I have 50 watches. My favorite is the Rolex Sub. I couldn't care less of what people think. I just buy watches that I like. Some dressy, some sporty, some divers, some field. It depends of my mood of what I'm going to do or what I'm going to dress or what I'm longing. I wear them for me not for the other people. When I was a kid and first saw Sean Connery using that adventurous watch I got hooked. The Sub is classy unsurpassable. For others it's another aesthetic that appeals for them. Fine. Use what you like is the Motto. Cheers
Completely feel the same. I use the ceramic GMT as a crew life buddy. It’s so scratched up and looking forward to see how aged in next 10years. Let’s just enjoy these trusty beautiful “tool”. I always enjoying your work!!
I love your deliberation. So true, so true. I realized after like 9 years of no one ever noticing my expensive watches that most people just don’t care even if they are wearing Rolexes. I just stopped complimenting people on their watches because they didn’t know jack about them. They got on the hype train and it means almost nothing else to them. We look at these watches as amazing mechanical tools that serve us in multiple environments and they are investments for our everyday lives, not a just a flex piece. And you are spot on with Formula 1! My neighbors and even brother are wearing F1 t-shirts and they can’t even tell me a drivers name!
Haha, I have a similar neighbor. He always tries to talk F1 with me (I sometimes wear an old Jenson Button hat), but he only knows what he saw on Netflix. All great points and very well said. I'm the same and just stopped complimenting people on their watches as like you said, most aren't interested in these amazing mechanical tools. Cheers
Cheyne, good video appreciate your honest insight. give it time. you may find that the sub goes from least wrist time to most. I have a no-date 124060 that has become my most worn piece. Be comfortable in your own skin, and enjoy something you worked hard for. there are posers out there, but remember “the man makes the watch, the watch does not make the man” a Rolex, well worn by a man of character and integrity, becomes an icon. Even more so for someone living a life as adventurous as yours.
I just had my Rolex Datejust 41 overhauled and serviced by Rolex and its accuracy is unbelievable. I love watching your videos because you mention a lot about the performance of the watches you wear.

@@bloodymarvelous4790 Thank you for the feedback! I totally understand where you’re coming from. I wear my sub everyday, and it's always on my wrist while climbing. I summited Mont Blanc in the summer of 2023, and wore the Sub. I got stopped a few times during the 6 days by guys pointing out the watch and saying they are happy to see one being used.
Great video. I had wanted a Sub date for over 20 years. To me it was going to mark successes in my career, it was a grail watch. When I was finally able to get it, the popularity made me work for it. When I did get it, I was over the moon happy and excited. My collection has changed a lot over the years, but 2 that will always remain in the collection is the Sub date and my Polar Explorer. A funny thing has happened over the past year, like you, I don’t grab it nearly as much as I used to. I tend to grab the Polar more, it is a Rolex without screaming Rolex. I don’t do many fancy events, and it’s not the status symbol, my status is pretty boring lol. I just find my Polar has a bit more versatility, I really enjoy wearing it. Regarding the scratches, interestingly, at one point I considered buying preowned. The one I was looking at was scratched up pretty good. I asked if I purchased it, could they refinish. He said they could, but interestingly, Subs with more patina hold higher value because of the story that comes with it. I chose new to write my own story. It’s the first high end watch that I never got concerned about scratches. All part of the history that will be passed down. Again, great job, keep up the great work on this channel.
Thank you very much Doug for sharing this with me. That is a great story and I feel much the same about my watches. I love that idea of setting goals and rewarding yourself when you achieve them. A I 100% agree every scratch tells a story. Cheers
It only taints the experience of owning and wearing that iconic, durable, beautiful example of the watchmaking art if you care too much what other people do or think. Otherwise, YOU are wearing it as a status symbol. 😉
Hi Cheyne, very nice video as always. In some past videos you said that you are always traveling for your work: do you have any tips for traveling with expensive watches? I will take a trip to the USA in the Grand Canyon and I don't know if I should bring my SUB. Thanks, congratulations for everything!
Thank you. Sounds like a great trip, I'll be at the Grand Canyon next week. I only travel with one watch when I travel, I don't recommended bring multiple watches, so that expensive watch will always be safely on your wrist. I think you should be fine going to the Grand Canyon, I've never had a problem and I'm there 3 or 4 times a year. You just have to be a bit on guard when your in bigger cities (certain parts). Otherwise I have worn my Rolex watches all over, with no issues. Are you visiting any big cities on your visit? If you so, and you fell uncomfortable showing off the watch, just wear a jacket or long sleeve shirt. Cheers, happy travels.
Get a JLC Polaris Date or Chrono or Perpetual Calendar! By the way, I really like how you describe living with a watch rather than the specs or something
Most people wearing a SUB, really don't know anything about it. I wouldn't wonder if some of them ask their dealer if he could change the battery cuz it's not working anymore! 😂But anyway, all these guys are not the people you can compare with us connaisseurs and real watch lovers. We shouldn't mind. Your comparism with Formula 1 was very good. I like racing over decades, adoring drivers like Lauda, Senna and so on. For me only the spectacle on the race track is important, nothing else. BTW I understand your problems with so many others wearing a SUB on a formal event. For moments like this I really do not choose my SUB. Then I take my Yachtmaster 42. So probably I'm the only one wit this watch and I do really enjoy it! Very good video with very good thoughts about the SUB watchgame! PROST, my friend! 😊
Thank you! I love putting on those old F1 races with Lauda and Senna, great old school racing. Good points and I'm with you, I think I'm going to "retire" the Rolex Submariner from these formal event and wear something else. Thanks as always for your insight, Cheers & PROST!
