Then in the late 1980s all of these malls subdivided their 2 theaters into 4 smaller ones, so that what you were left with was these little matchbox theaters with tiny screens. I think if I was born a few years earlier then going to the mall after school would still have been a popular thing. Most of my after school stuff as a teen was either going to parks or restaurants/snack places near our schools

This is so sad. My sister and I were just talking about the Northridge Mall and how much fun we had here. Wedding rings bought, wedding invitations ordered, years later coming back to the mall with our babies in strollers. So many good memories here. Thanks for this video.

I think that's a huge reason why abandoned buildings and urbex stuff is so interesting, thinking of people and stories these places once held, now gone forever and unknowable. They're like miniature Marie Celeste mysteries

@@emilybennett6427 you would understand if you were from that area. It was actually called that at the time. It literally destroyed that entire part of town. "The North Side" is still considered a really bad part of Milwaukee. The crime is out of hand there.
Actually north ridge was built first and there twin is South ridge it was closed cause a man shot his wife and blamed a black man in the parking lot. Please research and p.s it's really not that bad here we can actually be beautiful together at times lol

This was my childhood mall, btw. They re-did everything in the 90s or something. All the teal and peach wasn't original. Back in the 70s and early 80s it was CHOCOLATE BROWN. EVERYWHERE. With gold highlights.

In the 70’s I shopped there with my family. In the 80’s we used to skip school and hang out there. 10 yrs. later I managed a store there. I moved out of state and didn’t realize that this disaster happened. This is so sad.

I grew up in the '80s and malls were magical places to me as a kid. They were like self-contained worlds. Lots of happy family memories, because it was a big deal when we got to go to one. It's really sad to see them in disrepair. I love the design of this one, so much natural light.
I was born in the ‘80s and going to the mall was something that happened only a couple of times a year when I was a kid. Same with going to the Yankee Candle flagship store (MA). They’re still nice to visit when we get a chance.
The sister mall in Milwaukee, Southridge, has much of the same architecture designs with the natural lighting. As well as Mayfair. But they've been updated a bit to be more modern, at least the natural lighting wasn't changed.
Honestly I hate how these good looking buildings are being abandon. They should be built up again, if not a mall then something else. A waste of good condition buildings!
The area has become dangerous and there is retail theft in many of the stores in the area of the far northwest side of Milwaukee, WI. Very sad. I lived close to Northridge Mall, but had to move because of the crime.

I grew up going to this mall. I remember sitting on Santa's lap as a toddler and I also remember buying my prom dress here. Came across this video by accident. So nostalgic yet sad.
Pretty sad to imagine all the fuss that went on in there during Christmas season, and now it's all empty and dirty. Imagine all the people getting last-minute presents or just having a good time there shopping for decorations. A kid seeing a toy on TV and going to that mall to get the toy for real. All the first dates that happened there and later ended up in marriage. And it's all gone...

I kind of miss malls. They were so much fun back in the late 90's/early 00's, before online retail started killing them off. It would be cool if more of them got remodeled for new purposes; I once read where someone suggested making them into housing complexes.
I squatted in a failing, near abandoned mall for shelter for a while (couldn’t afford to rent). I stayed in the abandoned “Gilly Hicks” store (picked and changed the locks). After closing, I showered off in the fountain after I was able to figure out how to turn it back on. Unfortunately the county sheriff found out what I was doing and ran me (along with three other squatters) out of there...the place was demolished a month later.
Those malls are the perfect footprint for a community college. Stores turn into classrooms, you have wide aisles and a food court, a few sets of bathrooms scattered about, and one of the bigger stores could be turned into a gym rather easily or a library. All the basic infrastructure is already there, just to remodel it.
@@qwipperty Funny you should mention that, because the community college I went to had its satellite campus at the local mall! They took over a former theater when it moved to a separate building nearby. They turned the concession area into the front desk, a couple of auditoriums into lecture halls; even took advantage of the high ceilings to build a second floor. I didn't even realize it used to be a theater until someone mentioned it in passing.
This is incredible, thanks! My parents used to bring us to this mall in the late 70's, not to shop but just to "hang out" for the afternoon. I recall them going to a Mexican restaurant called "Chi-Chi's" and they would also stop at this pub like place for beers. That movie theater is probably where I saw Star Wars at age 3 or 4 for the first time. Amazing!!
WOW - I went to that mall lots of times. It’s so weird seeing it abandoned. I remember going to that Walgreens - I would usually buy a bag of Snickers. The store that had the “ordinary-looking” escalator was JC Penney.
As part of the team that developed/built Northridge and Southridge, it is kinda heartbreaking to see what has happened to our handiwork. We put our hearts and souls into these projects and built life long friendships with each other in the process.

