You need to try Meg’s Cafe at Shobdon Airfield on the Herefordshire Wales border. Nissan hut dining fantastic home made pies and gravy but avoid the weekends as really busy.
Good Friday? At Redhill? Wow!! I was there too! A flight school I'm looking at has their main establishment at Redhill, so I paid the airfield a visit just to poke and prod. Looking at where you're rolling, I strongly suspect I was admiring your plane with my binoculars from the cafe!
I'm learning to fly at Gamston and I agree, the food there is amazing. I've recently subscribed to your channel and it made my day to see you'd visited Gamston. It's nice to see the airfield getting some time on your channel.
I saw you flying this leg over my house in Wokingham. Normally, I’m part of the ‘bumbling traffic’ below you at white Waltham 😂. Thanks for all the great videos ☺️
Yes Jon, a great place for food. Is the delightful Francesca still there? One of the problems with success and therefore bookings is that it can be a bit difficult if you just 'drop in'. Compton Abbas had that problem and had to create a 'priority' system for pilots, so they could get off before the weather closed in. Otherwise food reviews would be good, with a regular guest reviewer of course.
Hi Jon, having just watched this video, I realise we missed each other by a couple of hours. I flew my Robin in from Husbands Bosworth about 1230 Local. Pity, it would have been great to meet you. Only had a coffee but the food looked good!
John, do you use skydemon to navigate on your tablet? also what tablet do you use to navigate? I am about to transition to using tablets and would love if you did a video on the types of navigation apps and the best (or most appropriate) tablets to use.
Great video as always Jon. Question about Farnborough radar, did they ask you to “re-contact” them on a different frequency? I haven’t heard of that before?
The reason they do this is because when Farnborough are not too busy they ‘bandbox’ the frequencies so you’ll have 1 controller operating multiple frequencies (usually LARS West and Zone. Occasionally LARS West, Zone, and Approach). So then when they get busier and ‘split’ the sector, all the aircraft are on the correct frequency for the service they are receiving. Saves 6/7 aircraft trying to switch over from Zone to Approach at the same time when they ‘split the sector’
Nottingham airport (EGBN) has a nice airfield cafe called "chocks away" i will be doing my PPL flight training there soon, i have already had a trail flight with Sherwood flying club which is also on the airfield, i can say the cafes co-pilots breakfasts are delicious Free plug for the airfield, and info for any pilots wanting to visit, they have both 100LL and jet A1 fuel on site, im sure if you plug their ICAO code into sky-demon you will find them, and all details about the airfield My pilot told me traffic has decreased at the airfield over the years, so give them some love if your in the area, and stop off for a coffee or a bite to eat, everyone's friendly No excuses not to visit Mr flying reporter, Nottingham airport is the next GA airfield south of Retford/Gamston, which i have also visited before
That place looks too posh for me. You know happenny have just reopened the tower cafe. Touchdown at wellsborne is always nice. And you welcome to come and visit me personally at cov. As it would be lovely to meet you. All your videos inspire me in my flight training.
Hello from Belgium! Nice videos! ATC a bit different sometimes from typical phraseology… Conspicuity, free call,… I am planning a flight to England next month. Could you suggest one or two nice vfr airfields with a good restaurant , within one hour of the Dover area? Thanks!
I would suggest, Shoreham. Not cheap to land there, but has a nice cafe/restaurant. Another might be Bembridge (although might not be suitable for customs).
There's a rumour that fuel is on its way down in line with crude. At the car pumps ever notice how when prices decrease they take an age to translate/come down at the pumps, yet when prices climb it's with immediate effect/overnight at the pumps regardless of taxation etc? I'm not sure what stock control system they use, LIFO, FIFO? Essential fuel prices have increased because of greed at the top of the food chain (masquerading as 'market forces'). I fear for GA at the moment, it's had a rough few years and it's a worthwhile industry that has multifaceted benefits for a wide church. Our govt and it's - misguided imho - UK energy strategy (ongoing since at least 2008) isn't helping matters either and it makes one wonder just whom they protect and serve.
Hi Lee. Thought I already replied to this, but doesn't look like it sent. I keep it simple to be honest. The settings for the GOPRO 10 out of the box are great - I don't use stabilisation - that makes me want to vomit when I watch it back. I don't use protune, file sizes too big for that. I film for endurance.
You do make this flying lark look so easy Jon! Itching for the day I can get back in the air (health issues) your videos provide great therapy.
Thanks Mikey.

Great video Jon, I’ve been very impressed with the café at Gamston in the past too!
Cafe...or restaurant!?
Went to Gamston for my QXC in March...sadly caf was not open, definitely going back once qualified :) Turweston is spot on also 😁
Be sure to book.
You should fly into Damyns Hall Aerodrome in Essex, they have a lovely little diner there that does great food. It's also home to the Tiger Club!

Thank you Chris.
Wonderful videos Jon. I feel like I've just come along with you for a flight in your lovely airplane. Cheers.
Thank you Tim
You should try the restaurant at Fishburn, the food there is incredible

Booking is essential...if only they could cater for more, but then it might not have the same vibe.
Excellent video as usual 👍😀
Thank you Steve.
Last time at Gamston cafe, thought it was Greek amount of crocs being dropped!
I wonder why you put on headset before starting the motor

1st class RT work
Thanks for sharing !!!
Pleasure.
Never seen such good nosh at an aerodrome restaurant.
Agreed Douglas.
Automated information at 0:56 sounds like HAL

Great video thanks Jon. But isn’t fuel getting expensive!
Oh yes - I hear it might be back on the way down again.

Curious to know Jon, what settings do you find yourself usually using on your GoPros for optimum broadcast quality?

I have noticed nice chemtrials in 3th minute.
We used to call them Contrails …..Condensation trails 😉
Caught me off guard with the camera Jon! 😂 glad you had a good flight and a nice lunch at Gamston, on my list of airfields to visit!
You really must visit, but book a table.
The term "airfield diner" in your title doesn't seem to do the place justice. Looked like a great day of flying (and eating.)
Yeh. Diner...isn't quite what this is. But how refreshing?
