  • In today's video I talk about whether or not starting an embroidery business is profitable. The embroidery industry has so many different niches and each has their own costs and profit margins. The most important thing to take away from this is to do what you love!!

    I had a guy wanted my to embroider JIM on 6 hats he had I said 8.00 ea. He told me he had somebody to do them for 3.00 and he thought that was to much. I said you better jump on 3.00 I can’t do them for that.

      Out of curiosity, was the other price $3.00 each, or for all of them? Esp. if for all of them, yep, you’re better off not doing them! A lot of inconvenience & time consumption for that much work.

    Well, I did it Angela. I called Todd and I got approved for the EMT16X. So, excited. I have been sewing and doing embroidery, vinyl and rhinestones for years and have found somethings are just not worth the time and energy it takes to make them or the aggravation, especially when I did custom clothing for adults for over 40 yrs. Now, I make things I love and that sale for me while working my full time job. But, this year I will make more changes. Thanks again for another great video.

    I admire your hustle! The upfront cost is expensive. I am on a single needle machine and don’t have multi machines to work on. I think there is pressure to get these big machines and a lot of people on social media aren’t paying for their machines. I think your channel helps you have a leg up on people who don’t have a TH-cam. You can list on Etsy all day but it’s all about the marketing.

    • @AngelaJasmina
      @AngelaJasmina  2 ปีที่แล้ว +66

      Thank you! Yes upfront costs are expensive! Yes the pressure is definitely high but most of us TH-camrs all started on the single needs as well! So it is definitely possible!! Just grow at your own pace! The reality of my channel can't speak for others is that it hurts my etsy more than it helps. As my channels main subscribers are other Etsy shop owners they can all make what I sell so it doesn't help as they click for inspiration and in turn etsy sees it as buyers not liking my products so I go down in search. For other types of businesses yes it definitely would help as it is marketing! My purpose on YT is to help other mamas or entrepreneurs start their business or give the motivation to keep going! Happy new yearssssss

    I know I am underpricing myself, but I'm happy with what I make. I typically sell my hats starting at $15. I am all word of mouth and/or instagram/facebook. I don't buy cheap hats. Most of what I do is Richardson, so I am looking at about $5.75 at this time. I usually assume $.20 in thread. I am at home working without employees. I run 2 machines. I estimate about 8 hats per hour between the 2 machines, so I come out to around $72/hr. which is plenty for me. I'm not consistent, so I don't have that luxury. When it comes to wholesale items (other than small cost items), I charge 1.5 of what I pay, plus embroidery. So, if I pay $30 wholesale for a jacket, I will sell it for $45 then add $7 for a left chest design. I don't get carried away with stitch count either.
    Feel free to follow my business page. Just look up Happy Hermit Embroidery.

    Angela, Another Great video! I have been preparing to launch my business for the last year and one of the things I have been doing is “testing” items to sell. For each item I make a cost sheet (I did accounting for small businesses for years but felt that side of me fought with my artistic side). My cost sheets end up showing me whether or not it makes sense. However, there are a few items I do which will not be as profitable but I love doing them (need to feed the soul) so I may include them. There have been some items I have tested and said “never again” but it was still good to test. Not everything will be a winner but you have shown us that with hard work, tenacity and constant re-evaluation of your business you can make it. Thank you so much!

    Hi Angela. May I ask you all pleaaase. I am thinking I wanna do something like you do. But for me to spend once only for the machine, do you guys think I can get a multineedle immediately? Or I really need to start from a beginner's machine first? Thank you.... ❤️ 😊

    I’ve moved to zig zag stitch and bean stitch applique designs because they are quicker to stitch out! I am too impatient now for satin stitch

    AJ I used to do felties, I didn’t know the market is hot for it. I am realizing it now as the cost is minimal and you don’t need personalization. You can embroider ahead and have inventory on hand when people order you can ship same day or next day unlike personalized shirt. Umm 🤔 I might be listing my feltie again. Going to look into that market again. I’m planning a video presentation soon on what kind of niches are within the embroidery market? We only think of T-shirt only because that’s what we see mostly but omg I’m realizing now there’s so many other niches that only have quick stitch out and sold way better. Quicker the stitch out the more profitable because you can sell make more and sell more than a T-shirt that takes 1 hour to do minus all the appliqué prep and cut. 🤯

      What exactly is a “Feltie”? Obviously, I assume it’s made of felt, but what is the item?

    Hi,
    I'm planning on buying an embroidery machine- baby lock flare, it's cheap compared with the Capella machine. However, I'd like your input as to what would you recommend. Do you know which one would be better to buy? I want to start my embroidery business, but I am not sure what to sell yet.
    Thank you.

    sort of off topic I'm 63 and looking to slow down and work from home always had an interest in embroidery. I notice in your vids that you do different things and thought you may have an opinion you're the ben their done that. Question If a person me wanted to start a home business would you start with printing shirts etc. or embroidering. Both would be ideal but interested in your opinion. Thank You

    I’m new to embroidery, I was wondering if you would recommend embroidering on cloth face mask and if so is there a special way because I have heard that in some cases it can compromise the protection of the mask?

    • @JaimeDornanLady
      @JaimeDornanLady 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      As an RN, I think doing embroidery on the masks could compromise the protection of them, as embroidering makes numerous extra holes in the fabric for viruses & bacteria to go through! I’m considering making some with transfers on them. That allows some creativity, without making the extra holes. Ideally, the fewer holes in them & the fewer gaps around the edges, the better.