With that 12 hour movement it really is. A date complication turns the 12 hour movement into a 24 hour movement, AND you have to set the date separately. A no-date Submariner is so much easier to live with. (Plus, it doesn't have that hideous cyclops).
Have you owned the 50th Anniversary Sea-Dweller with a 43mm case? It appears to have even more features than the Sub and in a better sized case. The red line is sharp on it as well. The Sub does seem a bit dainty on tall guys who are active. The Sea-Dweller may be my next one to consider.
I like the Sea-Dweller its just to much watch for me. 43mm is a bit to big for me and like I mentioned in the video, the deepest I scuba is only about 15 meter. So the Submariner is a bit better of a fit for me. Cheers
If 43mm is really the size you want to go for, you can't do much better than the 126600 Sea-Dweller. For me, while I can easily wear a 43mm, the 40mm 116600 is the perfect dive watch. It wears smaller than the 116610 or 126610 Submariner, but can handle whatever you want to throw at it. While I'm only a recreational diver, and will never reach a depth that's too much for a Submariner, I like that the Sea-Dweller can handle depths well beyond the deepest man has ever dived. I also love the automatic Gas Escape Valve, even though I'll never use it. (I don't get the manual Gas Escape Valves Omega puts on their Seamasters. They're accidents waiting to happen.)
Just fell onto your channel about this watch and I get what you’re saying. And I feel somewhat the same at times. I’m not a wealthy person and I was bought one for graduation from grad school. Mine is the older design with the one time green bezel, so the beauty of it, is that most casual folks don’t see it as a Rolex and if they ask, I just tell them it’s fake, due to the green bezel, most folks are use to the black. When someone asks me about it and says it’s a LV, then I’ll talk about it, how I got it and why I wanted one. But I do get why you feel that way. It is a popular watch and unfortunately a status symbol, especially with the prices over the last 30 years. Crazy how that is but nothing we can control. Just wear it, enjoy it, and ignore the haters or the flashy folks. I use to collect watches until I had most of them stolen, now my sub and my Apple Watch is to only two I own. Thanks
Sorry to hear about your collection being stolen. I do the same thing when someone asks me if it's real. If that's all they're interested in, they don't need to know. The 50th anniversary 16610LV is an amazing watch, and probably the most interesting Submariner Date ever made. Wear it in good health. I only have two watches at the moment myself. A 116600 Sea-Dweller, and a GMW-B5000TFC Casio G-Shock. Both watches I absolutely love. And I baby the G-Shock more than I do the Rolex.
I got the AD call in April 2024 for Starbucks after waiting 10 months and buying two other Rolexes. I got it for my 62 birthday. I couldn’t afford the hulk and got the second best. I will leave it to my first grandchild as for all my children I have purchased a Rolex and have given it to them already. I’m enjoying it in the meantime. My success is giving something to each of my kids that can be passed on to their children.
I love mine and will never part with it-possibly the most iconic, do anything piece ever made. The irony is I wear long sleeves year around, and no one knows that I wear it, or any watch for that matter. And I personally love the long term reviews, please keep them coming!
Thanks you Wayne, Yes I love my Rolex Submariner and love wearing it, in most cases. I like that long sleeves option, I can pull that off now in Nov, but Southern California in August that wouldn't fly. :) Cheers
I love my 2004 Sub. Over 20 years and going strong. The only watch that is more iconic is the Rolex Daytona. Dress the Sub up or dress it down. It goes perfectly with a suit or swim trunks. There is no doubt is a status symbol for some people. But for me, its perfect, and honestly no one seems to notice it much. Or at least comment on it. Another dive watch I own and I am a big fan of is the much more easily attainable Omega Seamaster. Headed to the Caribbean in a couple of hours for some sailing, snorkeling and beach time. I'm bringing both.
I understand your point of view because I've been there before. Now I wear what I really like and I don't give a damn about other people's opinions. It comes with time, maturity and gray hair!
i have the 126610ln after a 5 week wait from an ad.. and then 6 months later i was in the right place at the right time and got a 126610lv. both have a story of how i obtained them. but the lv.. everyone knows how special that is.
does your Bezel sound like a ting?? like metal ish sounding. I swim with mine every day and it has changed in sound from a click to a slight hint of what a fishing real sounds like when the drag is getting pulled out haha.
Interesting, I know the exact sound you are talking about. Since I go swimming with it in salt water all the time, every two weeks or so I'll submerge the Rolex Submariner in a bowl of fresh water and turn the bezel a few times to help clean out salt and junk. Might try that see if it helps, Cheers
I personally think the actual submariner without date is the better choice. Less ubiquitous and recognizable without the cyclops. I own a 114060 and will never part with it. I do see a fair amount of submariner dates in the wild, but the only submariners I see are on the wrists of watch enthusiasts.
