There are also accelerated MSNP (masters of science in nurse practitioner) programs which you do not need a nursing bachelor’s or RN to get into. These programs are limited but they do exist. You need many pre-reqs and a bachelor’s in any field, as well as letters of recommendation and likely experience in the medical field.

I have a degree in nutrition and dietetics also!!! Love hearing about others that do too who are going into medicine. I’m applying to PA school this year and am hella nervous but I’m hoping for the best! Hope to make pre-med content like you someday😊

You don’t necessarily need a BSN to become a NP. I’m currently in a ADN to MSN bridge program which will take me 2 years and 8-mos to complete. I had already obtained a Bachelors in Biology. There was no need for me to obtain a second Bachelors to get an MSN.

Absolutely right! I have a bachelor's in child development and there are many programs that are accelerated MSN for non-nursing majors and range from 11 to 24 months.

True, but those accelerated MSN programs typically aren't for NP. Majority of the MSN programs require an RN liscence before acceptance. He is able to bridge because he is already a nurse.

I have decided to go NP. I am in nursing school at the moment to get my ADN. I finish next year. After that, I plan on attending an online school to get my BSN and NP degrees. I don't have time to sit and apply for dozens of schools, go on interviews, and obtain all the PCE that is required for PA school. I just wanna get my darn career rolling 😂

also wanted to add. as far as anesthesia, pre PA majors can go to AA school if they want to instead and practice for the most part to the same degree as CRNAs

How do we work as a RN and go to PA school? Just asking because I have bills and if I go to PA school I need to study as well right? I couldn’t work in RN school.
How do you get accepted into PA school?

You can’t work in most PA school. And to get into a PA school you need clinical hours and pre reqs which varies depending on the school

You would live on student loans & be broke. You cannot work in PA . Np school it is possible from what I’ve heard & researched. I’m an RN and have been been trying to decide. But, I’m older, 45. If your young, just do what you want now. PA has more room to move around and be flexible. But otherwise both are great careers. Np not RN . Nursing is saturated now IMO . Student loans are so low interest, just don’t worry about that .

You definitely can, just keep in mind that you’re probably gonna have to answer why you chose PA versus NP during your interview

Sadly it's not that easy. Getting into medical school costs hundreds, sometimes thousands of dollars on application fees and MCAT prep. Plus it is time-consuming if you have to reapply for multiple cycles. Heck, even PA school is like this too. Very competitive and once you get in, the costly tuition is there to bite ya in the butt. Not to mention, the years it takes to become a fully licensed physician. I am going for my ADN, then I will obtain my BSN and MSN-NP degrees online. If all goes as planned, I'll be a fully licensed NP by 2024. That would easily be doubled or tripled if I went the medical school or PA route. I don't have time to waste. I wanna get moving with my career
