Yes I visited Rio de Janeiro for 30 days in 2019. I stayed in the downtown area where I stayed in a nice hotel 🏨 for 26 days and paid about 26 dollars a day including breakfast. It was easy to get around all of Rio because the public transportation and taxi 🚕 were plentiful they even had open air markets where you could buy goods. If you go to Rio give the downtown area a look. Oh yeah my hotel was right across the street from a police 🚔 station an added benefit.

Hey. Nice for taking the time and let us know. I am planning a trip to Rio in less than a month. Will be there for 5 days max. And I like downtown areas because of the infrastructure-history, and Dynamics, etc. Also, I don't care much about the beach as I live in Miami Beach, 10 minute walk from where I live...could you recommend the hotel or hotels you stayed in? Thank you.

My dream for 20 + years is to visit Rio ever since I was younger, I used to watch Brazilian soap operas “uga uga” & “ el clon” & since then it’s been my dream to visit. I hope I make it out there soon. Thanks for showing this part of rio which I haven’t seen yet on TH-cam. You can see the European influence in this part of the city.

The media just use stereotype about Brazil. They need to sell news and its movies.
This country is more than soccer, poorvety and samba.
We are not a developed country (DHI: 0,759), but we are not like the worst African country and "just" 08% Brazilians have been living in favelas.

When you come to Paris you need to see it and go inside(outside is just the tip of the Iceberg)...The museum of Tomorrow from ground didnt look like too much from the ground but with drone footage...🤯 Its humongous...this outshell over water made me think of a blue whale rib cage of some sort...i will defo explore this area when i go...loved the mural...id seen it before but even now loosing its brighter freshly paint looks its still very beautiful what an Epic art peace ❤

Rio downtown had a huge old monastery, "religious school", on top of the ancient Morro do Castelo (Castelo Hill), both were demolished in 1922 and the hill was all taken over by a slum, but both were wonderful. It was built in the 17th century and was located some streets to the weast of the Rio Branco Avenue, if you look at from the Candelária.

I can't even imagine traveling the world like you guys. I was 40 becore my 1st trip out of the US and had big plans to see some of the world but literally after picking a country out of a hat I met someone in the airport and after 40 years of bachelorhood with no kids she's now my wife and came as package deal with 2 kids that I adore also. Now travel plans have been massively slowed down for a decade or so until the kids are on their own...haha We still plan to travel some, but travel cost for 1 is a lot different than travel cost for 4...haha

It’s interesting that people are so surprised about Rio’s architecture, Rio won the first UNESCO world capital of architecture prize in 2020, Rio has a lot of interesting architecture and not just the traditional buildings, of course it has it’s skyscraper monstrosities like any other modern city as business people tend to put profits over aesthetic, but it also has very unique and cool modern architecture, after WWII Brazil received a lot of former Bauhaus students who then became teacher and influenced a whole generation of arts students in Bauhaus-like design. Rio was a big arts capital in the 60s , 70s and 80s even after it stopped being the actual capital, only more recently has São Paulo taken over as more of an arts center than Rio (which in part is just from the sheer volume of people in SP as the city has a much easier time growing geographically and Rio has become increasingly expensive for your typical art professional)You guys should’ve entered the “weird” church, it is actually very cool in there.

Next to the "Opera House" (which is the Municipal Theater), there are also The National Museum of Fine Arts, The National Library and The Cultural Center of the Federal Justice. That Avenue (Rio Branco) and the one behind it (Primeiro de Março Avenue) are usually called "The Cultural Corridor", because of the many cultural centers, museums, art galleries, theaters, concert halls, movie theaters, and also because of the historical builds around them. The square you were at is known as "Cinelândia", because in the past there used to be many movie theaters (cinemas) there. Downtown Rio (the Center of the city) is full of history. It's truly worth it to walk around it and, if possible, make a tour with a guide along those streets.