Good to hear, and there are a lot of watch enthusiasts with the Rolex Submariner, like I mentioned in the video, I believe we are out number by people wearing it for brand recognition. That also has a lot to do with your location, I might be in the worst location. Cheers
That's a true dive watch. No date. No cyclops. Just pure elegance. My personal preference goes to the 14060M with the 2-line dial and a flat four bezel. That's pure neo-vintage with a modern 3130 movement. If I were a gazillionaire, I'd have the 5517 Milsub, but since I'm not, and never will be, the 14060M is it. Unfortunately I don't have one. The money went towards a 116600 Sea-Dweller, which to me is the perfect dive watch. 1220m/4000ft water resistance, helium escape valve, scratch proof, 40mm, no cyclops, and the excellent modern bracelet and glidelock clasp.
@@Dirtywesterner I just love that I can go out in the early morning, catch a few waves, go into work and meetings, then maybe go out for a formal meal wearing the Rolex Submariner through it all.
My advice - appreciate that you have such a capable watch and wear it because you enjoy it. I have an SD 43 and could give a flip whether anyone notices it, and even less about what they think. If someone started a conversation about it, I’d be happy for the opportunity to talk with them. Otherwise, I wear it because it means something to me and makes me smile when I check the time. Cheers
Oh that is a tough one. Right now it is probably a tie between the Rolex Explorer II and Rolex Explorer 40. But then also I loved wearing my Breitling Aviator 8 B01 Chronograph Mosquito, it was just to fragile and keep breaking. Cheers
In my locale, I don’t see Rolex often. You’re getting a GMT soon though. Do you see lots of GMTs where you are? Wouldn’t you run into a similar issue with the GMT?
That is the thing, I've seen 100s of Rolex Submariners and Daytonas, but only a handful of GMT Master IIs. Either way all great watches and I'm sure if I'll run onto the same problem. I'll keep you posted. Cheers
Grand Seiko (Omiwatari?) or JLC or something like that might be a good next dress watch. Tudors have scratched my Rolex itch without the stigma. Pelagos seems like a great no frills field watch. BB54 has the vintage rolex vibes. I could go on and on. The point is, theres so many other great options out there that no one buys for status.
I have had this exact watch for about the same time as you. You’re exactly right about the 12on12Off. It sleeps in its pillow right next to my bed. Last thing I take off a night. First thing I put on in the morning to start my day. No one ever notices my watch just like no one ever notice’s the printing of my G23 on my right side. If anyone ever did I’d say “it’s my colostomy bag, you want to look?” Don’t care how many are out there. “This is my Rifle, there are many like it but this one is mine” …Full Metal Jacket
To be fair, the 116610 and the 126610 are probably the most boring Submariners you can get. Out of all the affordable options out there, I'd say a 5513, a 14060(M), or a 40mm Sea-Dweller are the more interesting choices. Or if you're a multi-millionaire, the 6538, 5517, or a Comex Sea-Dweller. I took my 116600 Sea-Dweller into a dealer the other day to have a link removed, and it sparked an extended conversation both when I dropped it off and when I collected it about the history and the specs of this particular model, and how great it was to see one again. To anyone who's not a watch nerd, it just looks like a Submariner, or it just doesn't get noticed at all. But when someone recognizes it, you've found a friend for life. And when you come across someone who thinks it's a Sub, that can lead to an interesting conversation as well.
I tend to agree with you on the status symbol. I wish it was less popular because it is such a good watch. I hate that people buy just because of the hype.
Yeah, its just such a good watch, its popularity is a testament to how good the watch is, but now sadly the craftsmanship, design and toughness have been a lit forgotten. Cheers
Personally if you wanted a tool I think the Tudor Palegas is a better choice. I have 4 Rolex snd wife has 1. If I am going outdoors I almost always go with Seamaster 300, Tudor Pelagas or Formex field watch. Although I will occasionally wear my Explorer 39mm out there but it’s not my go to. I do love that as an under the radar watch
Yeah the Palegas is a great watch, I also like the Omega Seamaster, but the Rolex watches are just so good out in the field. Check out some of my other videos, have beaten the hell out of my Rolex watches and they keep working flawlessly. Cheers
You're 100% correct. It's a watch that both watch nerds AND people who know nothing about watches will own. It's also super common and for a 'status symbol', that makes no sense. Regardless of that, it's a sharp watch, just not my first choice from the brand.
I’m 70 days into my no date and I’m not taking it off. Ever. I have 45+ watches 2-3 of them Tudors ,half a dozen Seikos ,Chinese watches etc but this one is not leaving my wrist even at night …
It's interesting to hear your experience with your rolex sub. Watches are partially about design, function, engineering and more than anything, how they make you feel. If wearing it gives you that experience you described, that's genuinely worth considering. Maybe its worth considering if looking for a watch that ticks the important boxes of the sub, without the "trying hard to show status" vibe...? There are so many dive watches out there, i hope you find one.
@@bloodymarvelous4790 I do my best to personal reply to all comments, please understand I'm currently on a 3 week photography trip and I have very limited internet access and time as we travel through remote locations.
