    Hi Jen, when I saw your video in my feed I was like: "Oh, that's my Flute!". I just want to comment that I've had the GX heavy wall for about a year now ( I've named her Augustine). She's really great and I really recommend buying this flute. When I preform I'm told that my tone with this flute really carries throughout the room. I personally use a lot of air when I play so I guess the heavy wall really allows me to control my air. I also love the mechanisms, it really allows me to to be free in the faster sections of some pieces. Truly a masterpiece as a flute and I feel like maybe symbolically a bird in some way. Just thought I'd note to anyone who was looking to buy it. ^^

    Hey Joanna! Just an idea that came to mind; How about doing a review of various headjoints upgrade available (possibly different brands), for those who are looking into upgrading just the headjoint for beginner/intermediate flutes. Because it may be much affordable upgrade than to replace the entire flute. so yeah! =D

    • @infamousBlader

      Anna E Nuvo flutes are made of plastic and have silicone pads. They are interesting because people say they sound excellent despite being inexpensive and made of plastic.

    • @aluvrianne
      @aluvrianne 7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      They do have a nice sound, warm and mellow. In my experience in owning
      one, the mechanism is a bit mushy feeling and the upper registers can be
      harder to get out. They're designed as beginner flutes and for that they fit the bill. I honestly got mine so I could take some of the strain off my right shoulder (Nuvos are super light) and because I wanted the world's greatest bath toy.

    I'd love to see you do a review of the Haynes Amadeus/Ventus line (I think they're the same, just different branding), particularly the Amadeus 680/Ventus 600, as that's my baby right now. I'd love to know what you think of it, but I'm sure you have more pressing reviews in the queue right now.

  • @dainerflute
    @dainerflute 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    good job! the Muramatsu flutes are really high end instruments. The brand has a consistency in the sound in the scale, and the Tsubasa hjoint works well for me. It helps in the sound and articulation. Therefore, it demands a good air support, and a resonance throughout the body and face. Nice that you compared the standard and heavy wall models. Regards!

    One thing that might be interesting to try is trying a flute brand's "intermediate" line like the Powell vs. the Powell Sonare; the Azumi vs. the Altus or the Amadeus vs. the Haynes. Try and keep the specs similar (solid silver body but plated mechanism) to see where the differences are (besides the prices!) +JustAnotherFlutist

  • @gregg8789

    your wall thickness is off on the muramatsu flutes. The heavy wall is .017 and the light wall is .015 and gold is .011.

    I'm back again cause I just remembered something heh
    I'm looking to buy a new flute, and apparently I work really well with Trevor James, specifically the Cantabile and the Virtuoso
    But as far as reviews go, they're very mixed and I can't seem to find much about the actual durability of the flute (will I have to constantly send it to the shop?) I'm only going to be using it in wind ensemble but I want it to last a while so I don't have to spend another $1500+ :P
    If you know anything about that it would be really appreciated :3

    i have a haynes classic headjoint on my ventus, and my friends were really shocked how little effort they needed to play it. I also found playing band music, many of my trick fingerings are surprisingly in tune. I often check the 8 Bb (thumb, lever, and standard 1+1) the 3 in the lowest, middle, and 2 in the highest (there is a good alternate Bb in the highest register that is flatter, but good for band keys or stable long notes especially on piccolo) i also check the open hole Ab trick fingering and they are in tune. I was surprised how well murimatsu flutes do in those registers, i checked it against a friend's altus and it has a very sweet sound comparatively. this is just what i know from trying them in comparison.

    This Christmas I wanted to get an instrument to learn something new. I've been playing piano for 3 years but I wanted to learn another instrument. I was bouncing around from different instruments but settled on the flute after I found your channel. I absolutely fell in love with the flute! I bought the Di Zhao model 201from FNCY (using your code of course). I already have learned some of the basics, and can't wait to learn more.Thanks so much for inspiring me!

    • @rayaenelmar4283
      @rayaenelmar4283 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The tone is nicer and the fingers grip or grab the instrument much much better, so you have better control when playing fast passages. You can buy an open holes instrument and keep the pads on the keys that make you problems to shut the hole. While doing so, push the pads inside the hole a little bit so you can feel the ring and hopefully get your fingers used to open hole.. good luck

    I had this flute instructor for a conference held to help with an upcoming audition and they said you should never change your embouchure while playing and you should only change your air... is that right because I catch myself doing it all the time especially on piccolo.

    • @JustAnotherFlutist
      @JustAnotherFlutist  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's really a combination of both, and each flutist will approach it slightly differently because it really depends on your natural mouth/embouchure formation. Have fun with it and experiment! :D

    JAF what do you think about the EX vs GX?

    • @patrickkoh1056
      @patrickkoh1056 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Read a lot of blogs in them,. I tried EX but decided better for long term to go for a GX. For beginner no big diff, but if you are advanced, you would find the GX better and DS far better. GX is full silver with better headjoint, build and care. It scores 4.9/5.0 on par with the equiv powell. EX scores 4.7/5 and rated less than a few other equiv in its class. If u can afford it get the GX as being full silver easier to maintain as well, silver plate will go one day. An oddball EX with a vg headjoint it could sound better than a GX with a mediocre hj as well, someone said that when trying many flutes...but from what i hear from Joanna, how one blows is very important. on first blow, u may be misled as we develop dif ways when used to another flute....so play and play and make your own decision. Either EX or GX is a good choice, but it is subjective because a powell, altus or miyazawa may be preferred for each individual over a marumatsu.

    I have a question. I just purchased a flute after renting one for 3 years. It sounds really good, but there is one thing that's bugging me. The silver on the inside of my head joint is not shiny and looks 'cloudy' while the other joints are nice and polished. Should it look like that and I'm just being paranoid? It was reasonably expensive 😂

    Can you talk more about the idea of the ball in your mouth and how you spit in? I am assuming you mean you are moving your tongue to create more space and move the ball. Dr. Perlove mentions something like this in one of her videos, but I have never heard anyone else talk about it. I was raised as a reed playing and the reed provides immediate resistance and controlling the air on the flute is a totally different beast.