My dads big payday of his career was doing the heating and ventilation in this mall with his union. Yup big money . My dad purchased two brand new cars a week after he got his payout doing contracting to this mall . Amazing memories of my dad sharing them with me

I agree but maybe what makes me so sad is that I’m the type of person who sees (probably too much) potential in such things and much is going to waste. Even if it were demolished, I believe there is so much that could be reused and recycled, so much so, that very little should be considered trash (if that makes sense). I would LOVE to be able to go thru places like these for strictly reclamation.

Late 80's and early 90's were a great time to hang out at the malls and socialize, get food, window shop, grab new sweaters for winter time, etc., I sure miss that culture and the whole vibe of people being together. Now we are all isolated and buy everything online and nobody talks much anymore.
The first time I heard about this mall was because of you guys: the building WAS in great shape and certainly looked as though it'd be ready to undergo repairs for future reopening. You guys did an excellent job filming and showing your respect for the mall as you guys knew some things were going down with it. Unfortunately (since this video is at least 3 years old, maybe 4), the current shape it's in is miserable: there's by FAR at least 60x the graffiti as there is in this video and the vandalism makes you sick to the stomach (pretty much all the glass (store fronts, skylights, and windows) are all shattered, the restrooms had been destroyed, reports of murder there now (recent videos of explorers showed blood on the floor in the courtyard and police tape in the one backroom that once contained overstock), AT LEAST 6 fires have been started there since 2021 (latest one was in the former foodcourt back in August of 2022), the ceilings are beginning to cave in and due to black mold and sewage, the air is too toxic to breathe without any mask. The owners refuse to do anything with the place and have since racked up thousands in fines (you can watch short clips from Milwaukee News or vids on here under the topic). From what's known as of now, the city is planning on taking it back if the owners don't take action and the city will tear it down themselves because of it's pitiful condition. No one is allowed in the building and if caught, they'd be arrested instantly without questions. If you guys see videos of the mall today, they'll likely make you cry. You guys showed pure respect when you visited at the time the building was getting sealed off for protection and left with images and video but left only footsteps. Aside of the devastating news, I love your vids and enjoy how educational they are and the amount of respect you guys show for the places you visit.
The Chinese investment group was the owner of most of the mall properties for a total of 16 years and did absolutely nothing to save or preserve it. The entire area became very dangerous as a result. The city was finally able to take ownership at the start of 2024 and has plans to properly demolish it.
Yeah their going to regret that one day. A family member of mine died from cancer caused from asbestos. I doubt their is asbestos in this mall but I'm sure they have ran into some in the past. It was a god awful way to die. The cancer caused by asbestos is very aggressive.

@@tony--james Totally. The middle ground is dust masks. They will minimize exposure, but not make you miserable. There are many grades right up to respirator dust masks. (also that was probably not mold, but rather mildew, which is generally only dangerous if you have asthma.) At the end of the day they are going to be wearing whatever they are exposed to home. Urbexing is just really dangerous. Nobody should be doing it if they have ANY sort of autoimmune disorder. In their situation I can respect them taking one for the team. I would. But... ADHA is just like that. 🙄
I love the commercial at the beginning of the video. I love how it has kind of an echo to it. It definitely gives off a nice 80s vibe. I was born in 1996 but man oh man I wish I’d have had the opportunity to see that mall inside and out when it was still in business.

It’d be so cool if they revived this mall somehow. I actually love the design - and I think a lot of people would like to see a retro-style mall nowadays (at least where I’m from). Looks like a cool place too, sad there wasn’t more good usage of it
I lived Northridge I grew up here. Many cool memories of the 80's and 90s here. I'd love to see her one last time. So much spent allowance I had to do plenty of chores for.
Around Christmas of 1987 I remember driving out there from Thousand Oaks to buy my parents a CD player. I found one at Sears and had it wrapped. Seems like yesterday.
My mom and i watched jfk in that theatre. We went to northridge frequently when i was a kid in the 80's and part of the 90's. These malls were the best during the holidays...especially Christmas. The one downtown Milwaukee was the best for christmas in the 80's. Now its just random stores. If there is some there anymore.
I worked in Northridge for some time. First time there after it was completed was amazing. It really was a beautiful mall. It’s sad to see what’s happened to the mall and the surrounding area. Watching this video brought back some great memories.
Kinda sad to think about all the good memories people must’ve had at this place. Families spending time there and people working there. Now it’s just all gone. That’s just life I guess.
The escalators at Forest Fair Village in Cincinnati have been off for years and haven't been blocked off since they are one of the only ways to get to the second floor (not like it matters since there's nothing up there lol)