All my watches are divers except for a plastic Marathon quartz pilot's watch with tritium lume that I wear at night. I don't have any Rolex but maybe some day will own one. For right now my two favorites are an orange bezel, white dial Planet Ocean 43.5mm and a Tudor FXD in black.
If you like the look and functionality of the sub, I think you would benefit from the Tudor Pelagos 39. Titanium and true tool watch with the everyday wearability.
Agree with everything you say but it’s so hard to beat, it’s a terrific watch. Not sure what I’d swap mine for something which is equal to or better than for the money, let’s be honest there isn’t anything. Hence I won’t sell it.
i was lucky enough to wear one for a couple of days and to tell you the truth i like it a lot. Ended up returning it and got myself a ginault(homage) since I'm currently in the waiting list.
Your F1 comparison sums it up to me, in the opposite sense of your point. I watch F1, I’ve watched it a long time. I’ve never watched Drive to Survive. Has that reduced my experience? No. Because it doesn’t impact me. To sum it up, how other people enjoy things has no bearing on my own enjoyment. Watches too. I wear what I want and I don’t care if some random person wears the same watch for prestige.
The first F1 race I saw was the 1989 Monaco Grand Prix. Ayrton Senna and Alain Prost battling it out in the Honda-McLarens. I don't think you can get sucked into F1 with a better race than that :). Been an F1 fan ever since.
Don’t give that guy grief because he doesn’t know the history ,movement ,etc of the watch. If I see a woman and she is wearing a beautiful ring , I don’t need her to explain the cut, clarity, color, setting , etc of her ring if I compliment her on the jewelry. Just enjoy your awesome watch and don’t have any expectations for others to enjoy or understand your purchase.
That is a good point, you have to remember this is a channel about my watch collecting journey. These are just thoughts and fun topics to introduce and talk about with other watch enthusiast.
I have one daily watch and I love it to death. I have a Tudor Prince Oysterdate 74034 and it’s beaten and scarred up, but still looks clean where I want it to. I love the look of a worn watch and wouldn’t trade my watch for anything Rolex sells.
Some really interesting points, great video. I tend to feel any Submariner pre the 6 digit era falls into the enthusiast camp, as opposed to the poser camp. I’m looking at 14060M as my next watch
Love the ref 14060M, great watches. The 6 digit Rolex Submariners are incredible watches, but more people are buying them for more of that status symbol vibe element. Cheers
Cheyne, love your content and art work. However, you have the best looking most functional version of the Sub ever with the exception of my Cermit Sub with the green bezel, lol! But Im biased. I actually like the contrast of the brushed and polished finishes. No one but you will ever notice the scratches on the polished side walls. Just my 2 cents. Keep up the great content and enjoy your watches! Ps, I agree about the popularity but it also happens to be the OG icon probably the best overall watch based on quality, durability and looks ever made!
I actually think your analysis is awesome Cheyne. You put your watch through the ringer hiking surfing etc. Me too I surf in mine and use it. It's interesting I actually got some real fine almost like sand paper like scratches under the buckle area / extension kind of the under belly.. I think it's from sand? Keep doing what you do Cheyne. I recently splurged and got a pretty good deal on a blue skydweller. Interesting watch really cool dial. It's pretty beefy though. I have a 7.35 " wrist so hoping I can get used to it!
Man, you keeping forgetting: you are the guy who actually embodies the spirit of this watch! You are the guy who the other guys fancy themselves to be when they were it. If you took the ten people in the room who were wearing it and asked a group of people “which one of these ten is not a poser”, everyone would say you because you wear to do what it was made to do. It’s you embarrassing everyone else.
You have to remember this is a channel about my watch collecting journey. These are just thoughts and fun topics to introduce and talk about with other watch enthusiast.
I get the whole stigma thing about the Sub, but personally I know I have other watches at home that 100% counter any Dick comments or thoughts, and even if I did not I would be more than happy to just own a Sub these days. I am a Sea-Dweller guy historically (The Manly Sub) and most people commenting (not the Deepsea) probably thought it was a Sub. As the Sub is 41/21mm now I'm after one, but it's taken 35 years of Rolex ownership.
Its heartbreaking to hear people buy these for status and status alone... buy a Day/Date if you don't care. There is so much history and engineering that makes it so amazing. But it is a victim of its own success
Hi, Cheyne You are right about F1 it has become very corporate as a sport but that is where the money is Not enough focus on the team and the car as you can see with Lewis Hamilton he has a poor car and is nowhere this proves how important the team and the car are. The issue with the Submariner is the popularity and the fact that it is the most copied watch around But that shows how good it is
I work in motorsport and over the last few years (I call it the 'Netflix Generation'), the number of 'fans' entering the sport that look down on you has increased a lot. And then I like the look on their faces when they see me wearing a more expensive Rolex than them haha.
