Not really trying to defend Disney since they're a big bad corporate company with a massive monopoly, but atleast TFA, TLJ and those 2 spin offs were far more enjoyable than PM and AOTC. And don't forget that they brought us The Mandalorian, Rebels and soon we will get a new season of TCW.

    Even in 2019 we aren't there yet. Massive productions still prefer scale models over CGI as there's still no way to satisfyingly ray-trace every small detail on a CGI model. Imperfection is difficult to simulate.

    • @Syklonus
      @Syklonus 5 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      That's bullshit! Most streets, cars, vehicles, and cityscapes in film and TV are all CGI these days. It saves the production money on permits and the hassle of filming on a busy street like somewhere in Manhattan. I'm not talking about current and massive movie productions either. Mid 2000s TV shows like Ugly Betty and Smallville used a lot of CGI locations and sets. David Fincher uses them extensively in his movies. Most streets and city views in Zodiac are CGI, as well as every drop of blood (saves cleaning up after multiple takes). We're not only there, but we got there a long time ago. Just becasue a few productions have noticeable and crap CGI doesn't mean it's ALL like that.

    • @brnddi
      @brnddi 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I'm sure *some* productions still use scale models, but it's mostly CGI now. The Marvel movies (Iron Man iirc) built the entire New York cityscape as a computer model based on 3D scanned data so they could have flying scenes through any part of the city they wanted.

      +Poe Ghost Turns out it's the opposite now. TFA has a lot of CGI, entire environments and interiors etc. but it is all invisible due to the advanced nature of the CGI now in this day and age. Ofcourse some of it is still visible, but for that they didn't make any real models and miniatures and shot them, like they did in the prequels, they just made reference models and even all the ship battles are 100% CGI.

    • @mackmitchell94
      @mackmitchell94 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Richard Sutton because star wars is more than just being shot on 35mm and practical sets ? Because it’s more than just an aesthetic? And that’s an outdated aesthetic anyways, one that Star Wars already evolved past with the prequels. The new ones don’t feel right because their fan fiction not made by the original creator. It doesn’t help that they’re also just a retread of the original trilogy to a detriment. There’s other good star wars like the mandalorian, rogue one and of course clone wars. But George Lucas was also involved in someway with those three examples. The sequels had a chance to have Lucas be involved but then they threw out his story in a blatant sign of disrespect, thus sealing the sequels fate as the worst trilogy. Disney has learned their lesson it seems, as Lucas is being more and more involved as a consultant nowadays.

    The problem isn't that they didn't use practical effects and models... it's that by the finished product, you can't tell that they did

      They sucked because they used miniatures that take a lot of time and effort to build? That's lazy? Just like the miniatures built for the originals. Are you fucking stupid?