It’s interesting seeing the shape of Northridge now. I grew up in Milwaukee, remember shopping there with my family, remember seeing Look Who’s Talking Too in that theatre... waiting in line for a ticket while my grandmother told us how much she hated Roseanne. What a lot of people maybe don’t know or don’t talk about is all of the socioeconomic factors that went into the failure of Milwaukee’s north side, not just the mall. High end condos and apartment complexes were built next to hi-rise subsidized housing along 76th street combined with white flight, and the scandal when in 1992 Jesse Anderson, a white man, stabbed his wife at the Northridge TGI Friday’s and then said a black man did it... the already hyper segregated city became wary of the mall, and property values around it dropped nearly overnight. Today, the North side is a shell of what it was, with still-low property values and high crime. The Chinese investment group that owns the mall has promised to redevelop it as an Asian goods market. In a dozen years they’ve done nothing, and earlier this year a maintenance worker was electrocuted and killed. It’s amazing how Northridge is like a microcosm of Milwaukee, of what can happen when shifting politics, racial tensions, and a collapsing neighborhood combine. Thank you guys for shining the light on this poor ruin, and for making the trek to Milwaukee. You guys rock, and I’m so thankful you do what you do. Keep being the thoughtful, reflective, informed and respectful explorers you are!
I grew up in Milwaukee as well, and was really interested when this popped up. I remember going Christmas shopping there as a teenager. I agree with what you said, there were many reasons for this mall going belly up. I worked for penzeys spices in their call centre before I moved away, and I know that the owner tried to buy this place to expand production and warehouse space. He paid the back taxes and was going to have the town of Brown Deer transfer ownership to him, but the Chinese company refused to give it up, and they ended up fighting it in court and paying him back the back taxes he paid, so he had to walk away. They had a chance to revitalize the building and bring jobs to the area, and they lost it because the do nothing chinese owners refused.
Recall Southridge back in the day. Guess it is on its way down as well, but I think it is still open. Milwaukee is not what I remember. Very sad, to me.
Wow. Your comment on the video was very interesting. It gave a little more insight into where this mall was and why it’s closed now. Malls all over the country have gone downhill, lost popularity and so many of the stores have closed. Maybe maintaining such a large place was more than they had imagined. The amount people pay to rent the spaces in the mall is crazy. Especially considering that business is way down in most malls everywhere. The mall where I grew up opened it’s doors in the fall of 1982 I think. People were so excited about it. No more shopping in the weather. Everything under one roof. As with everywhere else that mall is fading. Anchor stores like Sears, Montgomery Ward, and just in the past few months, Macy’s have closed. A large shopping center was built starting with a Walmart nearby, away from downtown where the mall is, and now there’s Kohl’s, Target, Marshall’s, dozens of restaurants from McDonald’s to Red Lobster along with convenience stores, gas stations and more. I feel like that someday soon malls will be a thing of the past. Honestly I’m not that sad about it.

this was a heckuva blast from the past! i frequent northridge's sister mall, Southridge, and have since i was a child. southridge has been updated aesthetically, but the vast majority of the architecture is the same. what they removed was the charm. seeing northridge like this is taking me back to when southridge was pretty. thank you so much for visiting and documenting this building!
He wasnt a security guard.. Victor Diaz was hired to clean up, restore and secure the mall. He died electrocuted, because he went to close the door of the light control or whatnot box and got dumped with 4800 wolts or something.. :/
My parents visited this mall whilst on holiday from the uk, I have picture and video of them, my dad passed away in September........so strange to think he walked these floors with my mom, I suppose we all become ghosts in the end, ghosts of the past, moments lost in time, residual energy, floating about........quite sad 😢