That is a great point, its the most copied watch in the world because the original is so good. Yeah F1, I love it, but its not what it was 10, 15 years ago. Its going to be interesting to see Lewis Hamilton at Ferrari next year. Cheers
Thank you. If it means anything, I personal think Rolex AD stories have been very over exaggerated. I've had great experiences with my Rolex AD, I go in tell them the watch I like, they give me a rough time estimate. I'll check-in about once a month for any updates and that is it. I have always gotten the watch before or when promised. Now I could have gotten lucky with my Rolex AD, but I only hear these "crazy" stories on TH-cam or social media. Myself and almost every Rolex owner I have personally spoken with have nothing but good things to say about their Rolex AD experience. Giving they don't like the wait time, but nothing can really be done about that. Cheers
I agree with your take. It's a great watch but it's reputation as a great piece of engineering gets tainted by people who wear it for status rather than the mechanical marvel that it is. This is also part of the reason so many watch fans own a G-Shock. It in it's own way the g-shock is a marvel and yet really inexpensive. If you took a blender and put a g-shock in with a Rolex you get a Tudor, the average/mean between the two.
If you think this was bad, wait 'till you meet a Daytona owner. Most don't even set the time, let alone know how to use the Tachymeter or the Chronograph. Buy a Speedmaster 3861 Sapphire to go along your Rolex watches and no one will question your passion for watches again.
I think you (like most people who have a singular or a few luxury watches) are overthinking things a bit with this watch, which only happens to be one of the most classic watches of all time. Unfortunately on your comment about this particular Sub being ubiquitous is going to be more in truth than not as its classic for a reason, whether its actually real or not, but if you like the watch for you then that's all that matters at the end of the day.
Thanks for your insight, you have to remember this is a channel about my watch collecting journey. These are just thoughts and fun topics to introduce and talk about with other watch enthusiast.
I first bought it just because I could not afford a Sub, but when I did eventually buy the contemporary subs it just did not scratch the itch. It did not have the same charm and warmth to me. :)
IMO, most people who buy mechanical watches (let alone a popular brand like Rolex/Tudor/etc) don't really care about the history and the technicality of the watched and that's okay. Like your analogy with F1 its just entertaining and nothing else. I personally am not in the space to buy a super expensive mechanical watch and I've realised that name and the tech specs don't really matter. If you really want a utilitarian watch buy a Casio/Smart Watch, they are the ultimate tool watches.
Thanks for the insight. You might be new to this channel, I had to move away from digital watches, like G-shocks and smart watches because their batteries would always fail and go flat on me when I would be out snow camping. Therefor I switched to well build and designed mechanical watches, so now I don't have that issue.
FWIW, my 1970 Steeldive does all of the above. Except for the 0.5 spd. Mine is -4spd, unless I walk for 2 hours. Then it's + 8spd. That said, my Casio "Atomic" 5610 (on paper) blows both of our watches out of the water. A mechanical watch is all about je ne sais quoi than superb accuracy. (Dirty little secret. Mine cost 1/200 of yours! But it will never be considered as an investment!). There's no accounting for stupid. Time will tell. Economic forecasts exist to give astrologers a good name. -- John Kennith Galbraith
Love myself a good Casio, I have a G-shock 5600. However I had to move from digital watches to mechanical watches because the batteries keep going flat when I would be out snow camping, don't have that issue with mechanical watches.

If it's just for fun ,why are you worried so much what anyone else thinks . I bought my first sub (5512) in 1968 and it's the gem of my Submariner collection. Love all the models . Definitely my go to watch .
@@timmanion7459 Oh, I don't really care. Like I said in the video "might become more of my field watch" again I introduced a topic to talk about with other watch enthusiast. I haven't changed how I wear it.
@@cheynewallsI'm just happy that you have it and appreciate what a fine rugged watch that it is . I've dove spots all over the world with my subs and they've never failed me . Enjoy !!!
Sorry dude, but I think that interaction you mentioned was odd on both your parts. If he is buying a quality watch he does not need to know about lug width etc.etc. Where do you get your statistics on who buys it for what reason? Sounds like you are more bothered about what people feel than he does! Having a superiority complex about history and specs is pretty sad too. You are basically saying you are fit, rugged, fight bears in the wild, and he sniffs his secretary's chair when she is at lunch!
That is not what I intended, and if you re-watch the video I never said it was wrong of him to buy that watch. All I said is he bought it for a status symbol and it was interesting he didn't know anything about the watch, that is it. I never said there was anything wrong with that.
@@cheynewalls Not saying he was not a Dick, but it was you that spoke to him. People buy nice things when they have money and I just don't see that its automatically just a status symbol. There is a middle ground between enthusiast and overweight CEO flexing IMO. You and I know the lug width has gone up because it's important to us. Its just a nice watch (as it should be) to a lot of people. There really isn't a need to justify the purchase. Watch guys talk just as much BS in my experience. It's what people do.
I don't care what people think. I chose the Sub over other Rolexes because it has the best features. You'd get called out for wearing any Rolex if someone is a douchebag enough to call you out over a watch.
Thanks for your insight, you have to remember this is a channel about my watch collecting journey. These are just thoughts and fun topics to introduce and talk about with other watch enthusiast.
It’s terrible but I’ll probably only bite if they do a no date red letter. My exp2 tho, I daily. I’m more interested in a grand seiko or a speedmaster moonphase.
Rolexes aren't really tool watches. They're shiny things to impress other Rolex owners. In Mayfair, London, the Hedge people wouldn't be seen dead in a Rolex. The cleaner might wear one? But if you make money, it's a Patek at the very minimum. My "Rolex" friends wear theirs at the weekend. True the Exp and Exp 2 are much closer to their original concept, but the rest of the range is just nightclub "reflect the light" wear. If you are a proper diver, you absolutely can't wear anything that shiny. So let's all move on, and let's stop deluding ourselves that this watch means anything, to anybody apart from a silly girl in a club, or another Rolex man boy.
