that a dealer recently offered him $13.5k, he’s lying. These have come way down in value over the last couple of years. No dealer is paying anywhere near $13.5k for a 124060 right now. I think he meant that he received that offer 3 years ago, which is more believable because they were going for around $15-16k at that point.
Nice watch, congratulations. Why do people always reference 'taking out loans' in a bad way? Interest free credit is a loan, having an iPhone on a contract is a lone. Get the watch early, enjoy it while you are paying off the loan, and avoid price increases.
I suppose as long as the interest rate is less than the increase in price, then you could come out ahead. However, for something other than a car or a house, I would rather pay in cash.
@@WrongTimeWatch Well that's a personal choice. Not being rude but it seems you (and other people who say this) are saying that you cannot afford to buy a car or a house outright, but can a watch, so are taking some odd moral high ground about it.
Giving out financial advice and trying to help people is a good thing, but you need to know more about the persons situation rather than ruling it out full stop. Got my first Rolex on interest free credit (so an unsecured loan) and it was a fantastic financial decision that I would 100% recommend. Self insurance is another good one for young people. Both involve being responsible though, and I would agree that irresponsible people should avoid loans.
I would really like to get a batgirl from my AD. I have tried a few times, and have been told that any GMT is hard to get. Thank you for the feedback on the video, it is not my "normal" type of video, so I appreciate the feedback.
@@WrongTimeWatchI am lucky to live by a fantastic gray dealer happy jewelers. They have an enormous selection and fair prices. I’d trade that in on a Pepsi jubilee with a local gray dealer and might cost you +10k. Might trade the explorer in too. Same moment as the gmt.
It is a great watch, and I am really happy to own it. The point I was trying to make is to buy the watch for yourself, not to impress others, most people do not care.
@@WrongTimeWatch yes and one more reason to like him even more. Since he lacks cyclops he hides in plain sight. As an enthusiast I rather not talk with normies about it since they will never understand the passion behind it and will always think it is flex piece to assert dominance and attention.
Luxury items are never worth in terms of economy. But at least this one will retain the value. Not increase in the middle term as you have to count the servicing costs. If you can afford it and don’t lose value it’s worth to buy and enjoy of it for sure.
I totally agree, and it is a nice bonus that this watch would keep its value, and I won't necessarily lose any money wearing this watch over a long period of time.
It has a simple yet timeless design, it goes well with any outfit in any situation. Your passion and respect for the watch as a timepiece and not, as is usually seen, as a statement of status symbol showoff is tangible, regards.
I totally agree, and thank you. I mostly wear long sleeves, and my watch is tucked away under the sleeve. I prefer that folks no not notice that I am wearing a Rolex watch.
Ive been wearing a 1969 Speedmaster pro for close to ten years now. In all kinds of situations. In total three (3) people have said something about it :D If you think you will impress people with your fancy watch you are very wrong.
I totally agree, wear the watch for you, not to impress other people. I saw a guy a couple of years ago wearing a speedmaster at my Son's band concert. I asked him about it, and he said it was a 1969 speedmaster, such a cool year to have.
Good for you not flipping the watch. The Submariner has been my favorite watch since I first saw it in 1984. Yes I know everyone has one now and some think they are boring but it will always be my favorite watch.
It took me 20 years to justify buying one, and then I had to wait to actually be able to buy one from the AD. No way was I going to sell it, not even for a a profit of $5,000.
These are going for 10.5K to 11.5K realistically. The market has cooled substantially since COVID, during the hype times these were selling for 14K - 15K on the secondary market
Thanks, I did a quick search on the internet to see what they are going for now. I have no plan to sell the watch, so I have not been keeping up on the prices.
And if you bought yours at retail, you made money and came ahead. Paid $8900 plus tax from Rolex AD back in 2021. Today I can get $11K-$12K for it without breaking a sweat. The guys that overpaid and bought from the grey market are the ones that took one heck of a bath in lost value.
Everything you buy is an investment. You invest your time and/or money into it. The thing is whether you bought it to make a significant amount of money.
That is a good point. I did not buy this watch with the intention of selling it. However it is nice to know that if I do decide to sell it one day, I should not lose any money on it.
I ended up trading my 124060 for the SD 16600. I found the bezel to be too shiny and took away from the tool watch vibes this was originally intended for. The glossy ceramic bezel also attracts unwanted attention vs the aluminum bezel which noone notices from my experience.
I have many times considered buying a 14060m, or 16570 for the more classic tool watch Rolex. However, I much prefer the modern Rolex bracelets. It would be nice if the submariner was offered with a matte ceramic dial instead of the glossy one. I agree, it is just a bit too much shine for my preference, however I do still really like the 124060.