A liminal psychological state is one of ambiguity and disorientation after something begins but before it's completed. Liminal spaces are places where people pass through but don't stay. In total, disorienting thresholds. A street, or a door frame is a liminal space. An abandoned building is definitely a liminal space. A hallway or train station or hotel room is a liminal space. Crossroads, bridges, mountain passes, those are liminal spaces. A school during summer break, or a nightclub during operation. Liminal spaces can come with or without people, but many places are more liminal when you're alone. I'd suggest, that being alone, itself, is a liminal state. According to wikipedia, "Major transformations occur at crossroads and other liminal places, at least partly because liminality-being so unstable-can pave the way for access to esoteric knowledge or understanding of both sides. Liminality is sacred, alluring, and dangerous."
I spent many a happy hours in this mall. I'm saddened to see its demise. 😢 Watching this video brought back such great memories. Northridge mall will always be a part of my youth.
My girlfriend and her friends would drag me to the mall as a teen. It was a great place to hang out and meet friends, get food, watch a movie, play games, look at the fountain and the neon, and just spend hours wandering stores. Now that mall is still open, but it's pretty dead.

Every property is owned by someone.If not owned by a bussines person , it will be owned by the city . But some buildings just fall into such a horrible state , because there is no money to rebuild,renovate or even demolish the place.
@SirWoofles abandoned means it's no longer used .Even though it's abandoned (no longer in use) , when a place is still owned by someone and you take anything away from there ,you are still stealing. Lets use another example: somebody owns a house but doesn't use it, so it becomes abandoned, but it's still paid for so owned, and you go inside and take stuff away from that house. You are stealing .

I think it's because it reminds us of a better time when people were not quite as ruthless as they are now. Somehow it became cool to be lawless and violent. Think of that when you hear the phrase, "Thug Life".
There was so many malls that many were due to fail which is what happened however growing up in the 80s & 90s or even earlier you probably grew up with them & to see the place to be filled with people slowly have less & less people to the point they become abandoned it hurts. It hurts me & seeing what's happening to Regency Mall in Racine WI, Then what happened to the Original Outlet Mall of Kenosha WI it hurts no doubt.
@S K because of the scum that live in the area kept robbing the place. Then as an added bonus they started threatening people who went there to the point that people stopped going to Northridge. Soon after businesses started pulling out, the rest is history.
As a kid and in summertime, my friends and I were dropped off at the local mall at 8am in the morning and got picked up around 6pm -- we would spend the whole day at the mall: going to the movies, the arcade, roving around, eating at the food court. Sad to see a mall abandoned this way.
I am 51 and growing up malls were a huge things in the 80's with my buds and my mom taking me there to shop with her as a kid. I really get clingy to these old malls... it breaks my heart to see demise of these places. What a lost opportunity these empty malls are I believe. Fk online shopping.... but now with covid.. .the horror ...the horror.. making it worse. :'( Thanks for this video TPP! nikko kolassa it actually puzzles me why they keep building malls, my cousin lives in newham in London and ever since they built that Westfield, it’s been hell for him. Thanks to the mall, Newham is the poorest area in the country and the mall that may look all nice has put the council in massive debt lol, it was built to do the exact opposite I don’t kno what they were thinking or what they did wrong
this is so crazy to see. ive lived in wisconsin my whole life, been to southridge so many times but was too young to ever see northridge. i love that the memory of this place, even with deteriorating conditions, is preserved in this video. love the outdated theme of the mall too haha. it's super cool to see it in comparison to the more modernized style of southridge now. i wish i'd seen this video sooner though, i remember hearing something about northridge on the news not too long ago. edit; was searching and found that the dude at the end passed not long after this was filmed. may he rest in peace 💕

This was eerie, yet strangely peacfull and calming. I've got to be honest the architecture had a nice charm to it. I don't thing much would need changing structurally for it to be reopened. Great video!
Thanks for the trip down memory lane. We used to go there in the 80's and early 90's. It was a magical place. Quarter arcades, Babbages, KB toystore. Great times as a teen too. Sorry it is in such a condition now. Sad.
When I was a kid and in Campfire, we had a lock-in at a local mall. Although the stores were closed of the Snack Shack and Food Court remained open. We had full run of the place! It was a blast!
I was about 8 years old when the Northridge Mall was built and hung out there every weekend playing pong in the Sears store. The kids would line up to get their shot at one of the first amazing video games that we could play. In a sporting goods department right next to the catalog center in layaway pickup. And then when done at Sears would go upstairs in the mall to Farrell's ice cream parlor..
If you guys are looking for a VERY newly abandoned mall to explore there is a mall right near where I live called the Phillipsburg Mall in New Jersey. It was just closed down in March of this year (so last month) and from what I’ve heard the public still has full access to the building!! I was planning on exploring it myself with a few friends and I hoped you guys would go there one day too. I would love to see a video about it sometime in the future. Keep adventuring!