Well I disagree, timepieces can be a lot of things to a lot of people, but you are focusing on the superficial side. These are amazing pieces of mechanical engineering. Name something else that you can wear for decades and decades that will collect memory scratches, go with you on all the adventures of life and then you can hand it down your children to take part in their adventures. All while keep accurate time through bumps, bruises and the occasional hits on rocks and trees. Yes I'm a bit of a romantic on the subject, I just find them to be story telling devices. Some of my fondest memories are sitting in a pub listing to a family member talk about climbing in the Alps 30 years ago and his hand getting smashed by a falling rock and denting his wristwatch, the same watch currently on his wrist. Cheers
My grails would be a explorer ii or a stainless sub but that will be one day but I have the little brother the tudor black bay 41 that I wear everyday as a millwright in a chemical plant and I love it so much I also have zero hesitation to go to corporate events with my wife in it go hunting in the swamps around the house backpacking deepsea fishing bass fishing and would not hesitate to do basically anything in this watch and that's how I feel about the grails I would do that same
Paying 12k for a watch and being ashamed to wear it in public because it’s popular… I’ll gladly take it off your hands for you if you want to spare the embarrassment of having one 😂
Well ashamed is to strong of a word and I think your over simplifying. Either way I can never see myself getting rid of this amazing and I'll wear it proudly and put up with the negative comments.
I just tried to service a Rolex watch for ny wife's wrist and Rolex offered a service cost well over the watch's market value at 5500 USD!!! Market value 3500 USD.I aggreed because I love her but two months later they raised the price by 100 procent telling me it needed exclusive spare parts! For a product that is of poor quality that they should repair for free as it does not work as promised. Treating their customers as retards not telling them that the service cost is well over market value and dealing as if in a turkish bazar. What a scam company they are. They offer nothing compared to Omega or Grand Seiko in value or performance. I was on their rediculous waiting list for a Yachtmaster and a Datejust but told them to cancel me from the list as they treat their customers as garbage. My wife will get an Omega instead. The Omega seamaster ourtperforms the submariner all days of the week!!!
Wow, there is something wrong there, you got ripped off. Rolex would never charge that. Check out Adrian Barker channel, he completely smashed is Rolex Explorer II and it was only 800 Euros to fix it. I serviced any old Rolex Daytona, cost me 700 USD. Something is very wrong with your experience.
@@cheynewalls The watch is from the 90ies and thus had to be sent from Sweden to Switzerland for what they cann vintage repair. This was through an AD in Stoclholm. Nymans ur. I am bot lying. Why should ly about my experience with them?
Who cares about the “majority”? Judge the watch based on what SHOULD matter (your words). Be better than the judgmental clowns and you’ll come off cooler than they’ll ever be. Wear it with pride. That’s what 007 would do
😂 saying watch is aging on sides is hilarious, you don’t know how to clean your watch? Any superficial scratches are super easy to remove. 99% of watch wearers aren’t “watch guys” not just Rolex, same as 99% of Porsche buyers are racing them at the track 😱 Submariner is not a victim of anything it’s the greatest most iconic watch ever made, if you don’t like it trade to a Glasshute SeaQ and pretend like you’re a “watch guy” plus no one else will have your watch.
If I polished my watches I would have to spends hours a week doing it. I like the scratches, each one tells a story, I was just trying to say maybe a not so high polish would look better and more balanced to match the ceramic bezel. I get what your saying, and it an amazing watch.
@ I think you mean in a few years everyone will be able to walk in and buy a steel Daytona at retail. But then the price will be really high by then. I hope you are right.
Thanks for your insight, you have to remember this is a channel about my watch collecting journey. These are just thoughts and fun topics to introduce and talk about with other watch enthusiast.
@@cheynewalls The Rolex Submariner is one I the most Iconic watches ever made. Every time I see one, my mine starts to think of how sophisticated the watch looks with it's shiny 904L sides, toolish brush lugs and oyster bracelet. Just as at home in the wild as it is on the red carpet at Oscar night. A true Icon for watch enthusiast and it will always get a nod of respect by follow Rolex loves like myself. I don't own a Sub, but I truly love the watch. So for me, it is a total masterpiece for a watch enthusiast and Rolex lover. I have a GMT 116710LN and I've own it since 2010. I love this watch and it tells a story of my watch collecting journey of how I acquired it and all the times in my life that I worn this piece. This watch looks new because I don't like scratches on my watch and when I do anything where I can get it damaged I wear a $70 G shock. I don't wear my GMT so much right now, because I am in the honey moon phase with a 2024 Moon watch 3861, however, I still love my GMT and it is a Rolex. Every time I wear it, I think of how incredibly blessed I am to be able to wear such an amazing work of art that most people will never be able to experience. So for me, when I see someone with a watch like your Sub in the real world, I think of the person that is wearing it. I say to myself, how incredibly blessed this person must be to own such a piece. I hope every day he realizes how blessed he truly is and that he should never take it for grant. Love your watch, count your blessings and never take for granted that you can wear such a device that is coveted by millions.
