    I have a pearl 525 but was unhappy with the sound it made, it was always extremely sharp in tuning also. Now I’m very happy with my Miyazawa :) pearl is a great brand, I guess it’s not for everyone

      Im really sorry but the 525 is probably pearls worst model, even sellers think its bad, in comparison to all other pearl flutes it sell for the least BY FAR. Miyazawas are like beautiful unicorns whist pearl 525s are like blobfish

    I have an earlier model of the Pearl 795, and it has a 10 karat gold lip plate on it instead of the 3 karat. I’ve had it for over a year now, and I love it. It took me a long time to get used to it, but now that I am used to it, I couldn’t imagine playing on anything else. It plays really easily, and I love the balance I get between the gold and solid silver. I feel that the gold gives you just enough to play around with soft tones. I love the Forza head joint. I feel that the cut of it also helps direct more air into the flute and it helps with embouchure flexibility. I’m an undergrad music ed student, and I can honestly say that this flute is one of the best options if you’re looking for something affordable that plays well, has the accommodations of C# trill, split E, and D# roller, and will last you a long time. It is certainly a good instrument to have before dishing out a lot money for a more professional flute. Pearl also offers great repair services. Thank you for the review. It helped solidify my choice of this instrument when I bought it last year.

    And people say that Slytherins are evil! You’re so sweet! My elementary school made quidditch a gym unit using soft gator skin balls and hula hoops as goals propped on the basketball hoops. We even had a golden snitch!

      @JustAnotherFlutist  6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      THAT'S AMAZING!! I was in denial that I was Slytherin for a long time. The first time I took a super in-depth personality test to get sorted (this was before Pottermore), I was sorted into Slytherin, but I wanted to be Ravenclaw so badly that I went back to change all my answers so I would be Ravenclaw. It took me a whole year to realize that that was a really Slytherin thing to do... 😂

    I have the 765 40th anniversary edition, same features as the 795. Props to you for the pianissimo. The Forza headjoint gives an awesome big sound, but it's so hard to dial down. I agree, all the extras as standard totally makes sense. I don't see myself upgrading any time soon, if ever.

  • @brendinho1993
    @brendinho1993 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I have the Elegante, but I bought it back when the C# trill, gold lip and D# roller weren't standard. So my flute is a 795 Elegante CODA (the coda package added the trill, roller and a Forza headjoint with 10K lipplate, not a 3K). Unbelievable projection, and the low notes pop right out (the Firebird excerpt is no problem)! And then I upgraded to a Powell 14K Aurumite headjoint. My projection took a serious hit, but the articulation is a lot easier. Clear double tonguing in all dynamics was a struggle with the Forza. I also found it hard to control the Forza's intonation in the high register for any dynamic below mf, without pushing the "ball of air" waaaay back. High G and G# are a disaster.

  • @michaelpdawson
    @michaelpdawson 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I love my Elegante Coda. I'm all about Pearl flutes: I have a piccolo, alto, bass, and two concert flutes from them. The Elegante is my "good" flute, and an old 665 is the knockabout flute that I take to bar jams and open mics, where it has been knocked over, had drinks spilled on it, etc...

    This might be a hard question to ask but could you possibly do videos on people who double on the flute like myself (primary is tuba). I mainly play flute for masses. I am pretty heavy handed so this video helped and the price point was great for what I do as well. Thanks!

      I'm curious, I always thought that flute and brass didn't mix. I thought about doing trumpet once and the music shop guy said the embouchure was completely the opposite, based on strength, whereas the flute was more about control. I didn't do it because I thought trumpet would ruin my flute. Do you find the two work against each other?

    Your face when you said "I hope I said that right" was so funny 😂 And yes you did. The basics at least. Your accent is just veeeeeeryyyyy strongly American, it almost hurts my heart hearing beautiful Italian words being massacred. Dolce, Forza, elegante, vigore, piano and all the other Italian music terms. Don't worry, I still love you, though! ^_^ I can't blame you, you don't know better + it's not easy to learn a whole new accent/language. Still, I'd give a lot to drill the Italian accent into you ;-)
    These flutes are beautiful as always! It took my a while to get to watch the video today but that's because we went on a trip to our house today. We were out all day.

    • @JustAnotherFlutist

      LOLLLL!!! Gotta practice my Italian accent! If you haven't seen it already, go check out my Composer or Pasta video. Your ears and brain will probably bleed, but you might cry laughing too 😂

    • @flowerdolphin8920
      @flowerdolphin8920 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      JustAnotherFlutist oh Joanna 😂 I only ever managed to get halfway with that video, it's incredible how many words you guys butchered completely but then you got others with the same rules relatively correct. Still I wanna call you right now and teach you the rules of Italian pronunciation. That was my personal hell right there & I wanna fix it so bad 😂 the video itself is quite amusing, but not as funny as that French meringue video. That one had me rolling in tears 🤣🤣

      Temporary fix: wrap plumber's tape (white Teflon) around the tenon. There's no glue and no residue so you won't damage anything. But see a real repair tech soon.

    Hey Joanna can you do a review on the Armstrong 104 Model Beginner Flute. This is the school owned flute that I am using right now in 11th grade, and usually beginner flutists can't get low notes out and there low F all the way down to low C sound very airy, but that doesn't seem to be the problem for me, These are the beefiest Low F E D and C's I have ever heard and played. As you already know and I'm planning on going to music school with the Flute being my second instrument and I wanted to know if the Armstrong 104 Model Beginner Flute would be a good choice. I just love the tone quality in the low register, it's just so Warm and Dark and Resonant and Beefy. I just love this Flute.

    • @JustAnotherFlutist
      @JustAnotherFlutist  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hm, it appears that FCNY only has an Armstrong alto and bass, but I hope it's something I can review in the future!

