    I have a Hotrod Deluxe 1 that has been in my family since 1991 and I’ve been gigging with it since 2012, an absolute workhorse of an amp and sounds amazing. The one gotcha is there are some parts in it which will eventually burn up and possibly damage the circuit board if not replaced in time. I suggest taking it to a tech to have them replace some resistors with higher spec ones if you plan on using the amp for more than 5 years. Doesn’t need to be done immediately but will cost much more to repair if it goes too long

      Unfortunatly mines going to a tech tomorrow, caps resisters all heat marked on the board. probably cost a fortune 😓

      Actually it didnt cost that much, £70 and service included, changed the big caps and one resistor, spot on. I have also changed the V1 to a 12AT7 and it sounds great, SRV tone can be achieved 👍

    I replaced the 12AX7 valve in V1 with 12AY7 and the result was outstanding.

      Enjoy! Yeah, It has been a while since I used the amp but I remember doing that as well. It makes it a lot tamer and fun.

      I’m undecided to get the blues jr or the deluxe because I play at home and was worried about the volume being to loud. I guess I can get the deluxe and use a JHS black box pedal to attenuate

      Unfortunately, I don't remember. This was a while back. I think the most I used was a Keeley Caravan for some reverb. Not sure if I'm using a drive pedal. Sorry.

  • @PhotoTrekr
    @PhotoTrekr 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    FWIW, I'm thinking about selling my Hot Rod Deluxe. I love the amp, but it's WAY too loud for home use. Even with the attenuator I ordered for it, I still have to turn the amp volume knob and the knob on the attenuator almost all the way down. So, I wouldn't recommend this amp for home use.

    • @DeadmanDance
      @DeadmanDance 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You could also put a volume pot on the fx loop, and try to tame it a bit. I got a Deville and can use it at my apartment just fine.

    • @ashishashen
      @ashishashen  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Definitely Princeton! But if you plan to play live in a loud setting then Hot Rod. Princeton would be fine for Jazz/Blues trio setting.

      I'm thinking of trading in my blues jr 4 to get one as well and I live in apartment. I still get decent volume playing in the apartment so ill probably keep the same eq settings on the hotrod deluxe I guess with master on 5 and volume at 2

    • @bensapsford5367
      @bensapsford5367 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Probably at around 5/6, depending on the guitar. You can get a ‘master volume module’ to plug into the effects loop which will allow you to crank the clean at a lower volume though

    • @neonbreon