I think you are just feeding to it. Your complain is that someone who wore this watch did not care about how good this watch was on the other hand you want to wear this watch just so other watch snobs will truly appreciate how good this watch is . Both feed the same thing , both are wearing it so someone else appreciates it . I own a sub and I wear it cause i love it! Sometimes I love the looks , sometimes I love how perfect it is , sometimes I love it for the fact I have Rolex and the brand gives sense of achievement and sometimes I love it for its tool watch aspect .
You have to remember this is a channel about my watch collecting journey. These are just thoughts and fun topics to introduce and talk about with other watch enthusiast. Also not quiet sure were you are getting "you want to wear this watch just so other watch snobs will truly appreciate how good this watch is". I wear this watch because its a great tool watch, nothing to do with showing anyone anything. If I could find a non Rolex watch that was as good a Rolex, I would love to have that watch without the Rolex branding. However out of the dozens and dozens of watches I have owned, none have equaled the toughness, accuracy and over robustness as a Rolex. But you are right maybe I should take that idea more to heart and just wear what I want and dam the rest.
You have to remember this is a channel about my watch collecting journey. These are just thoughts and fun topics to introduce and talk about with other watch enthusiast.
Cheers
Thanks for sharing your insight and thoughts.
Completely feel the same. I use the ceramic GMT as a crew life buddy. It’s so scratched up and looking forward to see how aged in next 10years. Let’s just enjoy these trusty beautiful “tool”.
I always enjoying your work!!
Thank you, Yes let’s just enjoy these trusty beautiful tool. Cheers
Cheers

@@frankv7068 Underrated comment :)
Very well said and good insight.
100% correct

The JLC Polaris Date has always been on my radar, you could be right, I'll take a closer look at it. Thanks, Cheers

A great watch, your right, can't go wrong. Cheers
With that 12 hour movement it really is. A date complication turns the 12 hour movement into a 24 hour movement, AND you have to set the date separately. A no-date Submariner is so much easier to live with. (Plus, it doesn't have that hideous cyclops).
Awesome input on this icon. Love to see watches being used.

Thanks
I'm sorry to hear about your watch collection. Thank you for your input and insight on your ownership of a Rolex Submariner. Cheers
Very good, a very underrated thing about these very well build mechanical timepieces is they can be handed down to the next generation. Cheers
Cheyne, I agree - the stigma attached to this watch dissuades me from wearing it. Great video as ever, Thankyou.
Cheers Matthew, Thank you for that.
Thanks for sharing that, we are in the same boat about the Rolex Submariner, such a great watch. Cheers and enjoy your trip!
Don't let the weirdos or society control your opinion of that icon.. wear it with pride!
Simple, I like that. Cheers
Few things made by human hands are perfect. The 126610LN is, in fact, perfect. :)
Well said, Cheers
I understand your point of view because I've been there before. Now I wear what I really like and I don't give a damn about other people's opinions. It comes with time, maturity and gray hair!
A good and sensible point. Cheers
i have the 126610ln after a 5 week wait from an ad.. and then 6 months later i was in the right place at the right time and got a 126610lv. both have a story of how i obtained them. but the lv.. everyone knows how special that is.

does your Bezel sound like a ting?? like metal ish sounding.
@cheynewalls thanks I'll give it a try.

I personally think the actual submariner without date is the better choice. Less ubiquitous and recognizable without the cyclops. I own a 114060 and will never part with it. I do see a fair amount of submariner dates in the wild, but the only submariners I see are on the wrists of watch enthusiasts.
Same. I own the 124060. All the awesomeness minus the peer pressure of "oh... so you bought a Sub, huh?"
Surfing! Good man. I will probably throw something else on but I’m not going to be surfing until February.
@@Dirtywesterner I just love that I can go out in the early morning, catch a few waves, go into work and meetings, then maybe go out for a formal meal wearing the Rolex Submariner through it all.
For my 7.5" wrist the latest Explorer and Submariner (not date) are possibly the perfect two watch collection.
Indeed, a great two watch collection.
Cheers
Good advice, your right its all about what makes you happy, Cheers
out of all of the watches you have ever had, which one would you say is your favorite (to wear)
Oh that is a tough one. Right now it is probably a tie between the Rolex Explorer II and Rolex Explorer 40. But then also I loved wearing my Breitling Aviator 8 B01 Chronograph Mosquito, it was just to fragile and keep breaking. Cheers
the polished sides will patina over time just keep wearing it... i wear my 126610lv everyday! cheers!
Yeah, good point.
Indeed, a lot of other great watches are available. I'll ways had my eye on a JLC Reverso. Thanks for your input.
If anyone ever did I’d say “it’s my colostomy bag, you want to look?”
Don’t care how many are out there.
“This is my Rifle, there are many like it but this one is mine” …Full Metal Jacket
Yeah a great watch, I feel the same with my Rolex watches, last thing I take off a night, first thing I put on in the morning to start my day.
OMG, the G23 is such a boring gun. I'll take the CZ-P07 over any Glock every time.
