      Great league, ex major leaguers, possible future major leaguers, guys who just love to play all ages and all skill levels. You don't have to be with crazy skills to participate. Wood bats only, mlb rules look it up. Leagues all over the US. I play here in Los Angeles. Getting ready for the the final of the season in AZ the month of Oct. We get all the practice facilities and stadiums the pros have out there. Teams and players from all over the US and further.

    Great tip! For the younger kids, I think the key is that the pitcher knows to cover, and #3 knows pitcher is covering, so it takes a little pressure off of stressing on if they will make it to the bag. Any little bobble, and the player may not make the base.

      @@akumpo2819 exactly, knowing that pitch covers the base is something all players need to remember, you guys gotta by in sync, take a lot of pressure off.

    Think that positioning scales down to 60' youth baseball leagues? The first baseman should have relatively smaller steps, too.
    I remember my pitchers and second basemen not having a good sense of timing and just throwing the ball towards first if I was there yet or not, but that's a different lesson.

    This is a fantastic explanation! My son, who is a pitcher- DEFINITELY appreciates guys who are playing to take away hits!! Pitcher needs to do his job too- talk to the first baseman- run the banana route to help out off the mound.

  • @Mitten4371
    @Mitten4371 ปีที่แล้ว

    See I played firstbase from little league to highschool and played travel baseball at age 13 for coaches that played pro or college. But he's right in order to play firstbase you need to be able to cover some ground but I can't stress enough on how communication is in baseball. Because you also need to see where the second baseman is playing because the second baseman might be having to cover second base and so you need to cover some ground. But he might also be playing to pull but you communicate with your second baseman before the pitch is thrown in knowing what to do. But pitchers and firstbase man needs to practice in feeding the ball with the pitcher covering firstbase

    Assuming your steps = 1 ft/step, you’d be ~14.4 feet from the bag. (12 steps up the line)^2 + (8 steps over)^2 = (14.4 steps)^2

    I played in a men’s softball league, I played as far back as I could. I played at least 90 feet back. I could cover those extra 30 steps, before having to ground out fastballs all day.

    Man--I've been playing this position all wrong. Thank you! Off the subject, but do you have a video that addresses ML travel? I'm a Rockies fan and recently they went from Boston to Philly to Pittsburgh. Would they fly charter jets between clubs this close geographically or take motor coach or what? Thank you Matt.

  • @jpluv2run

    Nothing harder in the game than turning your back on the play to get to the bag. Then turn and find a probably wild throw to again adjust to and catch. It’s an instinct position. Positioning is critical
