      Eileen Aldis i am hungarian, Market Hall is actually expensive, it is mostly for tourist to eat and buy souvenirs what you ate after the gulyás soup i never saw this dumplings with cheese, it is absolutely not traditional hungarian food, it came from north, border of Slovakia, your pronunciation is terrible, but nice to try :) you should go to Bors Gasztrobár this is the best place in Budapest if you want to east.delicious soups and baguetts, just check their facebook page and if you want to eat Hungarian food visit Hunyaditéri Piac csarnok so cheap for locals and you can taste the best foods

    Budapest citizen here. You're really cute trying to say Hungarian words and sometimes you guess right, so no problems with there. Trust me, our language is really hard to pronounce correctly :D Hungarians usually eat hamburger well done, and not rare, as they served it for you. In addition to the video, the places you've shown are the typical "tourist traps". A lángos usually costs between HUF 300 and 500. A kürtős kalács costs around the same, if you walk more into the "not so touristy" parts of the city.

      @zolikoff 6 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      What do you mean by chemical laden mixes?
      All you need for langos is dough, sour cream and cheese. Very cheap ingredients. The worst that can happen is that the cheese is a cheap variety. Nothing to worry about.

      Yes, that kind of rip off happens time to time in Hungary. The int. airport at Budapest sells 0.5L bottled water (each) for 4 USD. Now then, 12 of these bottles 12x 0.5L sells in the UK for 2 USD(1.69GBP).
      Taxi rides also expensive, and there is a minimum fare rate, that is fixed by the government. There were some cheap taxi business, but they were put out of the business, cos they were too cheap.

    In Zing, the meat is done medium-rare, so you can feel the real taste of beef. If it would have well-done, the beef would loose most of its taste. It is not a Hungarian speciality, its worldwide.

    • @bbqtom
      @bbqtom 6 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      I couldn't agree even more. As a chef, or even cook, you have a responsibility of showcasing food in its right form. I get discouraged when someone orders food cooked beyond what its meant to be. Growing up I have made lots of seasoned ground pork and beef that was not cooked. I never got sick, and I knew when the seasoning was on point. Contrary to belief.

    Hi there! I love Budapest and its culinary culture. When I visited Gerbeaud, I once passed it up for its pricing, but returned on a later trip, eager to have a luxurious coffee and dessert. They offered a plate of mini-squares of three or four cakes, all of which were so well-crafted that I didn`t actually want to eat them. I appreciate fine pastry work. Now, I can`t tell you about the Gerbeaud coffee, but if those cakes were any indication, I`d say it would be worth it. Also, you could find equally professionally baked cakes at Ruszwurm Cafe in the Castle District, and one of the Szamos Cukraszda shops around town. There are others, of course, but those come to mind. And if you`d like to try to make some of these fine recipes, buy Kaffeehaus, the Exquisite Desserts of Vienna, Budapest and Prague, written by pastry master Rick Rodgers. He will even answer your questions about his recipes if you write to him, as I have.

      Regardless of how good the burgers might be in Budapest, I would never consider them Hungarian food. There is a pastry shop at the grand market that sells excellent poppy seed pastries. As for goulash, some are better than others. Definitely avoid the tourist trap places, as their food will be bland and boring.

      Zing is a safe bet if you are hungry and happen to stumble upon one. I believe the meat is clearly stated to be made medium unless specifically asked otherwise. Medium is a good compromise, rare requires high quality meat, well-done kills all the beefy flavours. IMO.

    OH maaaan!!! It feels unreal! For 2 years and a half, I've been dreaming about my Central Europe trip, and only got to do it last month. And now, I'm still watching vlogs and reading blogs about Budapest-Vienna-Prague, and I finally get to relate to so many things and say "Omg!! I was there" , I did try the vegetarian goulash at the exact food truck you have on the footage, and it was not as good as I expected it to be. But everything else in Budapest in breath-taking, sooo yummy and so worthvisiting! I can't wait to go back there for a longer period of time :D

    A Hungarian friend of mine took me to Budapest in 2017. What a great experience, especially considering I’m from a small town in Florida. What an astonishingly beautiful city!!! Spoiler alert: I must say up front that if you have a wheat allergy, it’s very hard to find sans gluten in Hungary, or most cities in the Eastern countries. That said, considering my friend spoke Hungarian, I found lots of delicious things to eat., although I drooled at his pastries, dishes with pasta, and so many street foods. My favorite place was the outdoor farmers market where we bought fresh bags full of paparikas (hot and sweet). Get both! You can’t buy it in USA that fresh!! My friend took time to teach me the transit system so, one day, he had family business to do, I had a blast exploring Pest on my own going to places he wasn’t interested in; hint, hint, really great shopping!!!! Didn’t buy much but had a great time looking and taking lots of pictures. We planned yo go back March 2020 but everything went crazy a week before departure. We almost went anyway believing the pandemic wouldn’t effect us. Glad we didn’t!! Looking forward to visiting again in the safe future. An add on: Austria, Czech (Praque!!!) and Croatia are also beautiful countries to visit.

    My birth father is directly from Hungary 🇭🇺, and since you mentioned a lot of burger places along your way, this explains my brother and I's obssession with burgers.
    I am also highly awed at the structures and buildings of this place.
    My Brother and I's birth father lives in a small town called Pomaz which is a hour away from Budapest he tells me, but the rest of my birth father's family lives in Budapest.
    My foster mom told me that my birth father would always bring me Hungarian Pancackes with chocolate sauce and powdered sugar and I could never get enough as a toddler. So I plan to make them soon to see if I still like them. I do believe they said I didn't like Apricot jelly so they changed it for a different flavor.
    Anyway, cant wait to see what else this country holds.