I used to go to this mall as a kid in the 90's. I had family who worked here. It was a great place back then. I recognize alot of the old empty store areas.

This is so sad. My sister and I were just talking about the Northridge Mall and how much fun we had here. Wedding rings bought, wedding invitations ordered, years later coming back to the mall with our babies in strollers. So many good memories here. Thanks for this video.

Actually north ridge was built first and there twin is South ridge it was closed cause a man shot his wife and blamed a black man in the parking lot. Please research and p.s it's really not that bad here we can actually be beautiful together at times lol

I grew up in the '80s and malls were magical places to me as a kid. They were like self-contained worlds. Lots of happy family memories, because it was a big deal when we got to go to one. It's really sad to see them in disrepair. I love the design of this one, so much natural light.

The sister mall in Milwaukee, Southridge, has much of the same architecture designs with the natural lighting. As well as Mayfair. But they've been updated a bit to be more modern, at least the natural lighting wasn't changed.

The area has become dangerous and there is retail theft in many of the stores in the area of the far northwest side of Milwaukee, WI. Very sad. I lived close to Northridge Mall, but had to move because of the crime.

I grew up going to this mall. I remember sitting on Santa's lap as a toddler and I also remember buying my prom dress here. Came across this video by accident. So nostalgic yet sad.
Pretty sad to imagine all the fuss that went on in there during Christmas season, and now it's all empty and dirty. Imagine all the people getting last-minute presents or just having a good time there shopping for decorations. A kid seeing a toy on TV and going to that mall to get the toy for real. All the first dates that happened there and later ended up in marriage. And it's all gone...

I squatted in a failing, near abandoned mall for shelter for a while (couldn’t afford to rent). I stayed in the abandoned “Gilly Hicks” store (picked and changed the locks). After closing, I showered off in the fountain after I was able to figure out how to turn it back on. Unfortunately the county sheriff found out what I was doing and ran me (along with three other squatters) out of there...the place was demolished a month later.

Those malls are the perfect footprint for a community college. Stores turn into classrooms, you have wide aisles and a food court, a few sets of bathrooms scattered about, and one of the bigger stores could be turned into a gym rather easily or a library. All the basic infrastructure is already there, just to remodel it.
@@qwipperty Funny you should mention that, because the community college I went to had its satellite campus at the local mall! They took over a former theater when it moved to a separate building nearby. They turned the concession area into the front desk, a couple of auditoriums into lecture halls; even took advantage of the high ceilings to build a second floor. I didn't even realize it used to be a theater until someone mentioned it in passing.
This is incredible, thanks! My parents used to bring us to this mall in the late 70's, not to shop but just to "hang out" for the afternoon. I recall them going to a Mexican restaurant called "Chi-Chi's" and they would also stop at this pub like place for beers.

The first time I heard about this mall was because of you guys: the building WAS in great shape and certainly looked as though it'd be ready to undergo repairs for future reopening. You guys did an excellent job filming and showing your respect for the mall as you guys knew some things were going down with it. Unfortunately (since this video is at least 3 years old, maybe 4), the current shape it's in is miserable: there's by FAR at least 60x the graffiti as there is in this video and the vandalism makes you sick to the stomach (pretty much all the glass (store fronts, skylights, and windows) are all shattered, the restrooms had been destroyed, reports of murder there now (recent videos of explorers showed blood on the floor in the courtyard and police tape in the one backroom that once contained overstock), AT LEAST 6 fires have been started there since 2021 (latest one was in the former foodcourt back in August of 2022), the ceilings are beginning to cave in and due to black mold and sewage, the air is too toxic to breathe without any mask. The owners refuse to do anything with the place and have since racked up thousands in fines (you can watch short clips from Milwaukee News or vids on here under the topic). From what's known as of now, the city is planning on taking it back if the owners don't take action and the city will tear it down themselves because of it's pitiful condition. No one is allowed in the building and if caught, they'd be arrested instantly without questions. If you guys see videos of the mall today, they'll likely make you cry. You guys showed pure respect when you visited at the time the building was getting sealed off for protection and left with images and video but left only footsteps. Aside of the devastating news, I love your vids and enjoy how educational they are and the amount of respect you guys show for the places you visit.
The Chinese investment group was the owner of most of the mall properties for a total of 16 years and did absolutely nothing to save or preserve it. The entire area became very dangerous as a result. The city was finally able to take ownership at the start of 2024 and has plans to properly demolish it.

