I remember listening to this song upward of a hundred times on cassette, while laying in my sleeping bag on the floor of our barracks. This was in Saudi Arabia, right after Desert Storm had ended. It was one of my favorite songs on the album, John Williams: Greatest Hits of the Guitar. At that point, I'd never heard of The Deer Hunter, a movie that I probably watched for the first time, twenty years later. This beautiful song, along with the Williams rendition of the Beatles Here, There and Everywhere were definitely my favorites. I don't know if I've heard as wonderful a version as you've recorded since. I truly appreciate your passion.
Excelent Stephanie ! 👏👏👏 Cavatina was composed by Stanley Myers for the british film " The Walking Stick " ( 1970 ). Stars : David Hemmings and Samantha Eggar. Director : Eric Till. Then was used again for the USA film " The Deer Hunter ". ( 1978 ). 🌹👋👋🇦🇷
An overly optimistic me bought the sheets for this in the early 70s. Didn't look so bad written down, until I saw a footnote that basically said : "This is roughly what should be played." In other words, this piece needs a lot of YOU to make it work.
On a classical guitar website looking at various things and surprised by a link to this video I'd already seen so many times... but of course I HAD to come back to the beauty and passion and just melt again, and again. This is simply the finest solo version extant, I do not exaggerate. Every single element of this performance kills me. oh my heart.
Beautiful performance and heartfelt dynamics. Yes, composed for "The Deer Hunter." Only movie I ever saw, on campus senior in college, where nobody made a sound for 10 minutes after the film. Entire crowd silent, slowly trickled out without conversations. One of my 5 rated best anti-war films of all time. Cavatina is perfect for the melancholy reflection where words were totally inadequate to express the feeling tone of the movie... Thanks for a very expressive performance of this beautifully poignant song...

@@hermanbregiIt's a very different version (two guitars, support from the orchestra), sweeter. I like Stephenie Jones' performance much better, because of her sense of rhythm and the registers and timbres she uses.
@@canaldepedrovera OK. En realidad es solo una cuestión de gustos. La versión que yo prefiero me resulta más agradable al oído. Me satisface más. La disfruto más. The only acoustic guitar player that puts tears in my eyes when I hear you play. The peak of player expression! Plenty of vocalists can do it. But only one nylon string guitar player!
just breathtaking. your facility on the fretboard is SO fluid and every change rings with such clarity, each note asserts itself, clear and present without losing any of the depth of such FEEEEELING here... my god. in tears.
Thank you Stephanie for this wonderful musical gift so bewitching that remains in our hearts as a marker of our lives for all those who are more than 50 years old; I send you all my tenderness and my esteem!
I had to smile to myself when I read this comment; she makes it look simple, but to play it this effortlessly is a lot of practice and skill. It's a tricky pieces for a lot of guitarists.
I have been following your guitar playing for several years now and would like to pay you a big compliment. I myself studied music education with a major in classical guitar at the University of Music in Saarbrücken. I'm already retired and I'm really happy about young people who love this instrument so much. Birgit Leidinger
Watching this reminds me of when people used to tell me it's crazy someone can remember every note to something like this. There is so much emotion and feel to something like this that those people will never fell or understand. Beautiful
I love your phrasing It makes the individual lines weave together, makes the whole performance a joy to listen to Your use of tone colors is fantastic 👏👏👏👏👏
Beautiful and passionately played!I suppose we all state the obvious.I also like that you wear interesting clothing. You could be the Jimi Hendrix of the Classical lady's.I mean that complementarily. An entire presentation within the performance.
Only the ugliness of being brought low can we understand all the beauty that the prideful eye does not see ( or in though this case hear). We make sense of the world not through the objective and materiel for a man to gain, but for all the gentle and connection that Mother Earth and the joy of life has provided in her timeless bosom. ( big, fat, juicy ones) ( Beavis and Butthead laughter)

Bella interpretazione! Il tuo tocco personale fa come al solito la differenza! ❤
As always a delight to listen and behold. The tone of the guitar and dynamic control are something else.
This piece is at the top of my "can't wait until I don't suck and can play it" list !
This piece is one of those that is way harder to play than it sounds.
Me TOO!!! I will never be as good as Stephanie though. She is brilliant.
