    Thanks for posting this. This mall was a big part of my life. I more or less was there the day it opened and the last day it was open. I still live very close and go past it daily on my way to work or when I am out walking my miles. The mall sat for a very long time more or less un-touched. That was until Casey exposed it and well, you can see what shape it is in now. Thanks for being the type of person you are and not vandalizing it, like people in so many other videos out there. I totally wish that I could have been there with you, to reminisce about all the good times and bad times I had there.

    Behind the cinderblock wall is Menards. Sears (and a part of the mall) was demolished after the mall was closed in order to build Menards, hence the cinderblock wall.

    YOU WERE IN WISCONSIN? I'm 45 minutes from that mall. Too cool!!!! Wasn't surprised to see water in there. We've had a lot of flooding the last few weeks. One reason it closed is that it got to be very unsafe to shop and work at. There was a lot of violence inside and outside of the mall.

    I lived in Waukesha, WI most of my life and never visited this mall. My parents would occasionally take me to Southridge (which is nearly identical) because it was closer. But also, Northridge got a reputation for violence after that murder in the parking lot so no one wanted to go there because of the perceived possibility of violence. It was only "replaced" by other malls because they were "safer."
    The video is a bit spooky since it looks nearly identical to Southridge (same skylights, clock tower/elevator, etc....). So even though I haven't been there, I feel like I've been there.

    The concrete wall is where Sears use to be located. They demolished it in 05 to revitalize Northridge by adding a PickNSave Supermarket and Menards home improvement center. But in 2014 the store closed and Menards remains as the only functioning business on the Northridge site. If you go back to the food court I can tell you where the Cinnabon and McDonalds was located.

      George William Tussler A murder was committed in 1992 by a man named Jesse Anderson. He saw a movie at the Northridge Mall with his wife and when they left the theater they had dinner at a TGI Friday’s near by but while they were in the parking lot he stabbed multiple killing her instantly. He then told police that they were attached by African American gang members. The truth was revealed and he was convicted but the damage was already done. People were spooked into thinking that the area was becoming unsafe because of gang activity and they took their business to other local malls out of fear of crime

    • @michaelsharp5543
      @michaelsharp5543 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The closing of the mall had nothing to do with the Anderson murder. It remained open for more than a decade after the murder.
      The mall closed due to a raise in the crime rate in the area, and easier access mall options that were located right off the highway, such as Southridge, Mayfair Mall, and Brookfield Square Mall.

So sad to see all the malls dissappearing because of online retailers who are taking away jobs & places where the kids could go hang out with their friends, shop, watch a movie, eat or whatever. I guess I'm old school & prefer to look, touch, feel & try on items before I buy that way I can see the quality first. Superb explore as usual Rob, thanks! =^;^=

You can see their old store at 5:33. • @crearley
    @crearley 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Hi Robb , Great share ! Hate to see places like that go under, but it just keeps repeating over and over. Some of those malls would make great Veteran sanctuaries if the government would step in before they get destroyed. Here's some info on the death of that mall........................ Built by Herb Kohl and his partners, it opened in 1973, a virtual carbon copy of Southridge. And after a slow decline, it finally shut its doors 30 years later in 2003.
    Even though a variety of factors contributed to Northridge's demise, the one many people remember was a murder with a racially motivated alibi: Jesse Anderson, who was white, brutally killed his wife in 1992 but claimed two black men attacked them while they dined at T.G.I. Friday's, next to the mall. It was the final nail in the coffin for many white suburban shoppers who decided that it was safer to travel the extra distance to Bayshore, Mayfair Mall or Brookfield Square.

    • @calebdouglas7622
      @calebdouglas7622 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I use to live not to far from Northridge and I can remember when our home was being built my mom took me here from time to time to get a Cinnabon. I was bummed to walk through there one last time and see the whole food court sealed off by drywall. But I would heavily consider Mayfair my childhood mall since we did more shopping there.

    Always a shame to see malls close. Online shopping has become so huge that many retail businesses have gone belly-up.
    The Piercing Pagoda is in our malls here in Maryland. It is usually a stall, rather than a storefront retailer.

    This mall has a sister across town still operating. Saw Santa here as a baby.

    I wonder what was in that red/yellow/brown painted place. I was a mall rat back in the early 1980s.

    What a shame it's left like that should be turned into offices or a collage. I like your style of documenting these places.

    Great explore my friend ☺️ love watching your perspective and listening to your thoughts about these abandoned buildings.
    It's a shame they couldn't turn these buildings into housing, such as condominiums or low income families. Revitalized and restored could provide a great resource for the community.

    This mall was from the early 70s which surprised me because it still looks really cool and fresh. We have the Trafford Park centre in my city that is god damned huge. It takes most of the day just to get around. Hope it is still around in 20 yrs time but I doubt it as global GDP has been in decline now for over 10yrs.

    Nice Video! Too bad the Vandals had to wreck it. Did you look for a Directory? That would give you the names of the stores that were there at one time. That place would make a nice Movie Set for some Horror movies like," Dawn Of The Dead." LOL

    Such a shame what people do and this is why no one can reveal history or locations