Yeah their going to regret that one day. A family member of mine died from cancer caused from asbestos. I doubt their is asbestos in this mall but I'm sure they have ran into some in the past. It was a god awful way to die. The cancer caused by asbestos is very aggressive.
Respirators are just awful, and are really bad for audio quality. I totally get why they waffle when it comes to putting them on.

@@tony--james Totally. The middle ground is dust masks. They will minimize exposure, but not make you miserable. There are many grades right up to respirator dust masks. (also that was probably not mold, but rather mildew, which is generally only dangerous if you have asthma.) At the end of the day they are going to be wearing whatever they are exposed to home. Urbexing is just really dangerous. Nobody should be doing it if they have ANY sort of autoimmune disorder.

I worked in Northridge for some time. First time there after it was completed was amazing. It really was a beautiful mall. It’s sad to see what’s happened to the mall and the surrounding area. Watching this video brought back some great memories.

It’s interesting seeing the shape of Northridge now. I grew up in Milwaukee, remember shopping there with my family, remember seeing Look Who’s Talking Too in that theatre... waiting in line for a ticket while my grandmother told us how much she hated Roseanne.
What a lot of people maybe don’t know or don’t talk about is all of the socioeconomic factors that went into the failure of Milwaukee’s north side, not just the mall. High end condos and apartment complexes were built next to hi-rise subsidized housing along 76th street combined with white flight, and the scandal when in 1992 Jesse Anderson, a white man, stabbed his wife at the Northridge TGI Friday’s and then said a black man did it... the already hyper segregated city became wary of the mall, and property values around it dropped nearly overnight.
Today, the North side is a shell of what it was, with still-low property values and high crime. The Chinese investment group that owns the mall has promised to redevelop it as an Asian goods market. In a dozen years they’ve done nothing, and earlier this year a maintenance worker was electrocuted and killed.
It’s amazing how Northridge is like a microcosm of Milwaukee, of what can happen when shifting politics, racial tensions, and a collapsing neighborhood combine. Thank you guys for shining the light on this poor ruin, and for making the trek to Milwaukee. You guys rock, and I’m so thankful you do what you do. Keep being the thoughtful, reflective, informed and respectful explorers you are!

I grew up in Milwaukee as well, and was really interested when this popped up. I remember going Christmas shopping there as a teenager. I agree with what you said, there were many reasons for this mall going belly up. I worked for penzeys spices in their call centre before I moved away, and I know that the owner tried to buy this place to expand production and warehouse space. He paid the back taxes and was going to have the town of Brown Deer transfer ownership to him, but the Chinese company refused to give it up, and they ended up fighting it in court and paying him back the back taxes he paid, so he had to walk away. They had a chance to revitalize the building and bring jobs to the area, and they lost it because the do nothing chinese owners refused.
Recall Southridge back in the day. Guess it is on its way down as well, but I think it is still open. Milwaukee is not what I remember. Very sad, to me.

Malls all over the country have gone downhill, lost popularity and so many of the stores have closed. Maybe maintaining such a large place was more than they had imagined. The amount people pay to rent the spaces in the mall is crazy. Especially considering that business is way down in most malls everywhere. The mall where I grew up opened it’s doors in the fall of 1982 I think. People were so excited about it. No more shopping in the weather. Everything under one roof. As with everywhere else that mall is fading. Anchor stores like Sears, Montgomery Ward, and just in the past few months, Macy’s have closed. A large shopping center was built starting with a Walmart nearby, away from downtown where the mall is, and now there’s Kohl’s, Target, Marshall’s, dozens of restaurants from McDonald’s to Red Lobster along with convenience stores, gas stations and more. I feel like that someday soon malls will be a thing of the past. Honestly I’m not that sad about it.

this was a heckuva blast from the past! i frequent northridge's sister mall, Southridge, and have since i was a child. southridge has been updated aesthetically, but the vast majority of the architecture is the same. what they removed was the charm. seeing northridge like this is taking me back to when southridge was pretty. thank you so much for visiting and documenting this building!

