Hi Jay. You definitely have wonderful subscribers. I have been using Roman Szmal Aquarius for a while now. They are fantastic pigments, as you can see. Unbeatable in its price range. Top quality for me. They have a wide range of colors, mostly monopigment. I love to paint with them. Roman Szmal is a small company that makes almost handmade watercolors. I think it will take time to see tubes of this brand. I read somewhere, that the manufacture in tubes would implement a rise in prices, and for the moment they are only going to manufacture Godets. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do. Great review again and happy for you.
Thank you Jose 🙏 Yes. I definitely have wonderful subscribers. I'm very lucky 😊 Thank you for the information in regards to Roman Szmal making tubes in the future. That makes perfect sense. It's great to hear you're enjoying the Roman Szmal Aquarius Watercolors. I'm pretty sure I'm going to enjoy them too ☺️
Great colors, I hope you enjoy painting with them! Admittedly it is my most used brand for the past year, they always bring me such joy to play with the granulation. Both Shadow Violet and Aquarius Green separate and granulate, but if you apply the swatch evenly you may not notice it. When I want this effect I drop them messily wet in wet and leave them alone to separate with almost no brush strokes at all. Sometimes I like to do "gravity" tests by tilting the paper. This way the heavy pigments settle and the lighter flow with the water. Of course the granulation effect depends on the paper as well. If I could choose only one brand it would definitely be this one, even if they are only in pans haha!
My fave! Absolutely looove them. Aquarius green is my fave colour of all. Have seen many people ditch DS undersea green for the aquarius green. I love all mine! I don't mind them being on pans cause they rewet so easily. I love Holbein Quin Gold and Jackson's own. This one does not seem to pop as much as the other 2. The mineral violet is also amazing and the granulation is gorgeous and so is their potters pink which i am ordering more of. Try if you can get your hands on it. Have you tried their Quin burnt sienna ? It is divine! I want one of each lol
I'll have to test it alongside the quin golds I have. Potters Pink is new to me but I have a couple of pans from different brands here. The granulation is very nice but I'm not sure how often I would use it
I absolutely love Roman Szmal paints. I would suggest the colors Buff Titanium, Potter's Pink, Ocean Blue, Cad Red Deep, and some of their deep violets/greys that separate in several colors. At least for illustration they're really hot!
Thank you for the recommendations 🙏 I like the colors I have here so far. I've surprisingly found myself using the Shadow Violet, Perylene and Aquarius Greens quite a lot. Potters Pink is a pigment that has never appealed to me in the past but trying in a couple of brands recently has got me more interested 😂
I bought mine around 2 years ago, but am only just starting to use them, until recently I had nowhere to work. I am really loving them, and no regrets at all, except thre or four pastels I included and am unlikely to use. They do come very sticky, but once in use are not sticky at all and the large pans are great to use. One warning though, if you like using a lot of water while working and need to dry your pans thoroughly afterwards make sure you keep you tin in a cat proof place, I had left mine for a bit with the inner flap covering the drying pans, and my cat sat on the whole thing and groomed herself! At either end of the tin the paints acquired a mix of dander and hair! It took me ages to clean out! The yellows at one end and purples and blues at the other! Tip: a thick needle is better at lifting pet hair than anything else….. less sticky paints do not have this issue….
I love Roman szmal’s! I think they run out much quickly the others. Earth colors seems so nice, I do have shadow violet and I love it, mineral violet is so wonderful too. I love them all. I love painting with them and looking forward ti buy more. Also I love that they come full pans
Very nice palette. Thanks for searching it. Roman Szmal paints are very difficult to get in the US and I haven’t tried because my experience with paints from that part of the world is that they are very vibrant but more opaque than I prefer. But I might have to put in an order for a sample set. I really liked the greens. Thanks!
Oh I didn't know they were difficult to get in the US. I guess shipping them from Europe takes a while? The sample set is pretty cheap in the Jackson's sale at the moment.
Nice swatches. I got 9 Roman Small paints for Christmas and really liked them. I picked pigments or mixes I didn't have from other brands. Since you liked PBk31, you should try Holbein's version (Shadow Green). It's even darker than Roman Szmal's or Schmincke's.
Oh yes I saw that Holbein have a version of PBk31 too. In the past I kept thinking about getting it but it's series D and too expensive for a color I didn't know if I'd like. Now I know that I like the pigment I will try it in the future. 😊
I love Roman Szmal paints.... even though they're honey based, they're a lot better in the Australian climate that Sennelier paints (also honey based). I'm not sure if they'll produce tubed paints... could be a cost issue? I think the pans are reasonably priced too.... thanks for the swatch and review.
Thank you for reviewing your selection. I have a couple of RS greens and the lapis lazuli which of course was expensive but I’m pleased with it. It works well in some skies, it was worth the extra. I have been thinking about trying the RS quin gold as my Daniel Smith quin gold is almost gone. I too hope they will start to produce paint in tubes.
Hi Jay, thanks for sharing. Such a kind gift.....I do have a few of these and enjoy using them. Perhaps you might upload a video of you trying them out😉
aww such a kind subscriber to send these to you! 🥰🌸♥ a big thank you to he/she too so you're able to do these vids for us 😆 do you like the PY184 for a lemon yellow or still prefer rembrandt's cad lemon? and yayy for cobalt blue! :D i love the indian red, glad you love it too :D shadow violet... i find that it requires a lot of water for the separation to show. did i hype RS too much? 🤣 my RS palette almost exclusively contains RS earth colours. i think i might get a cool yellow, magenta, and cerulean from them in 2023 so it could be a usable RS palette 😂😂
I still prefer the Rembrandt cadmium lemon but the more I use the Roman Szmal, the more I like them. Which cool yellow do you think you would get? The PY184 is very nice.
I remember how excited I was when these paints were finally in the shops. When I got them... I wasn't happy. I suspect there is something wrong with binder in Aquarius. Around summer, they melt like hot caramel, and it's impossible to use them without mess around. I'm sure they use Kremer's pigments because Szmal is one of the distributors of their pigments. I tried both of their watercolours and liked Kremer ones much better.
It's a shame you didn't like them. I haven't had any problems with them so far. Here in the Thailand heat they are a little sticky but definitely not melting like caramel. I've heard that Kremer watercolors are great quality. That's one more brand on the future list.
Interesting, because it is one of the few artist grade brands that retails in the country I live. I am in the process pf upgrading my paints and this is an option. Think I would avoid those multi pigment mixes though.
some of these colors really stand out to me and make me want to use them. some of these super clarity colors.... quin gold, olive green light, pthalo blue RS (doesn't look as overpowering as they sometimes are). WONDERING -- does the payne's grey have a slight greenish cast? i have an ancient MaiMeri Indigo i was given and i really like it, it has a slight green and makes me think of stormy crazy skies (tornadoes), buuuuuut they made it with PB27. -___- *i'm on a search for prussian-similar shades in whatever brand, any lightfast pigments.* prussian blues and greens. anyone know any?? :)

I find swatching out paints very helpful and love your tutorials. This set of watercolors are really nice!
You can "cut" out the paint from the pan to put in a palette with a cutter / palette knife that's what I did it works
Oh yes you're right I could do that. Plus Roman Szmal are pretty soft so they should come out relatively easily.

I love them too. I think they are great in the Australian climate. I would love to see an Australian distributor one day.
@@artbycatfitz Adamstown Art stocks them on their website!
I like the idea of a Quinacridone Gold comparison video 👍🏼
I have heard a lot of good things about Roman Szmal but I've never tried them. I like the way they look though. Those are some pretty colors.