    • @jackiedavis3439
      @jackiedavis3439 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I recommend a silver headjoint. Silver makes the low notes even beefier and easier. I play a Armstrong 100 which is about the same as 104 but with a silver headjoint.

    Hi Joanna, so I'm hoping to get a piccolo in the next year or so, but I don't know where to start looking. I'm more of an intermediate player on the piccolo. Do you have any advice?

    • @JustAnotherFlutist
      @JustAnotherFlutist  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Start with your budget! Then find some within your price range and try them out. Listen for tone colour and ease of playing. You'll need to think about what you're using the piccolo for, and after a few trials, you'll get a feel for what you're looking for. Flute festivals are the best for this!

    Some things I wish you would do in your videos are: 1) use a compressor on your recordings. It will make listening to your playing a whole lot easier when you force your high notes. Thinking a bit more about mic technique would be helpful too. Number two, please make a conclusion which states which flute you prefer and why. A review only has value to me if there are opinions expressed. You're smart enough and a good enough player to say which flute you prefer. It doesn't mean that it's the absolute truth, just your opinion and I'd like to hear it. Thank you. PS: I have a 795 and big hands.

      That's a tough one. I have heard of some people doing double degrees or double majors as a compromise with their parents, and I've also heard of people completing the degree their parents wanted first before completing a music degree. There are actually many ways to get around it, and you do have a lot of time to get it done while you're still young. 😊

      Maybe they would be more convinced if you show you do your homework about what that career path entails, that you have looked at it in detail, talked with people who do it, know the pros and cons and still feel passionate about it, are under no illusions about the hard work and money prospects. And that you have others like your flute teacher saying you're that good and have real potential. And to show a good work ethic in other areas. If you show you can make a living out of it and have a plan then they could probably possibly accept it, grudgingly or less grudgingly. And I think if you do that homework it might make things clearer for you too.

      Fun fact: J-P Rampal started in med school but made it into the Paris Conservatoire. Seriously, if you consider the life skills that you need to pursue a career in music, it's a well rounded education.

    Your reviews are always the best! 😩🙌 I'm still watching the video but the pearl 695 seems *very* similar to the way that I play. Also i have a question. How do I know whether I put in a lot of air into my flute? I'm not really sure whether or not I play with a lot of air or not

    • @JustAnotherFlutist
      @JustAnotherFlutist  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's more the feeling of how the flute responds to you. If you feel like you're constantly having to suppress yourself, your flute might not be able to take as much air as others. If you constantly feel like you can never "fill out" your flute, it might be cut to be as free-flowing as possible. So you really just need to try other flutes to get a good idea 😊

      JustAnotherFlutist oh ok thank you! Do you think you could make a video one day talking about professional pit orchestras & how to play in one? Is it the same as auditioning for a regular orchestra & signing a contract? I love doing pit ensemble in highschool & would absolutely love to continue doing professional ones when I'm older.

    • @JustAnotherFlutist
      @JustAnotherFlutist  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Wow, great questions! Contracts differ greatly from company to company, plus there is usually a "do not discuss this contract with anyone not involved in this contract" clause in them, so that makes it a bit difficult to talk about. Let me think on it and come up with a way to talk about so you guys know what to look for and how to negotiate. :)

    Hi Joanna. How do you get your tone so loud and clear? I want my flute to sound like that flute but everytime I try to do that, I end up overblowing the notes

    • @ThomasMulliganFlute
      @ThomasMulliganFlute 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Haley Anderson Relaxed, open embouchure, warm air, supported, directed air stream into the flute moreso than across the flute. And practise long tones as semi breves moving chromatically

    Coming from personal experience, the 795 flute is terrible for flute majors! It's a good intermediate step up for late high school and maybe the first year of your undergrad, but the instrument is just NOT going to hold up for a very long time. The resistance of the keys means that there's more force going onto the pads when you do press them down, and this is going to wear out the pads far too quickly. With the amount of practice you need to be doing as a serious music student, the pads on this flute aren't going to last the typical 5 years before you need the first re-padding, you'll be lucky if you get two. It's also much harder to fix small problems on your own with disassembling the entire flute, as the mechanism is built so strangely! The C sharp trill key is on a rod by itself, as opposed to on the same rod as the other 2 trill keys. This means there's more things in the way to get to springs and screws to fix those basic things that go wrong! I really wouldn't recommend this for a music major, you'll be much better off saving up an extra grand or two and getting something that can last a really long time. I love the tone of this flute, the low register is beautiful and the d sharp roller is a god send, but it's just not worth it in my opinion.

    Hi.. Nice Flute, I just bought The 795Vigore..just because of Your Video as it great Price performance instrument. Can You help me with idea, if i play flute like i used to its 1/4 tone too sharp, the c# gets even half tone sharp. I get rid of this sharpness only when I roll in flute head and close more hole with my lip, but then my sound is getting not so dynamic and not to my taste. Should I do some cork readjustment? But it the cork position is the same as it needs in instruction. For me a little helps not to put head till the end in flute, but is it good practice , how much in mm I can compensate my pitch in this way? Feels like if Im had not inserted the head fully the head gets some unwanted movements. Or just readjust cork or simply play rolled in? Please , Please some coments..

    • @marisliepins1526
      @marisliepins1526 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I measured, to get good pitch i have to insert head only 1.1inch or 28milimeters🤔

    Do you know if repair shops can replate keys? On my flute the left hand pointer finger key (not sure of the technical name) the silver has rubbed off and would like to get it replated. And about how much would it be?

    • @JustAnotherFlutist

      Repair people are magical, but there are no standard prices! You'll need to ask for a quote. I do know that they can make something work for you, as one of my flutes has the same issue and one of my repairpersons offered to fix it. 😊
