Good explanation.....but small piece of advice.....never use Tap water to make O.S especially in case of nitrates because all of nitrates are highly water soluble so it is quite obvious to have some nitrate impurity in tap water.....instead prefer distill water for preparing O.S because they provide more reliable results......

In my college, they use copper turnings instead of paper for detecting the presence of nitrate radical
u need a reducing agent which can be carbon from the paper or copper turnings
Even in my school they use copper turnings
