Yeah, they should cover up an incident where a race car landed in the grandstands... So, some people believe that news media should only report on news that supports their beliefs. No, it's better to take in all the facts, good or bad, and THEN make up your mind about something. Now, knowing what you do about those grandstands at the track, are you gonna put your grandbabies there for the next race? That's what news helps you decide.
Agreed, but at the same time that fence looks far sketchier than any of the tracks I've ever been to. And with a gap there it allows a car to hit that portion of the fence head on like it did. I'm just thankful the tracks I go to have better fencing than that. There's always a risk for fans, but sometimes that risk is elevated by quality and design.
@All. Crash fences should hav1/2 steel cable 2 feet apart top to top of wall, anchored to tubing end posts Super strong. Buy ticket read. Assume Risk.@gagemeyer363
This is why we need catchfencing ALL AROUND THE TRACK Thank god this didnt turn fatal. As a motorsport fan im happy to hear that their adding more fencing, less chance of a fatality or the track shutting down.
Prayers for everyone involved. Things happen in every sport but it really hits home in motorsports where everyone is close, locals enjoying the weekend festivities and supporting their communities local tracks and neighbors
New Englander local 1/4 mile oval Highbank track had what was called the widow maker corners as there was a sharp 15-20-foot drop on other side. Cars often went over, air born or rolled, had some jump the wall twice in turn 4 grandstands, then the wall was kind of tilted back creating a ramp effect now the wall is facing down a bit to force physics to keep the car seated to the surface. These were 50 60 70 era cars. Had a few deaths, careers ended due to injury. Now they have new lighting, surround wall and catch fence. A new tower and got rid of the rickety wood and steal stands for concrete. I completely respect the need for driver, and spectator safety and the idea the track was around 50 + decades speak volumes when other tracks closed. This track is my home, can't go as often as I used to, but knowing it is thriving in this market tells me the owners have a good idea about how to run a business. Miss the excitement of a car going over the banking, or scarping the wall and rolling, flipping or just spinning taking others out which is the point, but it is what it is. Try to catch the 2025 season opener.
I frequented a track in Danbury CT. In the late ' 70 ' s until it closed in ' 82 and seen some terrible accidents one of which a car went airborne and killed the starter Ted Abbott .
I've seen flag men come close to eating it a few times. Usually involving a sprint car. One tore down the flag stand and tore out a section of fence at one track I was at. I'd never seen anyone go down a ladder backwards, let alone running. He literally just made it.
A proper catch fence should be reinforced with steel cables and stronger poles than something you would just put up in your yard. Otherwise stuff like this will happen.
Sitting on the outside of corners with insufficient safety measures are fatalities waiting to happen. This dirt track is a complete and total joke. Sitting on the outside of corners with insufficient safety measures are fatalities waiting to happen. This dirt track is a complete and total joke. This could also occur on the front straight. They should be closed down until they provide sufficient crash fencing.
maybe upgrade the fencing to NASCAR Catchfencing so protect the fans more (but destroy the cars and just basically remove all screws and leave it driving)
Most of the time, business only improves safety after a tragedy or when legally mandated. Why is that? It's because those business owners love their money more than they care about others. Yes, they want more safety, but not if they have to pay for it. If they can get away with no updates, they will, regardless of the danger.
Damn! Glad nobody died in that. Get fences though. It doesn’t matter if there most likely won’t be a crash there! It’s still possible. If you want a safe and good racetrack, put fences everywhere. The cars aren’t supposed to do that! I’d sue if I was one of the people there.

Could easily happen here in Aus at half the tracks I go too. Nz has way more strict fence rules than here and one went into the crowd last season so your statement is crap
Just another half assed US speedway. Virtually none would pass muster here in Oz. Walls need to be continuous, not gaps for gates. Catch fencing needs to be decent all way around the fence. This driver was turned and hit the opening for the gate. A opening that should not be there. WOO race at tracks that they should never even consider. All the b/s about safety is that BS.

Wow first race of the season in October.
Alot of dirt tracks in the south run through winter because summer is to hot.
the former track promoter didnt renew the lease for this year so this track had been closed until a few weeks ago
@@VsHangoutThat would make sense except obviously it's not true. In the south most tracks are closed during the winter. You must live in Australia.