He wasnt a security guard.. Victor Diaz was hired to clean up, restore and secure the mall. He died electrocuted, because he went to close the door of the light control or whatnot box and got dumped with 4800 wolts or something.. :/

My parents visited this mall whilst on holiday from the uk, I have picture and video of them, my dad passed away in September........so strange to think he walked these floors with my mom, I suppose we all become ghosts in the end, ghosts of the past, moments lost in time, residual energy, floating about........quite sad 😢

Northridge mall will always be a part of my youth.
My girlfriend and her friends would drag me to the mall as a teen. It was a great place to hang out and meet friends, get food, watch a movie, play games, look at the fountain and the neon, and just spend hours wandering stores.
Now that mall is still open, but it's pretty dead.

Every property is owned by someone.If not owned by a bussines person , it will be owned by the city . But some buildings just fall into such a horrible state , because there is no money to rebuild,renovate or even demolish the place.
@SirWoofles abandoned means it's no longer used .Even though it's abandoned (no longer in use) , when a place is still owned by someone and you take anything away from there ,you are still stealing.
Lets use another example: somebody owns a house but doesn't use it, so it becomes abandoned, but it's still paid for so owned, and you go inside and take stuff away from that house. You are stealing .

I think it's because it reminds us of a better time when people were not quite as ruthless as they are now. Somehow it became cool to be lawless and violent. Think of that when you hear the phrase, "Thug Life".
There was so many malls that many were due to fail which is what happened however growing up in the 80s & 90s or even earlier you probably grew up with them & to see the place to be filled with people slowly have less & less people to the point they become abandoned it hurts. It hurts me & seeing what's happening to Regency Mall in Racine WI, Then what happened to the Original Outlet Mall of Kenosha WI it hurts no doubt.
Get use to it, soon malls, retail stores will be nothing but a memory.
@S K because of the scum that live in the area kept robbing the place. Then as an added bonus they started threatening people who went there to the point that people stopped going to Northridge. Soon after businesses started pulling out, the rest is history.

As a kid and in summertime, my friends and I were dropped off at the local mall at 8am in the morning and got picked up around 6pm -- we would spend the whole day at the mall: going to the movies, the arcade, roving around, eating at the food court. Sad to see a mall abandoned this way.
I am 51 and growing up malls were a huge things in the 80's with my buds and my mom taking me there to shop with her as a kid. I really get clingy to these old malls... it breaks my heart to see demise of these places. What a lost opportunity these empty malls are I believe. nikko kolassa it actually puzzles me why they keep building malls, my cousin lives in newham in London and ever since they built that Westfield, it’s been hell for him. Thanks to the mall, Newham is the poorest area in the country and the mall that may look all nice has put the council in massive debt lol, it was built to do the exact opposite I don’t kno what they were thinking or what they did wrong

this is so crazy to see. ive lived in wisconsin my whole life, been to southridge so many times but was too young to ever see northridge. i love that the memory of this place, even with deteriorating conditions, is preserved in this video.
love the outdated theme of the mall too haha. it's super cool to see it in comparison to the more modernized style of southridge now.

Thanks for the trip down memory lane. We used to go there in the 80's and early 90's. It was a magical place. Quarter arcades, Babbages, KB toystore. Great times as a teen too. Sorry it is in such a condition now. Sad.

When I was a kid and in Campfire, we had a lock-in at a local mall. Although the stores were closed of the Snack Shack and Food Court remained open. We had full run of the place! It was a blast!

I was about 8 years old when the Northridge Mall was built and hung out there every weekend playing pong in the Sears store. The kids would line up to get their shot at one of the first amazing video games that we could play. In a sporting goods department right next to the catalog center in layaway pickup. And then when done at Sears would go upstairs in the mall to Farrell's ice cream parlor..

If you guys are looking for a VERY newly abandoned mall to explore there is a mall right near where I live called the Phillipsburg Mall in New Jersey. It was just closed down in March of this year (so last month) and from what I’ve heard the public still has full access to the building!! I was planning on exploring it myself with a few friends and I hoped you guys would go there one day too. I would love to see a video about it sometime in the future. Keep adventuring!