Yes, a watch for everybody, it is an interesting thing it has such a massive following. Cheers
I’m 70 days into my no date and I’m not taking it off. Ever. I have 45+ watches 2-3 of them Tudors ,half a dozen Seikos ,Chinese watches etc but this one is not leaving my wrist even at night …
I was the same way when I first got my Rolex Submariner. Even now I find myself not wanting to take it off. Cheers
Thanks for your thoughtful insight. Your right "than anything, how they make you feel" Cheers

Great to hear that, the Tudor Prince Oysterdate 74034 is a great watch.
Thank you, You are right, the Rolex Submariner is an amazing watch and I did dive a little to deep on my analysis. Cheers
@@mileswoodard4278 Oh very cool, that is a killer watch, enjoy.
Will do, keep up the good work Cheyne. Have a great weekend!
Who cares what other people think! You do you bro!
Thanks for your input, your right.
Looks good bruh
Yeah, I hearing if I just scratch it up enough it will look brushed.
Had a 124060 for a few months then traded it for a VC overseas. No regrets.
Yeah, the VC Overseas is definitely on my radar.
Have to love the brushed sides of the omega series. Hide the day-today scratches.
It is a good look.
Its heartbreaking to hear people buy these for status and status alone... buy a Day/Date if you don't care. There is so much history and engineering that makes it so amazing. But it is a victim of its own success
Indeed, thanks for your input. Cheers
Hi, Cheyne
You are right about F1 it has become very corporate as a sport but that is where the money is
Not enough focus on the team and the car as you can see with Lewis Hamilton he has a poor car and is nowhere this proves how important the team and the car are.
The issue with the Submariner is the popularity and the fact that it is the most copied watch around
But that shows how good it is
I work in motorsport and over the last few years (I call it the 'Netflix Generation'), the number of 'fans' entering the sport that look down on you has increased a lot.
Cheers
Let’s hope the team come up with a great car to make the championship more interesting
@@dalewood6361 Hopefully will have a 4 team battle up front next year.
Great watch. I'll never buy a Rolex though, I refuse to play the AD game
Well put, I agree with everything and I do enjoy rotating in my G-Shock 5600. Cheers
If you think this was bad, wait 'till you meet a Daytona owner. Most don't even set the time, let alone know how to use the Tachymeter or the Chronograph.
Buy a Speedmaster 3861 Sapphire to go along your Rolex watches and no one will question your passion for watches again.
That could be a nice fit, I really like the Omega Speedmaster.
Yep, that is how I went back to my Omega Seamaster.
Omega Seamaster is a great watch.

Love myself a good Casio, I have a G-shock 5600. However I had to move from digital watches to mechanical watches because the batteries keep going flat when I would be out snow camping, don't have that issue with mechanical watches.
Bro , the hell what anyone else thinks . It's an awesome watch. Screw everyone else and what they think . Wow !
You have to remember this is a channel about my watch collecting journey. These are just thoughts and fun topics to introduce and talk about with other watch enthusiast.
Enjoy !!!
@@timmanion7459 Cheers
Your explorer II would be a better field watch, no?
Both watches are great in the field, but yes my Rolex Explorer II is a bit tougher and better designed for field use. Cheers
I have a black PO 600 but soon I will add a no date sub.
Its an amazing watch, Cheers
It’s terrible but I’ll probably only bite if they do a no date red letter. My exp2 tho, I daily. I’m more interested in a grand seiko or a speedmaster moonphase.
Both the Grand Seiko and Speedmaster moonphase are great watches.
The Sub is a victim of its detractors non success™
Sounds like you want a Tudor Pelagos
You're the fifth person to say, have to give it some thought.
It’s a great watch as long as nobody sees it on me 🤭
No its a great watch, period.
@@cheynewallshe’s lying
@@cheynewalls The watch is from the 90ies and thus had to be sent from Sweden to Switzerland for what they cann vintage repair. This was through an AD in Stoclholm. Nymans ur. I am bot lying. Why should ly about my experience with them?
Who cares about the “majority”? Judge the watch based on what SHOULD matter (your words). Be better than the judgmental clowns and you’ll come off cooler than they’ll ever be. Wear it with pride. That’s what 007 would do
Well if that's 007 would do, I'll follow. :) Cheers
Sell it. Get yourself a speedy and a pelagos 39. You'll thank me in the morning
Thanks for the input, I'll look into that.
Hahahahahaha black sub date is NOT hard to get and everyone's got one. Land a stainless daytona is a bit harder to come by.
Thanks for your input.
over few year after, everyone can get full steel daytona in retail store, but the price already build up to very high😅
@ I think you mean in a few years everyone will be able to walk in and buy a steel Daytona at retail. But then the price will be really high by then.

I'm sorry you think that
Rolex is overrated
How so?
Why, because you can’t afford one?
I think you are just feeding to it. Your complain is that someone who wore this watch did not care about how good this watch was on the other hand you want to wear this watch just so other watch snobs will truly appreciate how good this watch is . Both feed the same thing , both are wearing it so someone else appreciates it . I own a sub and I wear it cause i love it! Sometimes I love the looks , sometimes I love how perfect it is , sometimes I love it for the fact I have Rolex and the brand gives sense of achievement and sometimes I love it for its tool watch aspect .
